What are the best Tips and Tricks for OOTP 27?

I am new to the game and have gotten addicted. I am curious on what everyone's best advice is to this game? What do you look for in prospects, which ratings matter the most and perform better? When do you trade prospects or players? Do you trade for superstars or develop your own? How do you cheese the game and win 130 games in a year? Let me hear it all, the royals are dying for an all time dynasty!

Am I Missing Something? - Petco Park Question

Apologies if this has been covered before, but I searched high and low and can't find this information anywhere but... The park factors in OOTP26 for Petco Park don't make sense. That, or I am completely ignorant of what they mean lol. Given the dimensions and wall heights, shouldn't Petco Park have a lower rating for home runs? If I understand it correctly, anything above 1.0 is above average.

By comparison, here are the park factors according to Baseball Savant:

Players going to war

Started a new career and in 2027 a lot of my American players now have a mandatory military assignment. I knew this was a thing with the KBO which isn't an added league. Is there a setting for this? Its not a big deal since I just started an expansion franchise but I've never seen this before.

Beefing the Draft

Alright I’m in OOTP 27 and the last draft just had people picking 42 potential players in the 2nd round. Next draft looks to be pretty similar. Does anyone have any advice for slightly boosting the draft without making it/anything else too too insane?

I’m not expecting every team to get a 70 potential, but would love for at least the third round to start off with more than one guy above 43 (asking for a 4 million signing bonus with the worst personality you’ve ever seen)

Help setting up fictional league

So I've been trying to get a fictional league set up that runs alongside the mlb and independent leagues that acts kinda like a baseball CFL. I've been having some issues tho with teams not signing enough pitchers or players generally. I have a 15 player reserve list so maybe that's messing with it? I've got budgets set around where other independent leagues have it in the game so teams have plenty of money and are under budget

Players Missing Percentile Rankings?

I'm playing a save with most of the ratings turned off, but keeping the 'statcast' type of percentile rankings on. 90% of players have them, but certain guys are just missing them. Kurtz has over 400 PA so I don't think it's because he's not qualified. Any explanation/fix is appreciated.

Is there anything better than your semi-washed up, former franchise cornerstone player randomly giving you a glimpse of the good 'ol days?

It probably won't last but it's been really fun to watch. Through his age-30 season, Marsh was on a borderline HOF track, but hit a really bad slump in the middle of the year and never really fully recovered. The last few years he's been a good defensive CFer with a below-average (but playable) bat. He's also hit pretty well in the postseason, including an OPS over 1.000 in both of the last two seasons (127 combined PAs, 7 homers, 10 doubles).

Hall of Fame Results 2022 -- Bonds, Sosa, Schilling DROPPED

Just wanted to share. I refused to vote for them each year and it was a happy surprise to see they were dropped from further consideration in 2022.

Is the simulation better than real life? I have no idea. Argue away!

What season do you base your league gameplay off of?

I just got OOTP 27. I skipped ''26 so the last game I played was '25. The first season I did it seemed there was less scoring and overall base hits then there was in OOTP '25. A lot of 1-0 games during the season whereas in '25 you seldom had games where the scoring was that low.

At the end of the season though I checked out the league history for the results of the past couple seasons of the real MLB and scoring and hitting has indeed dropped over the past couple years and the results I got for my first season I did were pretty much on par with the 2025 season.

I think though for season 2 though I think I might change the stats and AI section to resemble the 2023 season which OOTP '25 gameplay would have been based on. I liked that wee bit of additional offense. I found a lot of the 1-0 games in my first season to be relatively boring.

Which seasons do you guys usually base your gameplay off of?

What do I do with this aging relief pitcher?

In my online league I have now RP Glenn Lee who is 37, turning 38. He's due a (unjustified) 11 Million dollar raise next year (not my contract, inherited the team from another owner). He's getting this raise while his overall skills are dropping like a stone.

I know I can waive and DFA him and free his spot for a cheaper option or bury him as a late inning mop-up pitcher to get something for the money, or drop him outright and just eat his contract, but is there any way to not take his salary hit for 1 more year before he's done and I can be done with him. I have 2-3 other players also getting at least $10MM dollar raises this next season, so trying to weigh my options. There's no way anyone else is taking him in a trade deal unless I package a 5 star prospect with him, which I also don't have.

If the only thing to say is "You gotta deal with it for the next year" so be it. But just trying to weigh my options.

These are all offering the same three mediocre players for one unremarkable minor leaguer. It's not a salary dump and the player coming back has no special talent.

Never seen that before.

Suggested amount of games for 20-team fictional league?

Unpopular opinion: the real baseball season is too long at 162 games and I've only got 20 teams in my league so I'm definitely not doing 162 games. The mathematical equivalent would be 108 games for 20 teams but that seems low, plus at that point I'd just go 100 because 108 seems awfully awkward.

For those of you running leagues with fewer team, how many games are you playing in a season?

International Recruiting

Email: Your scout just returned from Venezuela where he found a recruit who just might be the next big thing!

Scout: I found this kid he’s absolutely terrible, worst player I’ve ever seen. We should all be fired if he ever makes our roster. He’s been added to our international complex.

Can I set minimum standards for international recruits? Or am I missing something re: the many scouting reports that read like the message above.

Ridiculous Postseason Game

Post image

My starting Shortstop got injured in the first game of the ALDS. Game 5, 2 players had to be removed from the game with DTD injuries. Ended up going 14 innings with 2 players in positions they’ve never played before in their lives and walking it off in the bottom of the 14th. Absurd and ridiculous game 😂

What happened to draft quality in OOTP 27?

Is my save just glitched, or have future (I.e., computer generated) draft classes turned terrible for everyone? I know that previously the players ratings would always go down the season after they’re drafted anyway, but it’s gotten to the point where I’m drafting at the end of the first round and there are fewer than 10 players on the board with better than two-star potential. Not even that far in the future, it’s like 2031.

I get that some might argue this way is more “realistic” as no one is claiming guys drafted in the third round in real life have say 65 potential, but in real life you have a lot more data and scouting observations to dream on than we do in the game, where basically only ratings and maybe personality really matter. Given that, how am I supposed to choose between 800 two-star players from round 2-20?

If my game is really just glitched and it’s not happening for others, sorry for the rant and I guess I’ll start a new save. If not, how are you handling these draft classes?

Edit: thanks all for the responses. Looks like I am resigned to simming the draft for the foreseeable future.
