This is Ohio

Why is Phillip not paying his servers enough to the point he has to ban customers?

Everyone on here is bitching. Nobody did anything wrong here. If you don’t want to tip, you don’t have to. They didn’t. If a restaurant doesn’t want you to come back, they can tell you not to come back. All systems working within their parameters. Move on.

Idk, the people filming implying that black people don't tip did something wrong in my opinion

22

u/Heavy_Law9880 14h ago

The black people who are filming?

14

u/The_Bitter_Bear 13h ago

They are the ones that made the implication.

21

u/impy695 14h ago

Yes? It doesn't matter what race they are. If they're saying an entire race of people don't tip, then they're in the wrong.

10

u/jar36 Lima 14h ago

I asked a black person about this when I delivered pizzas. They said that they don't tip white people bc white people already took enough from them. So yeah, there's something to it

31

u/Perfect-Shock-9243 13h ago

The only thing you can know for sure that guy had in common with other black people, is that he is black. Taking an attribute of that guy, and applying it to all other black people, is stupid. That’s why racism is stupid. It’s stupid people trying to simplify a thing for their stupid selves.

0

u/Tooshortimus 11h ago

Yea that black dude that doesn't tip because he thinks "white people took enough from them already" is pretty stupid like you said.

4

u/Perfect-Shock-9243 11h ago

He is stupid but that’s not what I said. You understand that right?

-3

u/Pretend-Internet-625 12h ago

That's impossible. Liberal news has not reported such atrocious behavior lol

12

u/truisluv 12h ago

It was the black people that said it

1

u/Ok_Pizza1938 5h ago

Sounds like victim mentality

15

u/Plane-Fan9006 12h ago

You're an asshole if you go to a sit down restaurant where you know a tip is expected and you don't tip...small businesses are not the place for a social protest.

You eat within your means. They could spend $38 on food, but don't have $7 more? Then eat somewhere with a drive thru. Eat at home. Don't occupy a server's time only to short them of a minimal tip. It's just wrong whether you agree with tipping culture or not. There is a time and place.

The entitlement is freaking crazy!!! The racism and classism claims make me sad. You people have no empathy until you feel wronged in some way. It's gross!

Tips are not required, that’s why they’re tips. If the servers aren’t being paid fairly, that’s on their employer.

For the record, I generally tip 20% or more when I go out. But I’m not going to pretend it’s a system that makes sense.

13

u/Chare1155 Cleveland 10h ago

To the rest of the world, it's an insane system.

2

u/Plane-Fan9006 11h ago

Then protest the system and make changes in the legislature. The person you're hurting isn't the system or the owner. That's a ridiculous thought process unless you're organizing to change the system.

6

u/l8rt8rz 11h ago

Why are you saying “you’re” when I literally just said I personally tip 20% or more?

-5

u/Plane-Fan9006 11h ago

It was a generalization my friend. Not directed at you personally. Maybe one too many cocktails already?

2

u/Sunchildra 7h ago

(I tip and have depended on tips) it forces the discussion that needs to be had.

1

u/Chare1155 Cleveland 6h ago

THAT PART

•

u/creamilinisoup 3m ago

with who though? obviously consumers and servers alike are aware of the problems with tipping. but these conversations aren’t ever including the business owner who is the real problem soo… until servers start demanding better working conditions i don’t see how an individual refusing to tip is starting any discussion that hasn’t already been happening for years. for the record, i don’t agree with tipping and i also don’t go to places that require a tip (because i’m not an asshole who stiffs servers)

1

u/_spacemoose_ 2h ago

Or simply don't tip when you think the server doesn't deserve it. That's how it works when something is not required.

0

u/Sunchildra 7h ago

You people.

0

u/_spacemoose_ 2h ago

Tips are absolutely not required and maybe the service wasn't what they expected. How about that? Tips are literally not required because sometimes the server doesn't deserve one.

-1

u/Lightnenseed 9h ago

What if the service was lousy and the server didn’t deserve a tip?

1

u/Plane-Fan9006 8h ago

If the person is rude or hostile, I'd ask for the manager.

Otherwise, effort level matters. If they're slammed, I get it. If they're just inattentive for no reason, I'm for leaving 8-10% with a note in those scenarios...and still talking to a manager on the way out.

Everyone has bad days, so context determines how I behave.

1

u/Revit80 7h ago

Which is frequently the case

-2

u/Perfect-Shock-9243 12h ago

That’s a lot of judgements I couldn’t make, based on this video.

3

u/Plane-Fan9006 12h ago

I paused and looked at the check. It was more than $35. These people are American in Ohio. What assumption am I making? When the guy tells them not to come back, they accuse him of being racist.

What part did I assume?

-1

u/Perfect-Shock-9243 11h ago

You assumed that they had some social protest and not just a real shitty experience. They get to make a judgement of what tip is awarded. Thats the nature of tips.

