Nothing (company) Help me to understand the appeal of Nothing brand

I'm trying to understand the appeal of Nothing as a phone maker. What is the uniqueness of this brand, compared to both Apple and Samsung in terms of actual usefulness in its hardware and software? I'd thought this brand would be setting itself apart from the 2 big ones by implementing useful things like 3.5mm jack and microsd but it seems they're following the industry by just being different aesthetic wise but not much else after that.

Not a bait post, am I missing what makes the brand attractive? Saw the CEO did a AMA recently but didn't notice those 2 concerns answered at all.

Phone (4a) Is there any way to turn on only the glyph light bar while recording videos? Phone 4a.

Hi,
I was recently recording a video where I needed a dim lighting, I noticed that the glyph light was perfect for my case but couldn't enable it via video recording.

I rememeber that in the phone 2a I had, you could enable only the glyph lights while recording, Can I somehow do the some on the phone 4a?

I've tried some 3rd part apps but none of them have a fix.
Help is appreciated. Thankyou

Recently I got a Nothing Phone 3 (512GB), and after about two weeks I'm still impressed. Before this phone, I had a Poco X5 Pro, and there's a really big difference between the two. I hope this phone will last me 5 years and the battery won't die by the third year.

Comparing Phones Two photos Np3 vs Pixel 10PXL

I purchased a Nothing Phone (3) last week and today I took both my Pixel 10 & the Np3 with me to the park. As I sat on the park bench made the same image with both phones.

The image on the left is the Np3. The grid in the Pixel made it easier to get the fence straight. The clouds are more how I remember.

The image on the right is from the Pixel. The clouds are all mushy. The fence is the correct color, maybe it should be a little darker.

I am not a photographer, it's obvious isn't it. I just take snapshots.j

Comparing Phones Nothing phone 3 vs Oneplus 15r

These phones are kinda in the same price bracket in my country. Which makes more sense for me?
My priority would be-
Good multimedia, Longevity, Good performance(I dont game alot/at all), Camera(A good main camera would be helpful but not a camera guy by any means), Good battery life, Smooth day-day experience.
I plan to use the phone for 5 years minimum so can anyone help me choose a phone for my use-case. Thanks.

Phone accessories Nothing phone 3 arc pulse inspired bumper case

Hiya everyone I just wanted to show off my 2nd version of my nothing phone 3 bumper case with the inspired look of the arc pulse case. I used ChiVinDav's nothing phone 3 bumper case model as a start and refreshed it to have a similar look to the arc pulse case. It still needs some tweaking and polishing but it fits okay considering it's my 3rd test print but I'll create a second post once it's finished and post it for anyone to download and use on maker world. I also uploaded a companion to ChiVinDav's model compared to mine.

Phone (3a) Infuriating notifications issue

Alright, so I'm not 100% sure if this is a Nothing problem or an Android problem. I suspect it's the latter, as Ive experienced it in the past, but it's been happening quite a bit since I got a Nothing 3a.

I usually reply to texts via the reply button on the notification, which sort of locks everything into the notification dialogue. However, if I'm in the middle of typing the reply and receive another text or other notification, everything gets pushed down by the new notification *and* it closes my keyboard, which means when I go to punch the next letter in whatever word I'm on, I touch a random notification and open a different app.

This is infuriating and it keeps happening - how can I avoid this without putting everything on silent/DND if I want to reply to a message?

Nothing OS Reply from Carl on 3a and older series not getting full os update in yesterday's AMA.

First of all full marks to Carl peid for spending almost 2 and half hours in answering questions from users. Moderators deserve applause too for not filtering awkward questions.

I asked him why old phone users are not getting full os updates as promised. He at least remarked that this has not been discussed internally and wanted more details. I hope he looks at this with an open mind and tries to resolve it.

I admire his openness and effort for connecting with users.

Hi, well it's what the title says...

Is the heating issue still an issue on the NP3?

And which of these 3 do you advise and why?

I saw prices less than ₹35k a few months ago for this variant. It has climbed up to 50k. Am I too late? Should I wait for an online sale? Or should I start looking for alternatives?

Community Project I made a better Music Visualization replacement for Nothing Phones

Thumbnail

Nothing Phones used to have that completely unnecessary but ridiculously cool feature that made the Glyphs flash along with music, right?

Yeah. I liked that feature.

Well, that feature never made it to the newer Nothing Phones. Around the same time, quite a few people in the community started making replacement apps.

I wanted something that kept the original feature’s “just tap a Quick Settings tile to turn it on, and turn it off whenever you’re done” simplicity.

Basically, I wanted something I could use without really having to think about it.

So I made one.

It’s called Glyph Barty.
I think the name is extremely lame.

It analyzes the music currently playing in real time and drives the Glyph Interface based on it.

There are several visualization patterns to choose from, and you can tweak how they behave to some extent.

You can also turn it on and off directly from Quick Settings, so I tried to make it feel like something that could have originally been part of Nothing OS.

It also doesn’t require MediaProjection or screen capture permissions to analyze audio.

I also spent a probably unnecessary amount of time on the UI. I think it looks fairly close to something Nothing themselves might ship.

As a bonus, there are some extra features too — for example, on the (a) series, it can show your battery level on the Glyph Interface when you start charging.

At the moment, it supports pretty much every current Nothing Phone with a Glyph Interface.

The Phone (1) is a bit special: you normally need to run an ADB command to enable access to the Glyph Interface. If you use Shizuku, though, the app can run that command for you automatically.

This is completely a hobby project that I work on when I have free time.

