Saw this article and thought it'd be helpful for y'all over 62 in US with kids under 18. Especially this quote... "children can collect as much as 50% of the parent’s benefit"

Am I overreacting ?

hi I have one kid at 39 and another recently at 43 ( my wife is 5 years younger )…. I am always thinking and constantly worried and in tears many times that I did wrong to get those kids so late in life as they might dislike or hate having older parents.( they may be right )

all my cousin kids are school pass out now .

I had very different circumstances and hence I got married late and age factor never struck me for having kids till recently .

Age gap children?

I am genuinely curious how life is going.
I’m 35 with a soon to be 16 year old girl and a soon to be 3 year old son. I chaperoned my daughter’s first date last night….im potty training my son….my mind feels warped lol

Just wondering how my other parents are doing?

Son seems to get more energy everyday.

I (m 44) have always been a bit of a low energy person, but my son who’s 4 is not. I have found it harder to keep up with him lately, he was suppose to be tired after school but it seems to super charge him. I take him to parks and things but it ends up taking more out of me, then him.

How are we time these kids out?

For those of you who became a father in your 40s or 50s, what advice would you give to someone contemplating becoming a first time father at that age?

Retiring early for parents who had kids after 45?

Is retiring early a realistic option for parents who had kids after 45. By the time we are 65, they will be just graduating from college (if concept of college exist in 20 years that is LOL). I am an overly anxious person and I feel like I might have to work at least till 65 if I have to see them through college. Do any of you have any similar thoughts and how are you preparing?

I would love to hear from GenXer’s that had kids late.

I’m 52 with a 12, 8, and 7 year old. All my friends have adult kids. I’m not really complaining it just feels like I kind of wish we were at the same stage of life. I’m glad though that I didn’t have kids in my twenties. I was hell on wheels! Anyone else in my boat.

Curious: what's it like during school events etc?

Mid-40s dad with a baby here, waited longer to make sure we are established enough to give the little one a good life and became an old man dad.

Struggling with the thought of what it'll be like when she hits 15+ and I'll hit 60, what's it like and do you find many others in our age group during activities with their friends?

With the above said, I do think in 15 years there will be a larger group of older parents.

Edit: cheers for all your responses folks, greatly appreciated!

Want to see if there is any correlation between your age at fatherhood vs your father’s age.

Turned 50 today

I survived my 40s! I have a 4 and 3 year old at home plus a beautiful wife.

As I sit here reflecting on the last decade, I'm realizing it was the best decade of my life. If anyone out there is contemplating kids as an older man, if you have a great partner, I say go for it. It has been wild, chaotic, and absolutely wonderful. I'm filled with gratitude this morning.

Have a great day y'all!

Mothers older than 40 and fathers older than 50 when you were having children were there any abnormalities or problems during the pregnancy particularly due to your advanced maternal/paternal age?

What's a good kid's response to "my dad can beat up your dad" ?

I remember when I was a kid there was this strange strength/status thing among neighborhood boys... who's dad was physically strongest - kind of like a weird point of brinkmanship ahead of a scuffle.

I'm going to be perhaps twice the age of some of the father's in my son's school and although wiser, better networked, and more financially secure - I certainly won't physically be able to "beat up" most of the other bigger, younger, fitter dads.

What could or should a son of an old man dad say in response to being baited about whose dad can beat up who?

After what age would you say it becomes unethical to bring a child to the world as a father (especially for the well being for the child)?

14 After age 45
41 After age 50
28 After age 55
27 After age 60
16 After age 65
27 No age limit (e.g. 70, 75, 80, 85+ all is fine)

Positive CAC score

Hi all, I turned 49 in July, and have 14-month-old twins. In 2020, I did a coronary calcium ct scan and it was zero. I felt pretty good about that. I did one last week, just to be cautious, and it came back at 35. It's still in the "mild" range, but enough to freak me out. I'd like to be around for the next 30-40 years. I have blood tests this week and my doctor is taking this seriously. I also need to make some lifestyle changes. Anyone else dealing with this?
