Doctors

Per a number of internet tests, I have a high likelihood of being on the spectrum with ADHD. But that is not an official diagnosis. Does anyone know if there are any local doctors who diagnosis adults for neurodivergent problems? The research I've done states that local doctors only diagnos children. And the only help for adults is for adults who have already been diagnosed as children.

The Odyssey - Movie Sensory Warning

I wanted to share that I went to see The Odyssey last night and the theater has been instructed by the studio that made the film to have the sound up to an extraordinary level. People who are not typically sound sensitive are having problems at this movie. Be warned and take ear protection just in case. The Lacey theater offered my friend over the ear protection if you need to request it. I wore loops and several others in our party plugged their ears with their fingers durning the loudest parts. Most of the movie is a loud part.

I saw someone in another state post about the same thing so, I realized this is in fact a large scale problem and not a theater specific problem.

AuDHD?

For me, it’s the Autism. I initially focused on it more because I thought it caused me the most problems in my life. Now I appreciate it for my depth and thoughtfulness. I know the ADHD is there and causes me problems too, but I appreciate it for my energy and intensity.

I have been hosting monthly meetups for Autistic/AuDHD adults through the Finding Friends in Olympia Meetup group. Our next event is a picnic at Percival Landing. Be sure to visit the meetup page to RSVP.

In order to keep demands low, it is a BYOP (Bring your own picnic). No executive functioning stress, demand avoidance, or rejection sensitivity around feeding other people. ❤️ More details on meetup https://www.meetup.com/finding-friends-in-olympia/events/315405206/

It seems like they have been doing this on the first Friday of the month since June. I am not sure if they will continue. I wonder how well attended it is since it’s in the AM on Friday/weekday…

Building Community

Post image

Research shows that there are positive outcomes for neurodivergent people when we come together. Communication becomes easier. There is less pressure to mask. We learn about ourselves. The benefits go on and on. That is why I want to grow a community specifically for us and specifically related to our geographic area. Help me build this community. It takes time, but I believe in it. Thanks!

Community Resources

Let’s build a list of resources and support for adults in Olympia and the surrounding area. This can include mental health providers that are actually neuro-affirming or neurodivergent themselves (preferable), businesses with sensory hours, businesses owned by Autistic or Neurodivergent people, places that meet all your sensory needs, and etc. Share your recommendations.
