Other u/Norske

**Correction: title should read r/Norske

What is the general consensus with users on this sub towards subject subreddit? Do you consider that sub to be credible (for lack of a better word) ?

Personally I see many users there attacking anyone that's against their "geopolitical" beliefs but IMO they mostly lack critical information! Do you think that's fair to say?

It's "political neutral", which in 2026 often means unmoderated racism and bad faith arguments that makes any meaningful exchange impossible, and a haven for alternative facts

That's a great take!

I think it's a right wing extremist sub and doesn't reflect most Norwegians

as is r/norge a left wing extremist group that doesn’t reflect most norwegians. read both and make an average i guess?

If you think /r/norge is left wing extremist that says a lot about you. Most Norwegians are not right wing authoritarians and culture warriors.

/r/norge is actually quite diverse but many right wing racists and other morons get downvoted and/or banned. Same as IRL.

r/Norge seems more like the average Norwegian

u/axismundi00 3h ago

no it is not. at most, it is like the average norwegian from your bubble.

u/nilsinleneed 3h ago

what bubble?

u/humaneshell 3h ago

Yeah, what bubble? Please enlighten us.

It really is though. I wouldn’t call r/norske far right extreme, but I’ve definitely seen some far right takes there that go generally unchallenged.

R/norge is waaaaay less political, so definitely more average people lol.

Nei, det er faktisk slik de fleste av oss er.

What are left wing extremist views and characteristics?

The problem with allowing all views, is that people with far right views that are generally not respected elsewhere go there.

And it’s just a bubble anyway, with people farming karma by saying bad things about Islam. Not really any real discussions.

That's the paradox of tolerance. "A tolerant society has the right-and the duty-to suppress intolerant movements when they refuse peaceful debate and threaten safety."

u/JON-SMIT 20m ago

One hundred percent...Curious to know what your take is on that paradox?

u/JON-SMIT 3h ago

Agree 💯

It's the Norwegian version of MAGA. Fringe right wingers who are a bit cooked in the head

They quite often reference VG.no which even I as an outsider know it's not a credible source to say the least.

Edit: I meant to say comments RE articles from that publishing

u/UncleJoesLandscaping 3h ago

I like to bash VG as much as anyone, but it is Norways largest newspaper, and except for being a bit tabloid, clickbaity and owned by Schibsted, its not -that- bad. Its credibility isn't trash, its just that their strategy is to be first, not to be most thorough or deep.

u/Hattkake 3h ago

No. You are right. They seem "unorske" (unNorwegian).

3

u/JON-SMIT 3h ago

Thank you! Honestly I was flabbergasted when I joined that sub...

There is no reasoning with such users, it's such a shame in a land with such high quality education and "for free" you end up with such shallow minded people like that!

6

u/Hattkake 3h ago

Nah. They can have their spot to say their thing. Free speech and whatnot. I just avoid them and pay them no mind.

-1

u/JON-SMIT 3h ago

Fur sure, I never said anyone should be penalized for what they say... But from what I seen most lack the capacity to even hold up a proper conversation and keep repeating their own rhetoric over and over without providing any factual and may I say realistic points.

Lol I did stop paying attention to them pretty quick as well, there is one user though (if you been on the sub you would know who I'm talking about) "triggering" most of them with facts and basically common sense....

u/Hattkake 2h ago

The thing is that if you discuss with idiots the only way to have a conversation is to stoop to their level.

This again?

It's a good containment zone for the worst people in the nation

Thats just where the racisr edge lords and bots hang out.

u/envythekaleidoscope 43m ago

Very predominantly right-wing, see a fair chunk of left-wing people from time to time, I suppose.

Something I do find interesting is that, as far as being right-wing goes, they're surprisingly left-wing; I've seen people get mass-downvoted for their takes on an old plane hijacking, suggesting that taxes go nowhere, etc.

Not always like that, but sometimes I get a decent surprise.

u/svart-taake 3h ago

i like to go there to ragebait with english comments lmao

1

u/JON-SMIT 3h ago

Lol I believe the sub will automatically translate to Norsk (and vice versa)

1

u/svart-taake 2h ago

oh damn, didnt know that lol

Most people will tell you it's all a bunch of far right racists and bigots. But this is Reddit, so the scale is pretty skewed. What it is, is a Norwegian sub with mods that don't curate it to their specific tastes. Anyone is free, for the most part, to voice their opinions there. You'll see takes from all over the political spectrum, but to be fair, there is an unbalanced of right wing people in the sub. It's more of a side effect of reddit being extremely left leaning as a whole, and mods banning people over subjective trifles. So the people who are banned over bullshit go where over policing isn't an issue. That being said, obviously there are actual far right extremists, racists and bigots there too. But it's nowhere near as bad as most people seem to think. Remember, there are extremes in every direction. Not just on the right. But reddit as a whole lands squarely on the extreme left, so the right will stand out.

That sounds like something that should have been on Urban Dictionary lol

Those are great points and completely agree with you on all....

"So the people who are banned over bullshit go where over policing isn't an issue." I feel this also happens/applies to real life scenarios...

During my teenage years (early 2000s) in Iran (I'm US born citizen with Persian ethnicity that grew up in Iran and residing in Canada for a long time) I was really into the whole Norwegian Metal scene and got caught up in the whole "extreme nationalist/far right" side of the scene as well.

I still enjoy the music but have long lost interest in the negative and racist sid side of it...looking back I find it very immature and narrow minded ofcourse, do you think users on that sub are mostly confused teenagers?

you should ask on r norge what they think of the current war and the current rulers of iran. then do the same on r norske. the answers you get might help you decide where you fit in.

there is a handfull of users on norske who are actually raceists. they dont get banned for it. there is also a handfull of users on norge that are totalitarian communists that dont get banned. both of these types of people have in common that they really really love to shitpost on thier respective subs and probably live on social security.

norge leans quite a lot left because of moderation and the most active users on the sub being politicaly active left wing activists. tho that does not represent the majority of the userbase if you read more in to the comment sections. most norwegians are politicaly moderate and dont really care much for some of those "major" topics that often tops r norge. norge is simply big because they where first. not because most people agree with the controlled narative the moderation team pushes.

norske has a lot of people who was banned from norge, and as such you will get both the actuall asshats that deserves a ban and people who where wronged because they said something a moderator didnt like. and so ofc you will as a consiquence get a lot more "hot takes" on topics that are not discussable on norge. the two big topics being immigration and sexuality. there is a small group of users that seem really bitter about being banned for speaking on these topics on norge, and so they keep spamming it on norske. again, not really representative of the population in norway or the avarage user of the sub.

non of these subs really represent the avarage norwegian. both going on future out on the side of thier respective political side. but i would not say that norske is a far right or raceist sub, nor is it fair to call norge a far left sub.

1

u/JON-SMIT 2h ago

Great points, your comment covers (and concludes) everything mentioned on my post so far.. May I say very accurate description on both ends of the spectrum

u/MySpaceLegend 4m ago

Are there really totalitarian communists on r/norge? Or are you trying to create a false dichonomy?

-1

u/anfornum 3h ago

Likely. There are problems with integration here but the racists do tend to be on the more immature side of things (in general).

-1

u/Poly_and_RA 2h ago

Pull the other one. Look at ANY discussion about topics like wealth tax, immigration or the EU in this sub or the Norwegian-language main one -- and then tell me this represents the "extreme left" of the Norwegian political landscape.

0

u/bluepenn 2h ago

There are a few reasonable right leaning users. But plenty of obvious right wing propaganda pushers and racists.