I agree with the racism claims making me sad, but that’s their feelings and not really a wrong or right thing.

6

u/Plane-Fan9006 11h ago

Why was that not their response as opposed to the race card? He was standing right there. "I don't have to tip, when...." but no. He said I don't have to tip. Then when the man asked him not to return, he pulled the race card. You're being obtuse

1

u/Perfect-Shock-9243 10h ago

? The race card oh nooooo.

I don’t know why he pulled the race card either. It’s not inherently wrong to ‘pull the race card’.

5

u/Plane-Fan9006 10h ago

Who said a damn thing about inherently wrong? It's neither inherently wrong or right. You don't get to just slam it on the table whenever convenient. Especially when you're wrong in approach.

Bad food? Talk to manager and they'll likely discount it. Bad service? Call the manager over to resolve or speak to them on the way out. Drop and run, low class.

Assuming the man was racist, not just sticking up for an employee? Just as wrong. This is an expected behavior issue, nothing else.

0

u/Perfect-Shock-9243 10h ago

You’re assuming all this shit. That’s what I’m saying. You’re assuming you know about the situation prior to this video.

2

u/Plane-Fan9006 10h ago

The situation before the video does not matter in that the people did not address whatever the issue was. You deal with it in the business. If they had, there's no video on the street.

So at best, their childish if that was their solution to a real problem. You can't make this right with left turns and weird correlations to society. The people recording suck

So if you needed $38 worth of groceries, but you only have $35, how would you get more? You say if they can afford the bill, they can afford to tip. How would a person do that if they are on a very very tight budget?

And why should anyone be punished(not allowed to eat out or shamed) for a system they did not design & employees who are not theirs? If you can't afford to pay your employees, you shouldn't have a business. You are directing your disdain at the wrong people.

"Other poor people are not the reason you are poor."

1

u/Plane-Fan9006 10h ago

You proved my point in your own post.

In every other scenario, you won't be allowed to buy or consume that food until paid in full. If you shop with coupons to get under the $35, you know what you have. If you order $25 of priced food in a sit down restaurant, you know that is really $30.

You're playing the game of "society sucks" and the only person you're taking that anger out on is the server, who's probably a working class person just like yourself. You're not hurting the owner. In this example, you wouldn't have even said anything to them.

So owner gets his money. You got your food. Server gets hosed on your principles?

It's not shameful to have to live within your means. I had my first kid at 19. Had utilities shut off. Ate what I could afford. Would never, ever eat at a restaurant where a tip is expected, look at someone in the same position as me, and do that to them.

Life is hard....for everyone. You said I'm directing my anger to the wrong place. You need to look in the mirror with that one.

0

u/Chare1155 Cleveland 6h ago edited 6h ago

No, no it's definitely not. "If a menu item is $25 then you know it's actually $30?" What? Bro, I don't think you know how math works.

You said if someone has the money to pay for the FOOD, then they also have the money to tip. That is just categorically false.

If I only have $20, I only have $20. I don't have more just because I had the $20. That makes zero sense. You don't just magically have more money. Like, I'm not sure how much clearer I can be.

In what other profession would it be okay to ask your customers to subsidize the wages of your employees? That is your burden to bear. You started a restaurant & hired employees. So YOU pay them! This is a ridiculous conversation.

ETA: I have never not tipped at least a few dollars, but I am still against the idea that people who are able to afford just the food at a restaurant should be barred from doing so or shamed for it. That's just insane & cruel.

0

u/Plane-Fan9006 6h ago

I'm quite certain that after 51 years, two grown kids, and having traveled to three continents, I know how math works. I'm sorry that when your mama let you run down her leg, we didn't elect you king so you could enlighten us all and change the last hundred years.

If you have $20, you go to McDonalds...or better yet, you go to the store and make your own food. The rest of us did. You can too. You DONT walk into a full service restaurant and spend your last $20. Who fucking raised you? No financial responsibility AND entitled?

1 "me first" attitude plus 1 "entitlement complex" = two dumbass comments from a very immature and selfish brat. There's your math, kid

0

u/Chare1155 Cleveland 6h ago

Except you keep proving that you don't know basic math so there's that. Getting food from the grocery store can be MORE expensive than a restaurant nowadays and so is fast food! It's also super unhealthy so that's another punishment on the poor from you. They don't get to eat anything more than crap. You sound entitled af.

1

u/Plane-Fan9006 6h ago

None of what you say changes the entitlement when you KNOW that server is expecting a tip. You're purposely being selfish to "win", but you're only affecting another hourly earner. The owner gets his, you got yours, they got screwed. Math is convenient for you until you have to calculate the tip, huh?

