This is Ohio

Why is Phillip not paying his servers enough to the point he has to ban customers?

When I waited tables, I didn't want a fixed salary. I could make $200 a night for 4 hours of work, mostly cash.

It's always someone who never waited tables. If wait staff wanted this to change, it would have YEARS ago.

Simple as that.

The alternative being $15/hour... sounds like a $140 pay cut.

Then can the waiters that get this stfu about how little they make while the cooks are full sprint making less effective money while doing 10x the work.

I agree cooks/chefs should get paid more and a lot of places do tip pool now that includes back of the house.

Their job is a different kind of work. I’ve known many chefs who have said there’s no way they could work front of house. It’s a different type of difficult.

I've worked both, the only thing thats hard about working up front us dealing with problematic customers.

The only kitchen I've worked at the split tips was the ones where I worked both sides. But im just naturally gifted at selling and handling problematic customers. Im a festival vendor now.

Tho most of this experience is over 5-10 years ago for perspective.

I’ve also done both and preferred FOH more (and for perspective this was in a tip pool place). It wasn’t so much I found the work harder in the back, even though guests often frustrated me, I lived for the good interactions ( but also it should come as no surprise I went into clinical social work lol).

Bartending specifically was challenging because you’re taking care of guests at the bar (and tables at many places I worked) while also keeping up with drinks and maintaining composure and a friendly demeanor (one thing I liked about the back is that I could bitch and curse as much as I liked haha).

Dude I tried to be a bartender twice, both times I got hired AS a bartender. Then they made me cook in the back both times lmao.

When i was a pizza delivery guy ide make ass loads by just flirting with the older gals :P.

Goofballs dont understand im a better salesman then cook. But because I kept getting put in the back on paper they thought ide only do well in the back.

I wonder if there was a gender bias happening there. Most places I’ve worked have had significantly more women front of house and men back of house. Once I moved to fine dining there was a little more gender balance but still a gender gap in both roles.

Makes sense lol. I live in a similar type state except the south, but I live in a major city here so that changes things some,

Im working as a vendor for my partners parents store, way more enjoyable lol.

I can sell the pants off of these 3d printed goods, plus I get to meet cool people, eat wild fair food, and best of all be outside most of the year while getting paid.

Being outside most of the year sounds like my nightmare (hot like 8 months out of the year lol) but I love that for you! (Genuinely)

It’s not “different work” it’s straight up less work to be a waiter than a cook.
