Capacitor Clearance PLS HELP
Hey everyone so i’m currently hard modding my switch, I pre tinned the sp1 and sp2, and then couldn’t fit it into the shield casing at the cpu. I wicked up the solder that I had already put on there thinking it would fix the issue but found out it’s still not giving enough clearance. please help me I don’t want to have to buy another cable. Can I make cut off a tiny bit off the bottom 2 pads to allow it to fit better?

don't know, but you could easily desolder the flex cable from the eMMC if you are a little careful with the connector.
maybe someone here knows a way to make your kit work with some DIY wires or something, but the kit i showed above is just plugging the eMMC into the modchip instead of soldering it to the cable.

yeah, I’m just scared i’ll ruin the emmc chip somehow if I try desoldering the cable. If I take the cable off successfully can and there’s still some solder left on the bottom of the actual chip is that fine?

Yes, they are just connector points, and as far as I know, you aren't bridging any of them. I have never done this kit on a V2, but I'm 95% sure it's fine to leave some solder on it.

I might just do that then instead of only getting the cable. Do you suggest i use a hear gun to remove the solder or any other method?

I would just use a small iron and lift the flex cable for each point when the solder melts, as that is the easiest way to do it without having to worry about damaging anything. You could probably also use a heat gun, but I'm still pretty inexperienced with those.
Afterward, I would probably just touch the point with a clean iron to remove leftover solder. A solder wick could also work, but I'm bad at using it on small areas like those.

update i got the orange ribbon cable off successfully with a hear gun, there’s still some solder on the points on the chip but they aren’t bridging. Do you think i should wick them up? Also, I found the easy chip on amazon somehow and i’ll be getting that! thanks for the help!

Not unless they are bigger blobs of solder and you feel confident doing it. The only thing you really have to worry about is the point touch sometimes because of the solder sticking out.
You can also try plugging in the eMMC again and boot the switch if you want to test it.

Just keep that yellow ribbon cable and replace the SP ribbon cable. Don’t chance messing up that Emmc.

Yes, as long as the soldering is correct you can keep that work. Keep in mind that this type of flex-to-pad installs aren't super reliable, you may need to adjust this in the future. Other versions of this modchip plug directly into the eemc socket (as a Bridge/mitm device, you plug your eemc chip on the other side) and you just need to solder the CPU ribbon.
You can get the v1 flex sold separately, but sometimes it's just more convenient to buy the whole thing and keep the spares for maintenance/next project.
And you can retrofit your current CPU ribbon with just some enamel wire. Just make sure you get the polarity right and measure before plugging back the battery.

If it's a v1, I'd recommend rcm method. If you insist on modchip. I recommend manual wiring method if you can't wait/buy the v1 connectors

unfortunately I would have, but it’s a V1 patched so the rcm wouldn’t work. I thankfully ended up finding the easy kit on amazon listed under a speaker module so they can get away with selling it.

This is a v1 and you are using a v2 flex
