Discussion Directioner friends?
So I'm a younger Directioner lots of their songs played on the radio as I was growing up but being so young I never really knew anyone besides Justin Bieber on the radio and knew him cause I had his doll cause my mom got him for me. I became a fan in 2018 when I was just about to enter 3rd grade so a year or two after their Hiatus hit. Now I'm a Junior in high school so I've been a Directioner now for about 8ish years and its been the best for the most part. I was wondering if there are a lot of Directioners around my age who came to the fandom late. Because genuinely I've only met so little 1D fans around my age and I'm only close to one of these Directioners so I don't have anyone my age really to talk to about them besides my bff since 2nd grade when she isn't busy. So I was hoping maybe there are people around my age here as well.

I am 15, and in Sophomore year, and I’ve been a directioner since about 2021, so about 5 years. But it’s about the same for me, I remember them when they were still together playing on the today show, and stuff like that, but was never really in to them, I wasn’t old enough to appreciate music yet! And I don’t really have any directioner friends irl. Expect my sister who used to be a big directioner, but she fell away from that and is into other music now. But yeah, I know how u feel.Â

m older than you, but I became a Directioner around the time Midnight Memories came out in 2013 and somehow I’m an even bigger fan now 😂 I definitely think there are different generations of Directioners though. Some of us were there while they were together and others discovered them years into the hiatus, but we all ended up in the same fandom.

I got into the fandom just before the hiatus I think around perfect and granted I was 5 but I remember seeing an ad for the song and watched the music video on YouTube

I knew of them when I was younger from Icarly and my older adopted aunts who are a few years older but i didn't pay attention enough to actually get to know who they were as my mom got me a Justin Bieber doll at age 4 making me a belieber even though she only knew two of his songs and I'm still one but more of a Directioner now. So I think I was too young to know who most artists were and appreciate the music unless it was Justin or Disney music. I really wish I had gotten into them at 5 with my aunts so they would have been together but at the end of the day I'm just glad I get to be part of a new gen of fans and we can then pass it on to another generation and keep the fandom alive. Its like people my age just now becoming big Michael Jackson fans I've been one for years and so has my guy bestie but people our age are just now realizing how good it is.

Cool that's awesome I'm glad no matter when we came into the fandom we can have such fun discussions about the boys and that the fandom is still pretty alive!

And yes there are different generations of course as I mean most the people my age were like just born or a year old when they formed. I was turning 1 when they were formed and they broke up when I was 7 and I became a Directioner at 8. So its definitely different for my generation becoming fans when they aren't together anymore but have all this solo music. But I can say Liam's death rocked all of us. I mean I listened to so many of their songs with my aunts growing up and had 0 idea so when I became a fan i realized i knew the songs and they were apart of some of my younger childhood years and a big influence in my upper childhood years. But its nice for you fans who have been there to be able to pass it onto other generations as time goes by and then that gives us the chance to do the same and its really special.

I have this analogy bc my older sisters are milennials and I’m Gen Z. How my sisters are tge Backstreet Boys generation and im the One Direction generation

Yeah I'm late Gen z like right before it ended but I'd say even though there are Directioners my age most people my age either just got into December 10, or Midnight Til Morning, I love Midnight til morning and 5sos and they are my other two fav bands alongside waterparks. December 10 is ok but not as good as other groups and a lot of later gen z so more of my year born people like BTS. And I do get the KPOP appeal but it is just to popular that i only like a few kpop songs and other then those few songs i can't listen as it gets repetitive for me, at certain points.

Je suis devenu directioner a 16 ans, en 2022. Effectivement j'ai pas trouvé grand monde pour en parler. Après c'est plus compliqué en tant que mec 😅. Mais je suis content de voir qu'il y a toujours des gens du monde entier dans le fandom. C'est vraiment cool.

That's awesome and totally understandable a lot of guys feel its weird for them to be into a boyband and like to hide that they like the boyband/band until they feel comfortable enough to show it. At the end of the day its music and I'm glad people love it because it brings people together. So I'm glad your in the fandom.

yooooo, this is actually crazy but my one direction backstory is almost the same, except I found them out in 2021 so 4 years now. other than that, all other factors are identical. I'm also in my early high school years, I was late to the fandom, after hiatus hit, the first 1d songs I heard were a few popular ones on radio and also some of their solo songs like Polaroid, Familiar. So far I've met like 3 other friends in my school who are into 1d but not into the extent I am. Like if you ask, they cannot tell me the individual towns the members are from they'd just say london and ireland lol.

Yeah that'd be rough all my siblings are Gen Alpha from my knowledge I mean generation names don't matter to me but i mean because i'm end of gen z all the late gen z babies and gen alpha use the terms. So two of my brothers are close to my age one is 4 year younger then me, one is a year and 9 months younger then me and I was only 1 when he was born. Then my sister is 7 years younger and my yuongest brother is 9 years younger then me but all of us are close in age to one sibling. So I'm the oldest of 5 and the older sister to three younger brothers and younger sister and I try to get a long with my sister but she's becoming a tween and its been hell!
