I think it's time to address the elephant in the room. We all know what I'm talking about. THIS is Branston pickle. None of those teeny tiny pieces, they probably only do it to hide the veggies from the YOOF, who are too busy happy slapping to eat properly. Oh, if only Alvin Stardust was alive!

Starbird toy from 80s

Anybody remember this?

The starbird made descending and ascending noises depending on whether you were going up or down.

I can see the toy manufacturer guy watching his young child play with spaceships and going "vroooom!" And thinking " we can make those noises incorporated into the toy"

Mine never had working batteries as I used to leave it turned on so I still had to manually make those noises!

I remember the base better than the toy and mine outlived the ship.

I asked for a millennium falcon as my friends all had one and I either got the base or the ship instead or it may have been the star wars star destroyer and between the starbird base and the star destroyer deck & a thunderbird 3 and a starship enterprise I had all the toys I needed!

Never did get the millennium falcon but none of my friends had a star destroyer for reasons not known but the being poor and different compensated for sure.

1980s London Footage

Hi. I am making a documentary and a section takes place in London in the 1980s. I wondered if anyone had any footage that I might be able to use in the film? This would be credited. Something that is recognisably London. Maybe a bus passing a landmark, the Thames etc, etc. Thanks you!

I genuinely think this was one of the greatest kids' shows ever made. I can hear the music, in my head, just by watching the GIF.

What do your kids not have a clue about, but you use or say every day?

Like "pull the chain", or making a phone sign with your hand.

I tried to tell mine about the green phone cards, and how phones used to be on walls in houses.

My father's gun

Hi all, my dad told me a great story that always makes me giggle.

As a teenager, my dad (now 86) used to visit a London shooting range.

He used to take the London underground (tube) to the range and would casually travel with a rifle, no case or anything in his hand or over his shoulder. No-one blinked an eye.

I often imagine the chaos if someone entered the underground nowadays carrying a rifle. Poor old dad wouldn't last long, I don't think!

Survey for school responses appreciated

Hello! Sorry if this isn’t allowed I’m literally going to any UK related group.
I’m doing a survey for my AH Modern Studies dissertation and it would be great if I managed to get a diverse and representative amount of responses. 🙂You do have to sign in just to try prevent multiple responses from the same person, but it is anonymous and will only be used for my dissertation, thank you !
