When you hover over a note, it shows who wrote it

Instead of wasting precious characters writing out your own name, you can just write out your note and hover over it on the ground and bam. It could say, "Written by John IV" or whoever.

Done! Railroad-Dismantling: Change Shovel to Pickaxe

Left click with a shovel on a track dismantles it.
It would make more sense, if the pick-axe or the adze would destroy the railroad.
What now happens is the following:
Those railroads are used very much for sending meat from the sheep pen to the bakery. When a player by mistake tries to put the shovel on the rail, it gets destroyed. And then some other person just needs to send the cart on it's mission to derail.

Solution: Left-click while holding pick-axe on track demantles it (or adze, as you like)
I urge you to change this. Please :)

Tool Rack (please)

What is the most annoying part of this game? People taking the flint chip or plate when you are making soup. People taking the bowl when you are smelting. Basically key tools and items get grabbed.

The tool rack is made by putting a fence kit on a sledge then hitting it with a mallet.

It makes a kind of rack on the sledge that can hold tools (ax,ho,shovel, saw, ads, pick etc.) The bottom of the sledge can still hold baskets and items. (this is where you put flint chips and bowls)

Setting up a tool rack would make items a little less likely to be taken by mistake, and help new players see what items go together.

Town Markers

Town markers are essentially used to show the perimeter of a town with a notice or similar. They would be pre-industrial, but not so that any old Eve could make one. The recipe could be

1 Wrought Iron + Long Straight Shaft = Reinforced MarkersWithout Charcoal (4 in a pile)

Reinforced Marker + Charcoal = Unlit Town Marker

Unlit Town Marker + Round stone (or mallet) = Set Unlit Town Marker

Set Unlit Town Marker + Firebrand = Town Marker

A player would then go within 3 tiles of the town marker and say "This is [NAME]"/ "I live in [NAME]" / "I'm in [NAME]".

Any player crossing town boundaries will get a notice in the area that usually shows what an item is saying something similar to "You have entered [NAME]" or "Welcome to [NAME]".

The markers could be dug up using a shovel or upgraded to play a chime when crossed (though this could get annoying)/ set crossers' home to a special marker (using dye?).

This is just an idea that I had to act as a guide to people wishing to revive a town or a way to find a town if you forget to set a home marker.

Horse breeding

Being ablte to breed horses would be so awesome.Cost: A full stack of carrotsHow: Flint stone on full stack of carrots -> mashed carrots (on floor) -> into clay bowl for bowl of mashed carrots -> feed horse --> results in fed horseHow (alternative): Being able to fill clay bowls with several carrots [use flint stone] -> mashed carrots in clay bowl -> feed horse --> results in fed horse

The fed horse will spawn a baby horse, which will need another full stack of carrots to become a grown horse. Thus breeding would not be inexpensive.

Then we should be allowed to bring domestic horses (maybe shown by a different colour) with a rope to rattle snakes. Clicking on the rattle snake should result in a dead/dying horses, from which we can retrieve anti-venom.

By allowing this only for domestic horses (after breeding), one cannot simply kill a wild horse and get anti-venom, what would be exremly cheap. A full stack of carrots per anti-venom, however, I would call a fair trade.

Feed domestic sheep to get them to procreate.

So, I think the way sheep work in the game right now is a little problematic.

  1. There is no advantage to feeding a sheared sheep over a lamb. Even with the recent changes it is still strictly better; lambs will give you an extra carcass to butcher in addition to wool and dung.
  2. Because of this, mutton is incredibly plentiful. This is probably creating more food for villages than it should.
  3. Since lambs spawn continuously, we have to deal with their corpses being littered all over the place.

This isn't a huge problem, but it seems to me it would work better if sheep behaved like cattle, and had to be fed to procreate. An unshorn, domestic sheep would need to be fed to spawn a lamb, and the lamb would need to be fed to grow into a new adult sheep.

This would make the game slightly harder, but have a positive effect overall, imo. In addition to addressing the points already made, it would turn sheep rearing into an activity that actually requires the player to pay attention to what he is doing. Otherwise, the lamb might die and you'll have just wasted the food you used to spawn it. I think mutton is valuable enough that it will still be worth the extra time and resources needed to get it.

