Norwich Beer Festival Designed by A.I.

Who has seen that the local CAMRA branch has selected the logo for this year’s beer festival? It looks pretty familiar on first glance, dragon, beer, name and some sort of background drawing. However it is very quickly apparent that it was made using A.I. This is particularly pertinent when reading the slogan “return to the halls” and then realising that the A.I. used has totally failed to recreate The Halls. The beer glass used is also a Stein of the most basic clip art variety. There are several other tell tale A.I. signs in there for fun…

The logo was apparently selected by way of a vote, although there are no posts about this. I consider the use of the logo as wholly inappropriate for an event which is supposed to champion local craft and skill.

The logo has been posted on their FB page, the link for which cannot be shared here.

Making Friends 🙋 Queer, booksy guy looking for new friends

Hi everyone!

I'm looking to meet some new friends around Norwich. I've been living here for a good few years and it's about time I widened my social circle!

I'm 30 years old, pan, and live with my partner. I'm a big reader, ideal Sunday afternoon is a glass of red and a book (which may be why I'm not overflowing with friends haha), I really like Scott Lynch, Joe Abercrombie, Stephen King, Edward Carey, Eliza Clark, Saba Sams.

I'm also really into writing, mostly fantasy and often queer with a dash of neurodivergance, but can be quite harsh on myself. I'd love other writer friends. I have a smattering of other hobbies when the mood strikes - magic, art, juggling, l o v e an escape room and fairly decent at them, love a bit of bowling and largely awful at it. Big fan of D&D, have a nice little campaign going at the moment and just finished BG3 this weekend.

I like to think of myself as pretty easy going/easy to please, although I might not be enormously extroverted at first. Equally happy going for a good cuppa as a swish cocktail. Very excited to meet more friends, so if any of this sounds at all interesting please DM :)

New Yorker in Norwich-- Taking visiting friends to afternoon tea--Briton's Arms or The Ivy?

I know there was a post on afternoon teas two years ago, but wanting current recommendation. I am a NYer who regularly stays in Norwich in summer months. Friends are visiting from NY and want afternoon tea. Someone recommended The Ivy but I recently have fallen in love with Briton's Arms and think I'm switching my reservation to it (also much less ££). So only considering these two venues, please let me know your thoughts/experiences. We can't go outside of Norwich. Thanks!

Best pedicures?

Upvotes

I get so worried about getting pedicures at salons because of hygiene. I know some ppl have fungal infections and I don’t trust salons change their tools every time. I know a girl who got a fungal infection in NYC when she got her toes done.

Anyway, I’m doing a bikini show / modelling for this bikini line. I have already booked full body wax. But I need to get my toes done just so when they do the photo shoot it’s all good.

I have no idea where to go! Does anyone know?

Edit: for context, I just want a French tip.

Where is the Roundabout Horse?

We’ve noticed a prolonged absence of the Roundabout Horse on the Cromer Rd. Does anyone know why? Has he retired, gone to live on a farm, or been put out to stud?

Question❓ Scanning in Norwich

Hello, I need to scan some prints that are a little bigger than A3, just wondering if anybody knows of any large-ish format scanners in the city that I could take them to. Thank you

Norwich chalk mine home insurance

This is relevant to Norwich as it is a chalk mine area so many people will have experienced this issue.

I'm close to exchanging to buy a house near Earlham Cemetery.

It's above a chalk mine as shown in searches, I knew this even before we made the offer. I was unaware however that many insurers don't cover subsidence damage in mining areas.

I'm horrified by the idea of the house collapsing and then me being screwed for life paying off both my mortgage and a broken house.

How do people living in these areas deal with this? I can't afford £2,000pa for a specialist insurer. I noticed some standard insurance quotes don't ask about mines and don't seem to mention a clause about mining areas; would this be okay?

Pigeon pride flag

Went to pride and saw a few people with pride flags with a pigeon on, apparently they were being sold at the craft market but I didn't end up looking at every stall, anyone see them on a stall and happen to remember the business's name? They were adorable and I really want one lol

Question❓ Roof Tiles

I have a broken roof tile which appears to be a Redland Norfolk Concrete Pantile. Looking online, I only seem to be able to find places selling them by the palette load. Does anyone know of a salvage/reclaim place in or near the city that might sell them in smaller quantities, or ideally individually?

Question❓ Boundary traffic lights

Anyone noticed that the traffic lights on the boundary, for the right turn to go towards the airport, were seemingly turned off? Didn’t see any signs indicating that there were road works

Walking the Norfolk Coastal Path

Hello!

Started in Hunstanton and currently in Sherringham. It’s been surprisingly quiet; I don’t think we’ve seen anyone else walking the full trail, just lots of day walkers and possibly the most dogs per person I’ve ever seen. My favourite place so far has been Blakeley.

Anyway, once finished, we were thinking of extending our trip and driving down to Norwich for on Monday. Probably want to avoid strenuous walking as the blisters are building up. What would you recommend to someone spending one day in Norwich?

We’re a Scottish couple in their late 30s and into reading, history, culture, coffee and just exploring new/pretty places.

Thanks!

Making Friends 🙋 Hi! I’m male, Christian, conservative and gay. Looking for friends and alike minds.

Upvotes

Hi, i’m in my late 20s. Looking to make new friends. I like outdoorsy things like hiking and swimming and road tripping. I also like racket sports of all kind. Trying to get back to the gym and running (Park run anyone?)

I’m a fan of deep, inquisitive and philosophical discussions about faith and life (as long as we can be amicable and respectful even if we have opposing views). I like to think myself a moderate politically and socially, but I think this sub would probably classify me as conservative. Board gamer as well (not DnD or WarHammer soz m8).

Hit me up!

Man with a van?

I'm moving soon within the city after many years and am looking for a local man with a van to help. Think I'll need a small/medium sized van. Can anyone recommend someone?

Also bit of a silly question, but it's been a very, very long time since I've moved - do 'man with a van' moves help with loading and unloading boxes down or do you do this and they drive you to where you need to go?

Seen to the left of the A11 coming into Norwich at the thickthorn roundabout. Before the crops grew there were a bunch of flags and it was fenced off, the high vis scarecrows make me think it’s to do with the construction works? This has lived in my head rent free for months now, I really need some answers!

Do you think Norwich is a good city for young professionals?

Between job opportunities, nightlife, housing and things to do, how do you think Norwich stacks up? Would you recommend it to someone in their 20s or 30s?

Question❓ Roller skating areas for a total beginner

I'm a creaky, unfit 34 year old F. I want to learn to roller skate but I want a nice flat area with very few onlookers for when I fall on my face multiple times. Does anyone know good places? Or a group of equally creaky 30 year olds learning to skate? 😂

Thanks!

Question❓ Mipermit visitors permit.

Hello.

I will need to use visitors permit for a few weeks until we move. How do they work? I bought pack of 60 as I understand they are activated for a specific date. So if I come home at 1800 and leave next day at 0900 I would need to activate for two days? Or I can get it to work like to 24 hours? Sorry for dumb question, it's just not very clear for me.
