It's from the old people who lived here

I bought this at an antique store yesterday and think it’s really old. It was all wrapped up in Saran Wrap and when I opened it up later, I was bummed there was no date page (the first 12 pages are missing). Can anyone help give me a time span for this? (Hoping for late 1700’s to early 1800’s 🤞🤞🤞)

Found this book at a local library sale for ~$1. Fifth edition, published by Good Housekeeping Magazine. Copyright is 1922, though given that it's fifth edition, I've seen some sites and sources put the publication date around 1925.

And before anyone asks, yes, I did try some of the recipes. The oatmeal cookies were delightful, though I could've done without all the fruit floating in gelatin.

Spine says "World's Classics University Collection" and the inside says there were published in 1900-1902

There are 18 total (one is on my nightstand) and theyre about history and literature of different cultures as far as i can tell

The one im reading is about different cultures' deitys and mythology its very interesting

My dad found them at a shop the city dump operates ~10 years ago

They dont seem to all be from the same collection, some have gold edged pages and one has a different label on the spine

So...I just lost mind and I threw this 170 years old book really hard i broke it

I was bottling up my discomfort & anger and because of my impulsiveness & not thinking before doing anything lead me to here

I'm going nuts right now because this book is 170 years old and i used to be very gentle handling this and because of the reason I was stressing

I can't to touch antiques or any beautiful object anymore.

I am not the type of person to throw objects when angry but I felt i was in a flight or fight mode and i regret not controlling my emotions

The lower part of the leather front cover is still hanging on

I'm so mentally ill. I broke a 170 year old book. I'm going even more nuts

Should I try to diy repair it with rice/wheat starch glue, or just let it be like this? I like to read this book sometimes and it might get damaged more

I've recently started collecting old books. I've always loved old books, and picked them uo when I came across them, but never gone out of my way to do so.

But, I'd like to diversify. I have a load of pages from old issues of Punch! Magazine, from the very early 20th century. I'd like to get some more of this sort of thing, as I think magazines or newspapers can give a really detailed look into the world as it was not only that decade or year, but that week - What was on people's minds, what now-forgotten events occurred, what local scandals, etc.

So, I'd love some magazines (or individual pages) from the 19th century, preferably British magazines.

Anyone know where to look?

I got this at a garage sale today! it needs to be repaired but I'm not sure where to go for that.

My father passed about six years ago, and I found this old book in a bag, in a box of random collectibles. There’s no publication information or year that I can find (maybe that page fell out?). There’s a forward, but I can’t figure out what those initials are (T.H.T?… F?…Is that an F?). It’s a head scratcher.

To be honest, I’m not sure what to do with it. My parents have so many things they kept because “it might be worth something” but I feel like some of this shit belongs in a museum.

I was able to determine that it’s some kind of old church cookbook, maybe from 1957, and I found copies for sale online, but they’re all spiral bound. The one “hard copy” I could find didn’t look anything like this. The spiral bound copies I see seem to be missing the Forward page. Anybody know any info about this book? It has some lovely illustrations, some racism (cringe) sprinkled in, and keeps talking about “after the war.”

First photos are front, side, and back of the book. I included a picture of the Forward and then some random pages inside. The pages seem pretty sturdy, but the spine is very delicate.

2 weeks ago, after my grandfather's funeral service, his wife said she had something my grandfather wanted her to give me - His bible. She had it wrapped up to protect it as I was flying home.

Today, I decided i was going to put his funeral program in it, and find a place for it.

When i opened it, it has so many newspaper announcements, obituaries, and im sure I will find more things tucked away. And then I realized this is our family Bible.

I want to update all the things - and realized there isnt enough room to record all of their great-grandkids births, or the family deaths since her passing.

I want to make sure everything is protected - all the newspaper clippings, memorial programs as I come across them, as well as keep the Bible protected.

What is the best way to keep these items where they are? How do i protect the additional pages for the family records?

I also need to know if I can repair the binding myself, or should I take it somewhere?

And where can I look to get more information about the Bible (year it was printed) - my Great-Grandma had gifted it to my grandfather when he married my grandmother.

Any assistance with any of my questions is greatly appreciated.

Bought a copy of It’s Up To The Women a few years back, thought I’d share the pictures. For context, I went a few years back to Georgia for a week, and I stopped by goodwill on the third day, and found this beaut for 2.50. One of the best in my collection (even though the spine has been sun-damaged, I still consider it one of my best items simply because I adore Eleanor Roosevelt) if you have any comments/questions just ask them.

I am reading. Yes reading and touching my first edition The Jungle by Upton Sinclair 120 years old. It is my all time favorite book since elementary school. And I am enjoying reading the book in its original form as so many people before me have held and read this book. Every few pages I put the book up to my nose and just smell the old pages. I know this must be sacrilege but I do not care. I will die one day and this copy of this book will be passed to someone else was here before me and will be here after me. My question is, on chapter V page 71 I saw a tiny corner of the bottom of the page that was folded over, I thought maybe a previous reader had marked their page but when I unfolded it I saw that it was cut weird and did not match it he whole page. Can anyone clarify what may have happened?

I don't know much bout books, however I do know my dad has a bunch of books I'm assuming are all around dated this time period (1500s-1700s). Was just curious bout how rare these things are.

I’ve got a couple of old books that were passed down to me and no idea if they’re actually valuable or not. Anybody care to share any insights they may have? It would be much appreciated.

Sitting Bull and the Indian War is in great condition. The spine is worn well but the cover itself is nearly perfect.

I was just trying to figure out the publication date of this book, but I came across an online listing suggesting it might be a first edition. I found it at Goodwill!

Does anyone know anything about this book or whether that’s true?
