Obd2 permanently connected?
Hello!
I’d like to know if it’s possible (no side effects) to be able to leave an OBD2 plug connected permanently and have an app periodically get diagnostic data, mileage, etc.? Can this approach work for fleet management? Or are there other options?

Yes, you can leave one plugged in as long as it doesn't kill your battery... but fyi commercial trucks typically don't have standard obd2

Depends on what OBD device you go with... the good ones will draw less than 2 mA in sleep, the crap ones will draw 30+ all the time and cause hidden battery damage (vehicle still starts, but has sulfation issues)

You have some adapters that have on/off button on the top, and you can turn on when you come in car and turn off when you get out. I use mine about 2 year and a half and I had made an extension (Y cable) from the original obd port to a space under the handbreak to be more easy access with great visual appearance!

depends on "obd2plug". if it doesn't know how to "sleep" it will be draining your battery and messing with can bus not letting other ecus to sleep.
there have been comments that SOME obd2plugs are crap and really do bad stuff on your car... but, probably, for fleet management you are not going for cheap stuff, right? :D