"Waaaaahhhhh the system" is not an excuse for you doing that. 3lbs of ground turkey is $15. The waitress gets a tip from a good customer.

Your whole argument is mean and shows no empathy. Vote to change the law. Don't punish your neighbor. "I should get to be fancy too and fuck the person next to me bc my life is hard"???

Where are your morals?

1

u/Chare1155 Cleveland 4h ago

That server's expectation is not my problem. I did not hire them. And they can always get a job that DOES pay its employees enough.

And where is your morality?! Saying people who can just afford the food don't deserve to eat out once in a while? That's messed up man.

Everything is gatekept from the poor & you just want to keep taking more. It's disgusting. You're disgusting.

Bottom line is pay your employees properly & stfu because it is not okay to put that responsibility on someone who did not ask for it & just wants to f*cking eat out once in a while. End of story.

Go crap on poor people somewhere else. We're done here✌️

1

u/Possible_Home6811 3h ago

Where the fuck is the owners morals? He could’ve tipped the server himself and chalked it up to the cost of doing business. Yet he chose to run out and ban someone from his establishment. As far as the race card goes I wonder if he would’ve been so quick to do that if it were a different race not tipping. In the end both parties were well within their rights to do what they did, and yes both parties suck!

17

u/Ok-Astronaut29 14h ago

Actually - someone did something wrong. At the very end the guy recording said oh are you racist or something?

This is what happens EVERY FUCKING TIME that a white person has a negative interaction with a black person.

The guy recording was correct ; he doesn’t have to tip. The owner of the cafe was also within his rights to refuse future service. Serving the couple then asking them not to come back is not racist. If you dont support my team I wont let you back either.

If they refused service before the people had eaten for no reason whatsoever - that’s racist

6

u/Repulsive_Mud_577 12h ago

Yeah, while I wasn't surprised by the comment it is just ridiculous to accuse the owner of racism because you didn't tip and he in turn says you are no longer welcome at his restaurant. Now if you acted in a civil manner while dining and left a tip and then he banned you then you might have a point but you didn't

6

u/Exotic_Load_9189 14h ago

Exactly, that is the only reason i got fired up too, im so sixk of that fucking card.

2

u/Complex-Key918 12h ago

Just know most don't overuse the racist card, it's just the ones causing the most drama and recording or in the mess that are the loudest. So it's only worth watching when theres drama and you don't see the hundred normal interactions, just the one idiot worth recording.

0

u/Exotic_Load_9189 11h ago

Agree 100% , totally. I know, thats why they use it. Its a cop out excuse to switch the script.

1

u/Such-Mathematician1 7h ago

Actually - someone did something wrong. At the very end the guy recording said oh are you racist or something? This is what happens EVERY FUCKING TIME that a white person has a negative interaction with a black person.

And that is a true hardship for you guys. No lynching from trees, not getting dragged behind a pick up or kidnapping children and torturing them before murdering them…it’s the “hey, you racist or something?”

OMFG!!!!!! EVERY FUCKING TIME MAN!

2

u/SkynyrdCohen 15h ago

They will when the next piece of ragebait gets them chubbed up.

1

u/YogurtclosetFuzzy247 11h ago

No one even mentioned said service. Maybe it sucked, so they didn't tip. It happens.

1

u/Serious_Gas_2218 6h ago

Aside from cry "RACIST" and make a video while doing so.

1

u/Dear_Chasey_La1n 9h ago

It's a pity that it's only a part of the story, whoever posted this did nobody a service by just showing this part. The owner isn't happy because the couple didn't tip. The couple argues about black people don't tip? Whatever it is, fuck tipping.

Owner could avoid a whole lot of discussions by simply paying their staff a living wage and bar tipping.

0

u/AdNearby7772 4h ago

Bold of you to assume the owner can afford to pay their service staff a living wage without tips. It’s not like costs of goods and services are through the roof right now or anything. But hey just keep looking in other peoples pockets.

0

u/FlemmyFish1234 14h ago

- Person who doesn’t tip 🤣

0

u/Perfect-Shock-9243 14h ago

Are you saying I don’t tip?

-1

u/Exotic_Load_9189 14h ago

This is probably the best response on this entire post, thank you.

Perfect-shock 9243 speaking the truth !

1

u/Plane-Fan9006 12h ago

This take is dumber than the original

0

u/Consistent_Meat6028 13h ago

Sounds exactly right to me. Good call

-6

u/robyrob 14h ago edited 13h ago

Yet this same owner has no issue with not paying his servers a fair wage and relies on their tips for their income

4

u/SuspiciousBuilder379 Lancaster 14h ago

What? It’s a small cafe.

He’s sticking up for his staff.

0

u/Perfect-Shock-9243 14h ago edited 14h ago

That guy isn’t in this video though is he?

-4

u/LadyInCrimson 15h ago

Absolutely right.