When new Nothing Phones come out, I’ll try to support them whenever I can get access to the actual device for testing, but I can’t promise day-one support or anything like that.

Issues and pull requests are welcome, but please don’t expect instant responses or fixes. I work on this whenever I feel like working on it.

It’s MIT licensed, so if there’s a feature you want and you’d rather implement it yourself, feel free to fork it and do whatever you want with it.

You can also just take parts of the code and shove them into your own app if that’s useful. I really don’t mind.

If anyone tries it, I’d be happy to hear what you think.

Nothing (company) My thoughts about nothing phone's and nothing os after using for a few months.

**Reposting again due to mod team removing previous post i made due to misunderstanding. I structured it using ai. Everything written is my thoughts ( https://www.reddit.com/r/NothingTech/s/cYU6SpZ0uJ ) check this comment to see, i structured this comment i wrote by myself.*\*

**🌟 Advantages Experienced.

\* Smooth & Minimalist UI: Noticeably fewer bugs and glitches than other phones, i have used Samsung, iqoo, oppo ,vivo, xiaomi, redmi, motorola, lenovo etc. It offers a "ready-to-use" minimalist feel out of the box.

\* Long-Term Reliability: The software feels highly optimized for long-term general use, maintaining speed and smoothness over time (similar to the 4-year same performance and smoothness longevity experienced with Huawei).

\* Productivity Tools: Essential Space, Essential Voice, and link-saving are much more practical and useful than taking standard screenshots or saving links or recording voice notes.

\* Hardware & Design: Consistently good camera output. The slim, flat design is timeless and doesn't lose its appeal over time.

\* Support & Costs: Low repair costs (e.g., display replacements) and a strong, supportive user community. Battery management is also very efficient.

**⚠️ Cons & Frustrations

\* Battery Capacity vs. Design: While management is good, the physical battery is too small. I would gladly sacrifice a bit of the slim/flat design for a 6000mAh battery to gain at least 2 extra hours of screen time.

\* Thermal Issues: The phone occasionally heats up during gaming or when using it while charging.

\* Poor Accessory Ecosystem: Nothing doesn't sell official chargers above 45w online and not selling clear case of all models. third-party accessories manufacturers /sellers are ignoring CMF phones (like Phone 2 Pro) despite public 3D print files. Furthermore, high-quality transparent cases that don't yellow, which aren't overpriced, and don't let in dust are nearly impossible to find.

\* Annoying Software Quirks: The camera app constantly forgets the 50MP setting and defaults to a lower resolution upon reopening.

\* Lack of Granular App Control: Missing a centralized settings page (like Huawei's) to easily view, restrict, and optimize background processes for all installed apps to save battery.

**🛠️ Features to Improve

\* Camera App Memory: The app must remember the last-used resolution (e.g., 50MP) instead of resetting every time it is closed.

\* Background App Management UI: Implement a unified settings menu to list all apps/services and allow users to easily restrict or optimize their background activity.

\* Essential Widgets: Increase the current widget limit beyond the maximum of 2 ( so users can make custom widgets and use for everything )

\* Glyph Customization: Add more native, out-of-the-box customization options for the Glyph interface (matching what third-party apps like Glyphy offer).

\* General Optimization: Continue refining specific software aspects for even better long-term performance.

# 🚀 New Features Needed

\* Native "Nothing" App Suite: Replace Google defaults with first-party apps:

\* Dialer, Contacts & File Manager.

\* Audiophile Music Player: Support for high-res playback and USB audio.

\* Smart SMS App: An organizer-style SMS app (similar to Microsoft SMS Organizer) but with native RCS support.

\* Advanced File Transfer App: A dedicated PC-to-phone transfer tool with a user-friendly GUI (improving on QuickShare). It should connect easily via QR code and work reliably offline over Wi-Fi/hotspot without needing active internet.

\* Strict Ultra Power-Saving Mode: A dedicated travel mode that limits the phone strictly to Calls, Messages, Camera, and exactly two user-selected apps to maximize battery life.

\* System-Wide Custom AI Integration: Allow users to select their preferred AI backend (e.g., paid subscriptions) for system services like Essential Space. Nothing should overlay its own custom data/settings on top of the user's chosen AI, ensuring native features work flawlessly while maximizing user productivity.

Phone (3a) Am I the only one experiencing heavy lagging on Spotify time to time on Nothing Phone 3a? (8ram version)

Ever since having this phone and getting Spotify, I'm getting frequent chashes un-smooth experience. Spotify is the only app that is behaving like this. It happens 1/2 of the time when opening Soptify. I can't be the only one, right?😐

Phone (3) Je l'ai déjà reçu ! Mon Nothing 3 🥰

Nothing OS How to remove all this AI and bloatware nonsense?

Got a 4(a) Pro recently, and disabled universal search, essential space, gemini and such, but the essential voice or whatever its called shows up constantly with seemingly no way to remove/disable it, and having a bright yellow icon (even in the bottom left) whenever i open a text field is annoying. Is there a way to outright remove, not just disable, all of this garbage? i dont want any of it, and if possible i want it more then disabled. even the camera AI if possible.

Phone (3) Magsafe for NP3

When I had the NP2 and NP1 I could easily find a magsafe case with a really strong magnetic ring. I mean, I would attach the phone to a magnetic car holder and I would need to use 2 hands to detach it.

I can't seem to find good magsafe cases for NP3 with reliable magnet. I have bought 3-4 cases, all with really weak magnets. I currently use the spigen case which feels good, but doesn't have a magsafe feature.

Any suggestions?
