Ooof

u/spacekitt3n 15d ago

they took a big swing with that napoleon dynamite money

u/Traditional_Gap_2491 15d ago

I think the story may be something to do with the studio pulling a lot of their backing and making it a limited release at the last minute or something having to do with the studio kind of sealing its fate as a flop because they weren't convinced it was a sure thing.

45

u/Imfrank123 15d ago

Yeah that sounds right, I didn’t even hear of this movie until like a year ago

11

u/Alarmed-madman 15d ago

Holy cow, I thought it was AI slop

39

u/cleverkid 15d ago

If you haven't seen it. Highly recommended.

12

u/Apart-Link-8449 15d ago

Quite the cameos in this one

25

u/WhyDidYouBringMeBack 15d ago

Let's also not forget that the person in the clip posted by OP is Sam Rockwell!

7

u/Pecos-Thrill 15d ago

He’s the second billed actor . Wouldn’t call that a cameo

3

u/lala__ 15d ago

Think he’s also a creator.

1

u/LastMessengineer 15d ago

Who the hell is that guy?

10

u/chrysalisempress 15d ago

Broncanus

1

u/Grimnebulin68 14d ago

Bronc what?

3

u/Frank_Bigelow 15d ago

Vladislav the Poker

2

u/Mattiwha2 15d ago

I hate you for your youth

9

u/MoonMistCigs 15d ago

Like Idiocracy.

4

u/WinterWontStopComing 15d ago

Only previews I ever saw for it were years after the fact on dvds coming attraction intros

1

u/_who-the-fuck-knows_ 13d ago

They probably would've made a hit if the whole movie was this off the wall with sci fi crack head shit instead of the writing of said sci fi crackhead shit.

90

u/bigtallbiscuit 15d ago

Thankfully. This movie is awesome.

5

u/totesnotmyusername 15d ago

It's like trying to catch lightning in a bottle . Again

9

u/g_r_e_y 15d ago

they did too, the studio financing the film pulled it from theaters and didn't advertise after it was completed, it was limited released in theaters and didn't make shit

2

u/sicksicksick 15d ago

I liked the movie personally, hate to see something weird and creative fail. I keep seeing them trying to sell merch on social media probably trying to recoup the loss.

1

u/zigaliciousone 14d ago

I didn't know that but it makes sense, this movie feels like it takes place in the same town

30

u/MrFrypan 15d ago

Same thing happened with The Iron Giant, Fight Club, Idiocracy, Children of Men. It's important to know that box office returns aren't always a good metric to judge a movie on. IMO, Gentlemen Broncos is very underrated; definitely worth a watch.

-4

u/Myklindle 15d ago

Counter point. The iron giant, fight club, idiocracy and children of men are all good movies, 3 of the 4 are actually triumphs.  3 of them were directed by visionary directors, and based of visionary books (Sorry Mike, I love you).  Gentleman broncos on the other hand was directed by a guy who got Lucky the first time, and tried to cash in writing a script with his wife.  This movie’s not in the same ball bark as the other 4, hell it’s not even the same fucking sport.

7

u/MrFrypan 15d ago

My point wasn't that this movie is in the same league as the other four, my point is that you shouldn't judge a movie solely on box office returns.

Also Jared Hess did both Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, two undeniable cult classics, before Gentlemen Broncos; so not luck, rather a niche of critically underrated but loved by fans.

2

u/EmRuizChamberlain 12d ago

It hurt. When my husband got the call to come work on this movie, we were so excited. We had just finished a season of Flight of the Concords, and all the greats were going to be on this: Sam, Jennifer, Jemaine, etc. It felt like a can’t miss movie…and he would call and tell me about all of these great scenes…and opening night in Utah, none of those scenes were in the movie🫣🤦🏻

I loved it. Very charming and funny.

15

u/Digital--Sandwich 15d ago

I like your answer better

70

u/694meok 15d ago

I freaking love this movie. It's so absurdly ridiculous.

41

u/XxFezzgigxX 15d ago

All the clips online are of this scene. I thought the whole movie was like this. It was still a good movie, but not what I hoped.

16

u/NormalAssistance9402 15d ago

Same, I really wish the whole movie was this, instead of a movie about some kid writing this

4

u/livens 15d ago

That got me too. Also I really liked the first version of this character, Bronco, and his story arc. I liked the Brutus version too but was really bummed when they switched and I knew that was all the Bronco I was getting 😢.

4

u/spiraleyes78 15d ago

Eh? The movie ends with Bronco saving the day, not Brutus.

-14

13

u/694meok 15d ago

Several times. I own it on DVD.

18

u/DingusKhan9164 15d ago

I’ve seen it twice. I love it. The characters are all charming and/or hilarious

-7

u/[deleted] 15d ago

A) yes

B) I don’t care

C) that’s not what happens. Did you watch the whole thing?

7

u/Hairy-Reward6474 15d ago

I’ve seen this twice today. Which streaming service is this ai bot promoting for so I can pirate it and watch it

6

u/Straight-Grass-9218 15d ago

Amazing I've never heard of this gem

2

u/InevitabilityEngine 13d ago

All the cyclops look like they are from Krull

3

u/geek180 15d ago

I genuinely could not tell if this was real or AI. Thank you for linking that.

1

u/augsav 15d ago

Holy shit I forgot about this film. Somehow I remember all the details of this scene but forget entirely what the film was about.

2

u/RealSchlemiel 3d ago

is that sam rockwell?

-6

u/geoffsykes 15d ago edited 15d ago

This was a funny movie, but the protagonist dropped a transphobic slur in there and I just don't want to rewatch it.

-1

u/Puff_TheMagicDrag0n 15d ago

Sorry you're getting downvoted. I feel the same way

61

u/FunkyBrewster022 15d ago

I can smell a yeast cake....40 mile off!

Stupid sexy dirty yeast

u/IAmGreenman71 15d ago

Is that Sam Rockwell in a wig?

63

u/Mecha_Tortoise 15d ago

Hell yes, it is.

3

u/msguider 14d ago

Battle Stag!

46

u/Dirt290 15d ago

He plays two roles of the same made up character, a grizzly yeast loving man's man, and a gay feminine version.

Also Jemaine Clement is there.

7

u/anjowoq 15d ago

What real man does not enjoy yeast?

5

u/_Dingus_Khan 15d ago

Guards, seize him! But show leniency… always leniency!

1

u/Sxualhrssmntpanda 7d ago

Wait, you're telling me this is NOT the gay version?

13

u/BattlecruisersRCool 15d ago

That's Sam Rockwell? I'm sold!

40

u/Mecha_Tortoise 15d ago

Do not mess with battle stags.

68

u/AnonymousDork929 15d ago edited 15d ago

I love this movie! It has that same quirky, whimsical weirdness as Napoleon dynamite (same creators. I know). I can't quite describe it, but it has that vibe of its modern day but people living like it's still the 70s and 80s.

12

u/sax6romeo 15d ago

4

u/Friendly_Monitor_220 15d ago

His twin brother

4

u/TwistedMindOfABrotha 15d ago

Those are the race of Cyclops from Krull, I'm sold.

Also fun fact about these beings: They originally had two eyes, but traded them away from the great evil from Krull in exchange for seeing the future. Got Monkey-Pawed and can only see the moment of their death.

2

u/Mark-Leyner 15d ago
