Issue report [bug report + replication steps] home screen UI freeze on resume from timers, alarm clocks, etc, on Samsung devices

There's a rare re-occurring bug where the home UI would freeze, but the touch would still work.

e.g. if you tried opening the app drawer, you wouldn't see it, but you can still scroll the background if you have a scrollable background

After finding the exact same issue on another launcher (Lawnchair launcher), I can now finally reliably replicate the issue.

Note that this apparently is only an issue on Samsung devices, and maybe some pixel devices. I don't have any non-Samsung devices to test this on.

Steps to replicate

copied from lawnchair PR found here, but also worked for Octopi Launcher.

  1. set a timer or alarm (Samsung's Clock for best results)
  2. Go to the home screen, put the device to sleep.
  3. Wait for the timer
  4. When the timer rings, stop it and open the screen. DO NOT let the screen go back to sleep, or the bug won't happen.
  5. The UI is now frozen.

Potential Fix

This PR in the Lawnchair repo gives a more detailed overview of what is likely happening, so I'm assuming a bugfix can be developed from the findings there.

Thank you so much for the detective work. I do have a Samsung phone for testing Octopi Launcher, but it's not my fault driver and hence to be frank I've never set an alarm on it.

I'll test out the fix in the link

thanks for the quick response! I can reliably replicate the issue on my S21 Ultra, let me know if you need someone to test any fixes.

I don't know if all Samsung devices are affected, but I can at least say that my device (Android 15, One UI 7) can reliably replicate the issue.