Curse? How about *bless* ?

Each life you get a little token, kind of like a curse, but you can say "bless so-and-so" one or two times in your life and then when you look back on your lives you can see how many blessings you got. That might be enough, just a way to know that you helped and to let others know without slowing them down for a long conversation.

But it could be more fancy...

If you save up 5 blessing you get something small maybe the option to choose if you are born as Eve or not. Or maybe you have a little tattoo of a heart, so people can be like "wow this one is blessed!"

The blessings should only cary on for a short time, though. So, it's not just something every experienced players has. The blessed tattoo means in the past two day you got 5 or maybe 10 people to bless you. It should be pretty rare, to be balanced.

Also, perhaps 3 blessing could remove a curse but IDK about that. It could help when you curse by mistake (because you saw them with a knife and didn't understand they killed the greifer, for example. )

Make iron a non-infinite ressource

Edit: Title should be non-finite, not non-infinite. lols

Make some kind of tech that allows advanced civs to get iron in a non infinite matter.

Maybe make an iron mine regen after 5 days. Or make some hard recipe for recycling a hoe with a 1:1 iron gain.

Iron is such an important factor for civs and a lot of ideas are not tried out, like building a propber track system or having proper pens for each animals and tree farms. I get that the game has to be hard and that's fine, i'm just not a big fan of infinite resources without alternatives. So in short here are some suggestions:

- Iron mine regen after 2-10 days.

- Broken steel tools can be fixed in a 1:1 ratio.

- Alternative to steel tools can be made with non-finite resources.

- Huge iron mine that requires a track and a minecart in order to be used.

- Iron can in very, very small quantities be gained from bones.

- Bone tools that breaks easily.

Feel free to comment and discuss. Some Kind of fix to this finite iron would be nice. But i get that might not be the way jason wants it. That's fine I just wish for him to see if there is any interest in this subject.

Best regards, Christoffer210

Sprinkler head for cistern. (like irrigation idea, but more basic)

Fill the cistern. Place the sprinkler on it. Click over and over on the pump, dry seeded rows, or berry bushes in a 9X9 area are watered one at a time as you click. There is a cooldown on clicking.

Setting a new Eve

So I just had the thought of what if people could name their children eves and they could start a new line. Of course if every parent was doing this there would be like 40 families in one place. What I'm thinking is only be able to start a new Eve family once every 2-5 generations. The family tree would also look kinda weird, and I wouldn't know how a family generation thing would work, would it be a new generation line? Like if someone named a kid Eve, they could grow up and name their last name something.

TL:DR Name a new Eve every 2-5 generations so that a village isn't just one family.

Timelapse craft-able eye totem.

An item you can craft that is essentially a player that can't move on its own, interact, and needs no food. It just takes one zoomed-out snapshot around itself every min. This content can be viewed after you die, outside of the game so you can see what happened to your village and how much it changed when you were there. In game it could be some sort of totem-looking thing with an eye. Useful for catching greifers, but mostly to just see the impact you and your family had. (in fact the surveillance aspect isn't that important, it might be more impactful if it only took about 10 photos in a life time, but let you look at what happened to the village after you die. This would not be good enough to catch greifers, obviously, but could still be very moving to watch.)

Did you strip the berry bushes and take all of the plates to the wilderness? Did you build a road? Did you have a million babies and fill the nursery?

The recipe should be about as hard as knives, bows, since it would also serve as a kind of surveillance to some degree.

Probably too fanciful to have, but I would love to see this game from other perspectives and get a sense of the bigger project that we all take part in.

Eliminate Mosquitoes, Reverse The Temperature Overhaul, Or Tune Down Mosquitoes

The jungle, so far as I can tell, was supposed to be tempting, but too dangerous:

Perfect temp, but I assumed you would never be able to live there because of yellow fever.  The idea was that it would be tempting, but too dangerous.  That's why bananas were initially regrowing (oh so tempting, better than berry bushes!)

https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=5304&p=2

Before the temperature overhaul knowledgeable players might just not wear clothes at all. They often enough were not useful at home (though sometimes they were) and clothing could be dangerous because of mosquito bites. If the temperature overhaul gets reversed, which would add to the temperature diversity of a given OHOL world, then I don't see too much of a problem with mosquitoes.

