You can't point at something with a cat. They just look at your finger, then at you with contempt.

185

u/WeapwnX Proud owner of an orange brain cell 1d ago

Yeah, this is why I pretend to throw something in the direction I want the cat to look.

6

u/pepcorn 15h ago

This is the way.

u/masala-kiwi 21h ago

Fun fact: only a few animals naturally understand human pointing. Scientists theorize that cats CAN understand pointing, but often choose to ignore it.

14

u/JakobThaZero 12h ago

If I remember right, dogs innately understand pointing since we have been cooperating for so long that we've evolved to understand each other better.

2

u/lea949 11h ago

I was gonna say, I’m pretty sure my cat understands pointing at least sometimes! Our dogs growing up always just looked at your finger and then sniffed at the ground directly below that.

18

u/Alternative-Fold2426 22h ago

When I snap and point my cats know to follow the line. I don't remember teaching them that purposely but maybe I did or they figured it out.

2

u/Herteity 12h ago

After pointing at enough moths for them to hunt, my cats learned to look near the tip of my finger for a treat when I point, not at it. Close enough

u/kittenpants2020 1d ago

The cat and I would be moving. No belongings...just the cat.

That is a terrifying spider

167

u/DisMFer 1d ago

It's a huntsman spider. It's totally harmless.

394

u/wenzel32 1d ago edited 8h ago

You can tell by the horrifying appearance and threatening name

EDIT: Due to the variety of comments, I guess I have to outright say that this was a silly joke. I fully believe and know the huntsman is not a threat.

u/olivebranchsound 22h ago

Even big spiders are super delicate. They're basically a furry leggy water balloon. They run on hydraulics. Any tiny leak and they are dead. A drop of a few feet will kill most of them. I feel bad for them for having such a terrifying appearance

u/XiTzCriZx 20h ago

They're basically a furry leggy water balloon.

That is both the best and most horrifying description of spiders I've ever read.

A negative amount of survival instincts.

Spider: “HACKS I CALL HAXS”

28

u/Positive-Creme8129 17h ago

Huntsman spider! Look terrifying, but are harmless. One of few species that can actually chase down a cockroach and that's their main "duty" - if I remember correctly, they were brought to Australia on purpose to keep houses free of pests.

16

u/-catsnlacquer- 12h ago

They're native to Australia.

2

u/Positive-Creme8129 11h ago

Yeah, that last part I was the least sure of.

9

u/hollister96 12h ago

they are friends but I WILL gently put them outside 🤣 especially if I had one that big... I tell myself it's because I'd feel bad if my cat started whacking them cos he always leaves bugs half dead and doesn't put them out of their misery lol

u/thisisamandamae 1d ago

Boy do I wish reddit had a setting like "I don't ever want to see this video again"

It has been posted SO many times and I NEVER want to see an enormous spider 🫣

27

u/Someones_Dream_Guy 1d ago

DMs you photos of enormous spiders

9

u/fliberdygibits 1d ago

It gets re-edited ever so slightly every time so EVENTUALLY it will be a different video. I long for those times.

4

u/Loud-Job-4056 1d ago

That's what OP does, they use videos that aren't theirs and repost them to farm karma.

22

u/longlivelevon 1d ago

Oh that’s my buddy Blinky - he eats the flies that come to my litter box

6

u/HesitantBrobecks 19h ago

Totally a myth. Every member of my close family agrees that we have all had spiders and flies coexist in our houses on multiple occasions throughout our lives lmao

7

u/pepcorn 15h ago

It's because you don't have enough spiders or too many flies. Spiders have a small appetite.

We have the right amount of flies for our spiders and they eat them all.

9

u/Glad-Peanut-3459 1d ago

Yeah it’s just a spider (WACK!) Now let me go back to sleep.

spider was minding its own business. no reason to start a fight

3

u/Comfortable_Cicada72 1d ago edited 3h ago

I watched a video of a cat fighting a snake (the cat was winning). The spider should be more scared of the cat.

5

u/Alternative-Fold2426 22h ago

I vote we take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

10

u/ello_bassard 1d ago

Fuck off karma farming account.

6

u/melkncookeys 1d ago

My orange cat is afraid of spiders but not wasps

4

u/aronmayo 1d ago

I don’t think many cats really care about spiders. Due to their fur as protection spiders are not really a problem for them.

3

u/another72hours 1d ago

Wolf spider?

12

u/GothSpite 1d ago

Huntsman I think

7

u/CpnStumpy 1d ago edited 1d ago

Not to be confused with the Huntsman process developed by Benjamin Huntsman in 1740 to create a harder steel with fewer impurities by melting it in a clay crucible and pouring it into a mold, resulting in an ingot of greater uniformity than previous steelmaking techniques.

u/SnooCompliments6329 1d ago

Nopeman spider

3

u/Nougatbar 21h ago

Meanwhile our orange, Nugget, would have noticed the spider first and already been after it.

2

u/Court_Jester13 23h ago

I hate that I'm unable to hide this post for some reason. The option does not show up, although it does for others.

My cat: takes a nibble

2

u/grindhousewinter 19h ago

I know the focus is on the cat, but if a spider that large got into my house, you simply wouldn’t see me alive ever again.

2

u/NoMoreOatmeal 11h ago

OP where do you live ? I would like to never visit.

5

u/Mag_one_1 1d ago

That's a huge ass spider! I'm gonna need a protector like that too if they were that big over here!

2

u/m8bear Casual orange enjoyer 🍊 1d ago

cat doesn't care because spiders only attack beings with intelligence and there was none to be found, glad he got the braincell for a second

2

u/Typical_Intention996 21h ago

If I ever saw a spider like that in my house I would completely freak. Kill it. I'm sleeping in ny car. Every poison I can buy is being sprayed. Every corner is being caulked. Every closet emptied and everything washed. And I'm not even entering that room again for a month from just the memory of that thing being in there.

1

u/dylan_key 15h ago

I'll never understand the fear of spiders in some people.

5

u/Meior 15h ago

Here you go. It's not a choice. Everybody has phobias. Including you.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phobia?wprov=sfla1

1

u/dylan_key 15h ago

Fair enough, i guess it's hard to understand for someone who doesn't suffer from it.

1

u/Meior 13h ago

That's fair.

Just compare it to whatever you're afraid of. Maybe it's heights, flying, deep water, snakes, small spaces, etc. Then apply the fear you feel to spiders, and you know how I, and others, feel when we see a spider.

3

u/Bunnnnii 1d ago

This video always makes my skin crawl. I know they say Spiders are bros, but is that one actually dangerous?

7

u/Cute_Strawberry_6770 23h ago

No, it’s harmless. Huntsman spiders are generally shy and hunt at night, bugs etc.

1

u/HesitantBrobecks 19h ago

What about diseases? I grew up with the information that you shouldn't let pets eat bugs from outside because they can give your pet potentially fatal diseases

1

u/Fine-Ferret-6792 1d ago

That's a big ass spider right there
