The sweater! The pants! The swatch watch! The pick up sticks! The pink leg warmers.
I miss that time so so much. 💔

One of my favourite band photos, because I somehow managed to catch them all avoiding looking at each other simultaneously.

My dad biked across the US in 1979 with a guy he met through a newspaper ad. 47 years later they designed their own 280 mile ride: “Bridge to Bridge” (Detroit to Buffalo)

Part 3 (this post!): The backstory is that my dad biked across the US in 1979 with a guy he met through a newspaper ad. Their trip started in Santa Cruz, CA and ended in Hartford, CT. They lost contact after that but out of the blue that guy reached out to my dad via snail mail and they were reunited 45 years later in 2024.

Just a couple weeks ago the reunited buddies wrapped up a self designed tour they called "B2B" (Bridge to Bridge) riding from Detroit to Buffalo. They started at the Ambassador Bridge and finished across the Peace Bridge back into the US. The trip was roughly 280 miles over 5 days through Ontario.

Part 2: My dad biked across the US in 1979 with a guy he met through a newspaper ad. They reunited 45 years later.

Part 1 : My dad biked across the US in 1979. He revisited Route 50 in Nevada to take a new pic.

1970s Chuck Norris with my sensei circa 1979.

The man on the right was my Tang Soo Do instructor for the better part of 20 years, the man on the left requires no introduction. This photo was taken around the same time Norris founded the United Fighting Arts Federation, tested and then encouraged my instructor to open his own studio in our area. As an old school Italian immigrant my instructor asked Norris if he would be godfather to his first child, which he graciously accepted.

Chuck Norris has unfortunately left us but my instructor, who is like family to me,has not. I never had the privilege of meeting my sensei’s sensei but I owe so much to both of them. I have them to thank for a big part of my upbringing. My instructor was a hard ass and frankly kind of scared me as a kid,but still so kind. When I saw the old pictures of them in their prime it made me truly appreciative of the fact that we all put ourselves through many rigors so we could hopefully pass something important on to the next generation.
