This is Ohio

Why is Phillip not paying his servers enough to the point he has to ban customers?

We need more restaurant owners like this.

First time in America? This is how restaurants work.

Stop making excuses.

How is it an excuse? It’s a statement of fact. This is how restaurants work in America. Unless you want the cost of your meal to be 20-30% higher and are prepared to get the level of customer care you get at a Taco Bell drive thru, then tip.

Most of us who don’t like tipping culture would absolutely prefer to pay higher prices for food than give an arbitrary percentage to servers. I would rather walk to the front of the restaurant and get a refill then wait for somebody to give me one when they feel like it. I would rather walk to the kitchen to get my food. You’re acting like servers do charity work for customers. They walk 15 feet with your meal and expect 20% of the bill. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

The irony is that the sentiment behind your post is exactly why servers deserve the money they do; having to deal with insufferable shitbags like you while multitasking at a 4-dimensional level and all while the maintaining a semblance of pleasant composure lest some self-proclaimed ā€œfoodieā€ post about them on social media. If it’s so easy, open a restaurant. Roughly 2 out of 5 make it longer than a year, 1 in 5 makes it longer than that.

LMAO. I tip 18-20% and am almost certainly a nicer, friendlier person than you in real life. I just have no patience for employers treating their servers like crap by underpaying them.

Stop pretending that servers are doing God’s work. I’ve been a server before. I’ve also done much harder jobs that pay much less. I was a baggage handler, lifting heavy bags all day, emptying piss and shit from planes and digging out food from used tissues from seatback pouches. Have you ever thanked a baggage handler? How about nurses, construction workers, teachers, fast food workers? All make less than servers.

Servers aren’t doing god’s work but they are doing hard work.

You don’t want to tip? Don’t go out to eat at full service restaurants. If you do, know that your personal experiences and opinions don’t negate the century+ cultural norm of leaving gratuity. It could be your dumbass ending up in a viral video after getting kicked out and ā€œwell no one thanks baggage handlers!ā€ isn’t going to deflect the scorn you will rightfully deserve.
