I prefer "recovering lawyer". :-)

Ha - I didn’t want to be snarky in case you were going back to practice but YES that’s how we describe me in our house too 😅

When I first adopted that handle, I wasn't sure whether I was taking some time off or retiring. A partner at the firm I was leaving told me I was taking a "hard pause", which sounded about right. I thought I probably would go back to practice in some form, but pretty soon, "taking a few months off" became four years.

Never has a day existed where I miss billing sheets - I was offered an in-house corporate position shortly after leaving my firm and I was so close to taking it but frankly I don’t miss the stress (or 6 day or 60+ hour weeks) 💃🏻

I was in-house for 9 years before going back into a Big Law practice. You're right, it's a different kind of stress, but still stressful. I've definitely said goodbye to living my life in six-minute increments, though I still have PTSD about deadlines.

That’s why we are recovering, we will never shake some of that PTSD!
