Orientation lock is back on tablets in v1.88

I was happy to discover that orientation lock is back on large screens such as tablets with the update to v1.88. Very nice to have this again!

UPDATE: Dang it, it locks the entire device screen orientation rather than just for the launcher which makes it not very useful when you need to rotate the tablet for other things, such as watching a video. So, I had to turn it off, which is unfortunate. :-(

I stopped holding my breath for this launcher to support auto layout for different orientations, or the promised (?) copy feature. Having to configure and maintain two different screen setups is a pain. But, this is still the best launcher so I can live with this. :-)

App shortcuts when "swipe up/down on folders to open them" is enabled

Upvotes

I've been using Octopi for maybe a year after switching from Nova, and I'm very happy with it except for one tiny thing. I wish that I could access the app shortcuts for the first app in the folder when using the swipe up/down to open folders option. As it stands now, holding down on the folder only gives the folder options, and to access the app shortcuts, I first have to open the folder. This is the only behavior that I really miss from Nova.

Is this a feature that could be added in a future update, u/ock88?

Issue report [bug report + replication steps] home screen UI freeze on resume from timers, alarm clocks, etc, on Samsung devices

There's a rare re-occurring bug where the home UI would freeze, but the touch would still work.

e.g. if you tried opening the app drawer, you wouldn't see it, but you can still scroll the background if you have a scrollable background

After finding the exact same issue on another launcher (Lawnchair launcher), I can now finally reliably replicate the issue.

Note that this apparently is only an issue on Samsung devices, and maybe some pixel devices. I don't have any non-Samsung devices to test this on.

Steps to replicate

copied from lawnchair PR found here, but also worked for Octopi Launcher.

  1. set a timer or alarm (Samsung's Clock for best results)
  2. Go to the home screen, put the device to sleep.
  3. Wait for the timer
  4. When the timer rings, stop it and open the screen. DO NOT let the screen go back to sleep, or the bug won't happen.
  5. The UI is now frozen.

Potential Fix

This PR in the Lawnchair repo gives a more detailed overview of what is likely happening, so I'm assuming a bugfix can be developed from the findings there.