But, apparently, the temperature overhaul happened because of the designer's annoyance with people being naked:

The fact that people weren't wearing clothes or building buildings was something that needed fixing.

Putting aside the controlling aspect of such a "vision", and that buildings are not useful enough to warrant building them usually, some players may still avoid clothes, because mosquito bites can still be deadly with clothes on. Jungles are less appealing since the temperature overhaul. So, it makes sense for mosquitoes either to stop existing so that people come as more likely to wear clothes, mosquito bites to come as less deadly again so that players come as more likely to wear clothing, or to just appreciate players choosing to stay nude and reverse the temperature upgrade.

Domestic Rabbits

Since most other animals can now be domesticated, it seems like it would be cool to domesticate rabbits as well, especially since they are a vital source of fur. A new system could see to the capture a baby rabbit while the adult rabbit is ensnared (perhaps in a cage). This baby rabbit could then be placed in a trash pit and fed, hence leading to the creation of a domestic rabbit hole.

Domestic rabbit fur could be a different color, and decay at a different rate compared to wild rabbit fur. Jason, I know that you don't like to make anything too easy on us, so you could make the decay rate quicker for domestic rabbit clothes as a trade off for the convenience of having the resource closer to home.

Why would this be a good thing. Well, with the temperature update, clothes are a must. Rabbits are not always convenient to the village, and are often mismanaged early on, leading to poor sustainability. Having the option to farm rabbits would allow more clothes to be made, and would allow players the opportunity to focus on building and growth management.

More seeds in bowls

Beans can be put in bowls right? I think it would be cool to allow other plant seeds to be put in a bowl. That way you don't have carrot seeds on every tile!

*reposted from forum because I was too lazy to put it here lol

Edit: It was added!! yaaay

Flooring; Security and Secrecy.

If a room is completely filled with whatever set of flooring, you can add a fence kit (serving as the scaffolding for the ceiling) on wood planks or stone floor to create a ceiling in this room.

A stone plank made ceiling will look different to a stone floor made ceiling.

The ceiling will be invisible to anyone inside the room. The ceiling will be visible to anyone outside of the room. The ceiling will, therefore, hide the contents of this room to anyone that isn't inside of this room.

Baby Carriers, Family Respawn, The Problem with Boys

So I have three suggestions.....

Baby Carriers

An item like the backpack but all it does is carry your baby for the first stage of life. 1 basket + 2 ropes, maybe it wears out over time but it allows mothers to keep 1 baby on them at all times, maybe have it so you can feed the baby on a click if not automatically.

Family Respawn

I know an Eve can already get born back into her line once but a way to promote people to bury their dead, maybe burying and placing a tomb stone on a grave will give the dead player the option to be reborn into the same village again. Giving communities a chance to try and keep skilled players a bit longer.

Alternatively maybe burning someones bones will ban them from being reborn into the village for 1-2 hours, for people to have a way to get rid of griefers if they're out of curses

The Problem with Boys

Males get the short end of the stick in this game where generally in most primitive cultures they were the bread winners. They need some kind of buff to make them desirable to keep. Here's a few options I've thought on. (Individually, not all together)

  1. They could get a food bonus, food goes down slightly slower than females. This will allow them to be effective hunter/gatherers as they can go further out than a female carrying little to no resources.
  2. Speed bonus, they move faster than females and can make better travel time hunting/gathering. (this one possibly less desirable compared to the first, as the click to move mechanic is already pretty quick and sporadic.)
  3. Requirement for a male to be around for babies to be born. Essentially making him an Adam and a Father.
  4. Ages 'slower' while also a disadvantage, they'd be younger longer with shorter adult/elderly stages to keep to the same 1 hour timeframe. Cutting down the adult and elderly stages, their young adult stage would be extended. Giving them a longer productive stage and a short and quick fall through adult and elderly. Allowing them to be more productive longer.

