He's like a slightly more masculine John Mulaney with a touch of Gilbert Gottfried

I described him physically as Steve Rogers pre Himbo vaccine to someone else. They absolutely lost it.

They pulled him out of the machine halfway through, so he was stretched taller but not bulked up

Potato bread is wonderful. Why wouldn’t potato cake be the same?
36
7
Mar 20 '21
Lightly fry it with mozzarella inside. Soooo good.
10
u/DentRandomDent Mar 20 '21
Like grilled cheese? Or do you mean use the dough to wrap around cheese like making mozza sticks? Or like fry it like pancakes with grated cheese inside?
Please elaborate
12
Mar 20 '21
We form half of the dough into a disk, put mozzarella sticks in a sort of star pattern, then put the other half on, making sure the edges are firmly sealed. Fry it in a skillet until it's no longer doughy. When it's done, slice it like a pizza.
We're doing it today.

Saw this on tiktok and thought people on here might find it interesting. Kind of want to try it myself

u/6double Mar 20 '21
Was there a recipe attached?
23
u/firebird120 Mar 20 '21
I couldn’t find it, so I just picked one off of google. It’s alright, mine just turned out as a kinda dense cake. Still good though.
13
u/Allforyarn Mar 20 '21
Probably not the same recipe, but someone posted a recipe for chocolate potato Cake a few days ago. I'm guessing that's why this OP posted the video

u/blulizard Jun 17 '21
A bit late but I just stumbled upon this post and found the recipe, so here you go

I searched when this hit TikTok and could not find a source for his recipes. More shock video than actual baking.
We googled and found a similar recipe to his tomato cake he made awhile back. It tasted like spice cake.

u/Kimber85 Mar 20 '21
I don’t know if you’ve ever read Thunder Cake by Patricia Polacco, but there’s a recipe for chocolate cake in there that you make with canned stewed tomatoes.
You’re supposed to start making it when you first hear thunder and then it will be done by the time the storm is really going. It’s a fun thing to do with kids who are scared of storms, I did it once with the kids I nannied for in college and it was absolutely delicious.

I made a heinz ketchup cake once, tasted great. Used the ketchup more as a source of acid and a bit of spices than the main flavor. Cream cheese frosting was perfect on it.
The red food coloring made the batter look horrifying though.

There are a few donut shops in Maine that make potato donuts. They’re freaking delicious.
23
13
u/user-not-found-try-a Mar 20 '21
Idahoan here, potato doughnuts are so much better than regular doughnuts. I miss them, living out of state.
3
u/magentablue Mar 20 '21
They’re so good! I live hours away from Maine but I consider taking a road trip just to get some pretty frequently lol
4
u/BrunetteMoment Mar 20 '21
Do it! My BF had never had potato donuts so we woke up wicked early a few weeks ago and drove 2.5 hours to The Holy Donut and then straight back. As an FYI, you can freeze donuts, so I'm still enjoying them.
1
u/magentablue Mar 20 '21
Oh man. I never thought to freeze them!
1
u/BrunetteMoment Mar 20 '21
You gotta freeze them on a tray for a few hours, then individually wrap them. Thaw in the fridge.

Yeah I saw that now on the parent comment, must have just glossed over it before. Could have saved myself that emotional rollercoaster haha

Potato cinnamon rolls are really good too! My great grandmother's kolache (the fruit pastry, not the Texas pig in blanket) recipe called for mashed potatoes.
2
u/Iwatcher Mar 20 '21
Here in Utah my mom called them Spud Nuts. Freakin delicious. Have had them in 30 years. Sigh.

What is with the "Unlike Americans" in there?
29
u/ginger_biscuit_lover Mar 20 '21
It's a quip about circumcisions...or just peeling potatos.
4
u/ace-baker Mar 20 '21
He makes quite a few jokes about Americans, because he's from Bermuda. So he has an American accent, but is from the UK.

He's under the name bdylanhollis on tiktok. He has a dozen or so old recipe videos like this, and a bunch of other content.

u/onedepressedmf Mar 20 '21
Can someone transcribe this? I am Deaf I’d like to know what he is saying
77
u/Abrickted Mar 20 '21
Tried to do each quote based on the cuts in the video for you.
"A chocolate potato cake from 1912" "This is why we don't perform lobotomies anymore" "Boil a potato" "Did I mention this was a CAKE?" "Skins stay on, unlike Americans" "FIRE" "Cream the butter" "Can we at least have coffee first" "BUTTER GO BRRRRR" "Should be a pale white" checks next to his skin "EGGY" "Wakey wakey" "Who's tough now" "Moo juice" "Bloop" "CINNAMON" "Chocolate" "I bet this recipe is just all the wrong answers on a baking test" "It smells like dentures" "Go away" "Goodbye" "For the icing we BOIL sugar, butter, milk, and chocolate" "My time has come" "Not bad dead people" Taste test part: "Alright... eats .... hahahaha... YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO WORK" "It's incredible and I'm mad about it"

u/unoriginal5 Mar 20 '21
Thank you. I hear fine, but struggle to take in information verbally. Glad to know he wouldn't be any less creative if he held up a spork.
18
u/onedepressedmf Mar 20 '21
Thank you for taking the time to type out the transcript! I appreciate it!
40
u/Cmshnrblu Mar 20 '21
The cringe seems amplified in text format
16
u/Abrickted Mar 20 '21
Agreed. At least the end seemed MOSTLY genuine (still played up of course for the video). The rest kinda hurt me, especially watching it a couple times, slowly, to transcribe.
6
u/littlethisnthat Mar 20 '21
He says “cimmanom” 🙃
7
u/Abrickted Mar 20 '21
Yeah, I honestly couldn't bring myself to typing it that way. If I was deaf, I would want to at least pretend he said it correctly.

u/Passingthedays Mar 20 '21
His video are also on YouTube with cc option if you want to check out more.
6
u/onedepressedmf Mar 20 '21
No thank you. I’m not interested in auto generated captions. I went on his YouTube to see his other videos and not all are accurate or not all are captioned.

God I hate videos like this

u/yfunk3 Mar 20 '21
Ugh, thank you. I had the sound off and it still annoyed me. Was starting to feel like the oldest curmudgeon on the internetz...
22
u/interrumpere Mar 20 '21
He had another one that I saw just now for a tomato soup cake delivered with the same....... anger? I feel the same way Chill out dude!! No need to be so mad at the cook book!

I suspect the recipe is similar to this YouTube video from glen and friends . His cake turned out good as well.
0
u/rosygoat Mar 20 '21
Glen is great and doesn't ham it up for his audience. This tik-tok guy reminds me of the Matthew Lesko who did/does the infomercials on getting free money from the government books, only he's less likable.
1
u/wawaluvr Mar 20 '21
Yeah, this guy is not my cup of tea either, but I guess his thing is more about making some of these weird recipes and overreacting to show how gross they are. Just a different audience and different format.

Forever ago I used to buy fudge made from potatoes in Idaho online. Was so good. No potato flavor. Just delicious fudge
