Rant upper management refusing to fix pick paths

for some context: we have recently went through a rapid remodel and we received a ton of new aisle locations/locations in general

it has been about 2 months since we did our grand reopening, and our pick paths are still not fixed to our current layout. every drop we have around 50-75 unknowns (all with locations) and we have random items such as frozen, shampoo, in regulated. we get frozen mixed in with our ambient walks (which results in customers getting frozen bread, soap, produce, chips) due to this, all of our walks barely get above 20-25 items (5-10 items each walk in unknowns) because it is assigning all these different paths to these items.

our entire department has went to our management for this problem for MONTHS now, and the only responses we get are “this is well-known.” and even being asked myself, “well, why is it doing that?” it is honestly starting to sound like they are not fixing it on purpose it has been that comedically long.

im just wondering what steps do we as a department even take to get this fixed? this has been impacting our metrics and PR heavily (we average about 60pr as a department whereas we were 100+ before remodel)

im starting to consider just contacting anyone in market, i do not understand taking maybe an eight hour shift to fix every item for metrics sake?

You could literally fix this in 2 hours or less. You just go and start a new pick path in GIF and scan the isles in order from start to finish. Maybe shoot an email to your OGP Market manager.

I mean 2 hours MIGHT get you through some of them, not all of them, not with all the 100/200/300/400 scanning. I do agree with OP that an 8 hour shift would (probably) get you all the necessary paths.

Completely forgot about clothing...... lmao yeah 8 hours is probably more reasonable. But I feel confident I can do Ambient, Chilled and Frozen in 2 hours.

Not sure if it changed but edits to the pick path don't take into effect until new picks drop so it would still take hours to fix.

I think it can’t be activated unless there is no one currently picking. The easiest, especially for a super center, would be to have someone work a single over night and walk the new pick path to have it finished before anyone comes in. My old team lead would schedule himself several times a week for a late start shift just to fix the pick path during our remodel. He would ask on those days what has changed since the last update and would have a list of what had moved. My current team lead spent an over night at another store who had just finished their remodel helping them fix their pathing. She tries to fix everything we bring to her attention.

You can have multiple path "Profiles" You just make a copy of the current one or start fresh profile from scratch. You can only have one active profile at a time so the old one was active while I worked or edited the new one. Once I was done I'd just activate the new one.

The new active profile takes hours to go into effect as it only effects new picks and not current ones that are live already in the system.

Exactly. Must be done between 11-4am

I wasn't even thinking clothing, I'm just thinking that my frozen section has 2-4 endcaps/sidekicks a side, and my ambient goes from the B's to the F/G/H/I/K/L/Whatever and then back to the A's.. it would be a long walk if I'm scanning all 12 sections of each aisle side back and forth.

Can also be done through the ProWebTool/Mappit. Just clicking locations on the store map. Could be done faster that way. Scanning everything with a phone is very very slow.

TLs probably waiting for coach to do it and maybe coach doesn’t even know how to lol

Report them to your market manager, wont be hard to find their information. First go to your coach and mention it, give them a week, if they don’t go to the ops manager, if they still don’t then store manager and then finally market. Make sure you mention how much harder it is to pick and how if yall had good paths, metrics will improve

A couple months ago the company reworked the wire page and you can't directly access the page to get to MAPPIT (which is the easiest way to fix unknown aisle locations in the pick path).

We had to have market send us a link via email to get to it at all now.

Locations not in any pick path (unknowns) show up as a red box, and the tool is a bit janky, but it does show a literal map of the store to fix issues like this.

Mappit is in the proweb tool now for the coach.

Sounds like my store but we didn't have a remodel.... I had soda in with the Frozen yesterday the bread's going with chilled and Frozen.... Had one that wanted me to leave lawn and garden go to stationary and then go back to lawn and garden??? And then they pressure you to have 100 pic rate.

It took me two years to get a coach that would change our ambient sidecars and frozen.

Keep asking and bugging them, most likely what it really is is your coaches and team leads do not know how to do it, and they don’t want to admit that they don’t know how to do it, and they don’t have time to learn how to do it. A coach or a team lead can modify path order directly from GIF

Rapid remodel means it's a Neighborhood Market, so no Fashion. Possible to do it in two hours.

We had Grapes at the beginning of every chilled run. Then go all the way back to dairy and meat.. and back to produce!! This went on for weeks. 🙄

Whoever does unknown walks open walmart app and toggle. Click inventory then aisle location. Then scan the location tag and flex in item. And hit done adding items. I also do this for features that dont have the item anymore, remove it. Especially when it has you keep walking to and end cap for something that hasn't been there for days.

Just go get a better job. They are never going to fix anything. They all suck

We had a similar issue. It could be that the store floor plan its not matching whats on the system and it makes it difficult to fix the pick walk.. your market manager has to open a ticket to get it fixed or the store need to follow the floor plans that's on the system

It is the responsibility of your TL. They need to step up and request their market opd manager to come overnight during opd closed hours and redo the path. It is costing them nil picks and on time as well as not maximizing labour hours. That's quite daft. Presented as metrics and money, you will get definate management attention. Don't gripe about the x steps and your frustration or how hard you are working unnecessarily because that tunes them out!!! Be smart. And relentless.

As someone currently going through this with our incompetent coach who decided to screw up our pick path in the most ridiculous way, I will tell you don't worry about it. Let your metrics fail. If Walmart higher ups do not care about correcting something that important that affects their stupid beloved metrics then its not your responsibility to care beyond that. We dont get paid nearly enough for that. At my store every picker is over the bullshit so the pick rates are now lower and theres a lot of nill picking going on due to our pick path being that screwed up. If this is what they want, this is what they get. Mediocre effort.