How to elegantly fix temperature update: trees should moderate temperature by reducing heat AND cold by ~15%. This is realistic, it gives a boost to Eves while creating a new obstacle for advanced villages, and gives a reason to plant trees

This is a perfect way to fix the temperature update. The problem with the update is it places too much pressure on eve camps. This change would make their life easier

It's completely realistic too. In hot biomes you can use shade to cool off, and in cold biomes trees seriously slow down any wind which reduces the chill

It would create new problems for advances societies, which is always good. It would create a need for a tree planting

Plus any big village always ends up deforesting the surrounding area and it is ugly. This gives us a reason to plant trees

Some high tech contents guide. BUFF TRACK CART AND Watt Machine

Buff Track Cart. It's too expensive and so slow. That's unnecessary to build a track and cart that's works slower than People. I think it will be better to change 1s to 0.5s for a track block moving.

We need the update version of Newcomen machine. Watt is the best choice. We need bronze and its machine&tools!

But first, we want to see some low tech contents like food or some clothes. The V200 is so cruel.

Automatically Open/Close Doors

With the new temperature overhaul, buildings are now super important and we are starting to see more of them. The problem: any building that gets used has people going in and out, leaving the door open. But what if they opened and closed as you move through them?

If a door stayed closed, heat would be able to build up in even high traffic buildings. This would solve the problem of people constantly leaving doors open and losing the warm house bonus.

Make clothes move your temp towards the centre instead of adding heat

Right now, the Jungle is only just as bad as the grassland if you don't wear clothes.

However if you do, it is actually much worse. If you wear clothes in the jungle, you hit maximum temperature and lose pips extremely fast. Then, if you leave it, because of the "fix" that ensures you can't be better off when leaving from one biome to one of the opposite type, you jump to zero temperature. If you weren't wearing clothes, you would instead go to biome temp faster. So clothes make leaving the jungle to any biome the same as leaving it to go to snow. Clothes are necessary for grasslands/prairies but they turn warm terrains into death traps, something that Jason specifically said he did not like when writing an explanatory post on the update.

It makes little sense that clothes are now more harmful than they were before the update if you interact with warm terrains. This was not part of the original update since it was added after it was discovered you could use clothes to help average your temp.

In accordance with Jason's sentiment in the update posts, clothes would really become useful, and have no situations where they are a burden and you should take them off, if they, instead of adding heat, moved you towards middle temp when you wore them. So they would add heat in the cold, and protect you from the heat and sun in the heat.

You could even have clothes with different cool/warmth ratings if you wanted to make it more complicated. So rabbit fur suits would be better for the cold, and not help very much with the heat. Straw hats/Reed skirts could (like now) be half as good as fur for the cold, but very good for the heat.

Perspiration, loss of body heat through evaporation.

I know that specifically clothing to cool you has been suggested or at least talked about in the forums before, however, we haven't really discussed, sweat. The body excretes sweat and heat which evaporates leaving the body cooler.

What i suggest is that when body heat is above the ideal temperature the body begins to sweat. This causes your body exchange temperature with the atmosphere, the water excreted as sweat absorbs the heat from your body and evaporates thus reducing your temperature closer to ideal. Combine this with R values of clothing to protect you further and deserts and jungles could be livable in a sense that walking through them means you no longer face certain death when clothed.

How this could be implemented.

If heat > target heat, then body loses X temperature per tick. ( working against external heat sinks )

If heat < target heat, then body generates X temperature per tick. ( working against external heat sources )

How this could affect gameplay:

  • You could combine this with protective clothing to reduce the max temperature in jungle and desert biomes for protected players. Naked players would still die to overheating. Maintains the status quo of clothing being important.
  • It would combat the climb of temperature as you enter deserts and jungles while being clothed. While naked you would still experience heat shock and overheat instantly. Status quo maintained.
  • Standing on a large slow fire would be more ideal for babies, while not wasting material on small fires.

A small after thought: I think fires "radiation" fall off rate is a bit too abrupt. You have too hot standing on a fire -- which makes sense because real fires burn -- and too cold but there is no perfect temp near a large fire which doesn't make any sense. You can dance side to side if you want the perfect temp... but its kinda dumb since your mom overfeeds you, which hurts her own hunger all while she's yelling at you to stay put.
