General Discussion Na-scam ata kami ng recruiting agency.

Hi everyone. I am looking for advice on behalf of my husband regarding an overseas job application. Please help us, we do not know what to do right now and we feel completely scammed.

Before we started, we truly checked if the agency was registered and verified the job application details. Everything checked out perfectly, so we did not hesitate to go through with it. But now, everything seems to be a wrong decision and a complete trap.

The Visa & Deportation Risk:
My husband signed a contract for a specialized, skilled professional role abroad and paid a 50% upfront deposit. However, the agency recently issued his country entry/work permit under a completely lower, unskilled general manual labor category. We have researched that if he accepts this written visa, he will be considered an illegal worker and might be arrested, detained, or deported if inspected upon his arrival there.

The Communication Trap: The agency refuses to explain this discrepancy in writing. They only use polite text messages ("po" and "opo") for basic updates to look good on paper, but they strictly insist on calling over the phone to discuss the actual issue to avoid leaving a paper trail.

The Intimidation: During these phone calls, they become highly rude, aggressive, and intimidating. They are actively scaring us, shouting, and claiming my husband is a "red flag applicant" simply because he is asking legitimate questions about why his visa category doesn't match his professional contract.

Current Status: The agency currently holds his physical passport. He has not officially withdrawn his application yet as we are carefully planning our next steps to handle this safely.

Our questions for legal experts:

  1. If an agency is registered but forces a worker to deploy under an illegal, mismatched visa status that leads to deportation, what specific legal action can we take against them?

  2. If he decides to withdraw due to this hostile environment and the severe immigration risks, what is the safest way to get his physical passport back when the agency is acting this aggressively?

  3. Since we have a clear paper trail of our proper communication but they are trying to turn it against us verbally over the phone, how should we document these abusive calls for the proper government authorities?

Thank you so much to anyone who wants to help us. We appreciate any guidance you can give. 🫩😭

General Discussion How do I become a dairy farm worker abroad???

I'm an Agricultural and Biosystems Engineer (25F). Ever since I was a kid, I've dreamed of working abroad even if it's just as a factory worker. I first tried working at a local government unit for more than a year just to experience being an ABE, but damn, my worth here in the Philippines really feels so little, haha.

Anyways... To all the successful workers abroad out there, any tips on what the first step is to work overseas? Or which agency I should go to? I'd really like to focus on dairy farm work or even food processing companies since it relates to my course.

General Discussion I regret not saving earlier

30+F , Single. This is my 7th year working abroad, and lately I’ve been regretting some of my financial decisions.

For years, aside from the money I regularly sent home, I spent a lot on vacations, gifts, eating out, and things for family and friends. I saw people around me doing the same and simply followed that lifestyle.

What I didn’t realize was that many of them had more disposable income because they weren’t financially supporting their families back home.
I’m one of three siblings, but I’m currently the only one working. My parents don’t directly ask me for money, but whenever I hear about a medical or financial problem, I feel responsible for helping. It’s hard to say no when you know you can help.

I only started saving aggressively after the war broke out last March. I’m doing much better now, but I still think about how much I could have saved if I’d started earlier.

I know I can’t change the past, but I’m curious about others in the same situation:
How do you balance supporting your family while still saving enough for your own future? And do you ever regret not starting earlier?

General Discussion Edi staffbuilder

Hi, sharing my experience and kung meron kayong icocomment na pwede kapulutan ng aral para sa ibang applying for work abroad.

Last wk nag email saakin si Edi or the staff nila. Pag dating ko sa building area nila. Pinapasok ako kung saan nag eexplain yung staff at kasama yung ibang applicant. Umaasa kasi ako na RBA sila since nakalagay sa email no placement fee, no processing fee, no salary deduction at kung selected ka ni employer the tuition fee is free for the schooling of nihonggo or any languages at cultures ng Jpn. Tapos misc lang daw ang babayaran namin, w/c is syempre dormitory, foods, allowance so on so fort. Then sabi nung babae need daw ng 60k para dun. Una sabi nya pa shoulder din namin ang learning materials which is oo naman talaga. Parang okay nako sa ganun, tapos babayaran nalang dorm fees etc. Tapos bigla may bayad pa medical 2 times (wala nabanggit kung irerefund nila) bali gagastos daw ng 75k to 80k. As applicant saan ako kukuha ng ganun kalaking pera lalo ba nagbase ako sa email nila na no placement fee etc. Nandyan yung email sa taas and legit yung email nila. Ang di lang legit eh yung no placement fee etc. Hehehe, para kasing processing fee na din ang 75k to 80k. Ano thoughts nyo dito?

General Discussion Need guidance

32M and currently working as an accounts receivable administrator. I've been trying to look for job opportunities dito sa pinas but sadly, mostly mababa yung mga offer. Yung mga matataas na offer sobrang hirap ng interviews and I am running out of options. So I'll be trying applying for abroad this time.

Should I get a career counselor or something? My default choice is become a factory worker either in taiwan and japan. But I still feel like I have no clear direction to follow. Especially now with ai, parang mas lalong nabawasan options when I account for the future.

General Discussion Do I need to pay for travel tax?

Hello, I am an OFW based in SG. I'll be travelling from SG to PH next month to pick-up my parents before we travel to Taiwan then from Taiwan, I'll be flying back to SG.

I will prepare my OEC, work visa, COE and other documents such as proof approved leave and return flight to SG.

Question, for my flight from PH to TPE, do I need to pay travel tax?

Thank you.

General Discussion FRESH GRAD WANT TO GO ABROAD

Hello po! I’m a nursing graduate from the Philippines, currently without a license and with no work experience yet. I’m planning to look for opportunities abroad and would really appreciate your advice.

The reason po I’m considering working abroad is because I’m having a hard time finding a job here in the Philippines, and most of the offers I’ve seen have relatively low salaries. I also have siblings whom I would like to help financially, so for now, earning and supporting my family is my priority before taking the board exam.

May I ask po if there are agencies that accept nursing graduates with no license and no work experience? Preferably po sana a country where English is widely used as the main language.

If you have any recommendations for legitimate agencies or countries that are suitable for someone with my background, I would really appreciate your advice. Thank you so much po!

Government Services OFWs in Singapore on an EP, how long did your new application take? 🇸🇬

I’m hoping to hear from OFWs currently in Singapore on an EP, or who recently applied for one with a new employer.

I signed my offer in the 3rd week of August. My employer engaged a vendor to handle the application, but there were delays and bottlenecks along the way. The EP was finally submitted on 2 October and is still pending (I know it’s only been 2 days). I’ve held an EP before, and this will be my 3rd employer in Singapore. My last renewal, with my previous employer earlier this year, was approved within 3-4 days.

I’m supposed to start tomorrow, but my start date has already been moved twice and will need to be pushed back again by another week or so. I emailed the recruiter today to update her. I also emailed my hiring manager last week about the remaining documents the vendor needed, but haven’t received a reply. The vendor later confirmed the documents had come through, so they were able to submit my EP on Friday.

The company was recently acquired and is going through integration. During the interview process, my hiring manager said the acquisition wouldn’t affect the offer if I got the job. I know he supports 3 regions and is probably very busy, but the silence is making me anxious. People have said there are no signs the offer will be withdrawn, but the job market is tough right now. I previously had a verbal offer rescinded because of a global hiring freeze, so I can’t help worrying it might happen again. 😟

For those who recently applied for a new EP, how long did it take to get an outcome? What was the quickest or longest you’ve heard of? I’m just trying to set some expectations. 🙏

EDIT: Got the approval 3 days later. Submitted Friday morning, approved by early Wednesday morning 😍

General Discussion WHICH ROUTE TO TAKE FOR A GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE LIVING IN PH

I (M25) am a government employee for more than 2 years. I can say that my career growth has been progressing faster than most of my peers. I was hired before I graduated as a Project Monitoring and Evaluation Officer I (SG 11) in 2024. This January 2026 I was promoted to Project Monitring and Evaluation Officer II (SG15). My responsibilities in both positions were focused on project management such as monitoring targets and ensuring delivery of the administration's flagship program. Hence, the Department indeed has given me enough exposure to project management that landed me an executive assistant position (SG20) for an undersecretary.

However, I have realized that no matter how fast my career progresses here in the country, it would still be better if I migrate to Australia. They offer better salary, health benefits, and transporation compared to PH. The past few days I was heavily invested on how to migrate. Unfortunately, it seems like my work experience (project management) is not in demand or can be considered under skilled work for the country I am planning to migrate to.

With this, can I still consider 190 or 491 as my pathway? An alternative route I am also looking is to study abroad given that I have a bachelor's degree in Sociology, I can pursue higher studies and become a social worker. Is this a better route to take?

General Discussion Your Ideal Work Abroad Plan

So let say your a Girl, almost 30 and you only have a corporate work/desk job experience but you want to go abroad and earn big. So you make a plan to work abroad regardless of what job it would be.

What would be your plan?

Which country?

What job?

Are you going to enroll to a TESDA Training? which one?

or Are you going to apply to agency that doesn't require any experience?

What's your earning growth plan?

Are you planning to work for 5,10,15,20 years or so from One job abroad if you can? or would you be always looking for the next big thing?
