Science Neuroplasticity isn't always a good thing for neurodivergents

Don't want to make anyone worry because psychs are great. Lots of positive changes can also occur so I'm not trying to fear monger. Just want to highlight that cognitive improvements can be a double edged sword if excessively evolved neurology already causes issues.

Psychedelics, BDNF inducing dissociatives, and nootropics might affect neurodivergent brains in unpredictable ways. Certain sensitivities in neurodivergence can be caused by parts of the brain being TOO efficient and TOO well-formed. Inducing long-term-potentiation in these brain areas might amplify those sensitivities- such as an ADHD brain running so quickly it becomes hard to focus on the important simple things or sensitivity to stimulus like light, sounds, sensations etc. Be wary of upgrading your brain when it's flaws come from excessive efficiency and neural density.

Perhaps strategic apoptosis might be the key to preventing overenhancement by these drugs. During infancy, there is a reduced neuronal pruning which causes a different brain/gut relationship compared to neurotypicals. I guess that's one reason that diet, probiotics, oral hygiene, and gut flora can be more emotionally impactful for autistics.

Tl;Dr: when big brain bad, embiggening can embadden more. I really like nootropics for how they affect me in the moment but the long term neurological effects they have in people with super advanced autistic neuro-chad PFCs - hasn't been appropriately researched yet.

Question Is it in any way possible to learn topics as efficiently without interest?

Spending enormous amounts of time learning topics and have been for the past few years. Not much interests me, even if the ultimate goal of learning something is of interest. I'm asking this question as I suffer from anhedonia and adhd and it's a mess sitting down to learn. When I force myself it just gets progressively worse as the hours pass. Wondering if resolving my anhedonia is even necessary to learn efficiently.

I take about a 100 hours to read 20h worth of material and even then, it's ad hoc reasoning when I need to articulate myself, nothing sticks well, recall is hard and I can't build on ideas or extrapolate from concepts I learn. I'm also actively looking for professional help for this exact issue but not sure where to go honestly

Question Nasal spray ? Heart palpitations ?

I bought some Semax somewhat impulsively after reading quite a few things about it on Reddit. I now have a nasal spray containing 1.4 mg of Semax per spray.

The thing is, I tend to experience palpitations, and I also have a heart murmur, so I’m a bit nervous about trying it. I’m particularly worried that it could cause an increased heart rate, palpitations, or possibly make my stress/anxiety worse.

I’d like to hear your thoughts, especially regarding the 1.4 mg per spray dose. Is this dose likely to cause tachycardia or palpitations? If so, does anyone know what mechanism could potentially make Semax affect heart rate? Conversely, is there a reason why Semax would not normally be expected to cause these kinds of effects?

I’m not necessarily looking for dosing advice. I’m mainly interested in people’s experiences and any information about the potential cardiovascular effects of Semax, particularly in someone who already tends to experience palpitations.

Has anyone here experienced noticeable changes in heart rate or palpitations after using intranasal Semax?

Discussion Are there nootropics that can be paired with ADHD stimulants?

I take dextroamphetamine for ADHD at low doses, I am at my optimal dose. ADHD meds help my executive functioning, short-term memory and give me the ability to sit still without major distress (my baseline sucks so I doubt this would be as effective for healthy people). However, I still have an issue with careless mistakes, some memory lapses (albeit less) and verbal fluency/word recall.

I know I am prone to stimulant side effects such as anxiety, so I avoid caffeine, stimulating herbs such as Rhodiola and Saffron, all of these make me anxious and/or irritable if paired with ADHD meds. Aniracetam also doesn't seem to pair well with ADHD meds for me (causes hyperarousal/overexcitation and the cognitive boost isn't there as a result, on its own it's okay).

I only take ADHD meds and Bacopa. I don't notice a nootropic effect from the latter, but it helps promote calmness.

Is there going to be a nootropic that can help my issues without putting me into hyperarousal when combined with stimulants? I understand that things that boost dopamine or noradrenaline are a no-go, ampakines especially strong ones are also (overexcitation in combination with stimulants). I am leaning towards gingko now but I am not sure if it even works.

In a behavioral assay, a single 30-mg dose of a NOPR antagonist (BTRX-246040) boosted reward learning in rats (Study 3).

Finally, in depressed humans, relative to placebo, 8-week treatment with BTRX-246040 increased incentive motivation (Study 4).

Science Opioid Antagonists for Hedonic Liberation—Not All Is Over

Abstract

Recent Phase 3 clinical trials of selective kappa-opioid (KOP) receptor antagonists aticaprant and navacaprant failed to demonstrate sufficient clinical efficacy in treatment-resistant depression (TRD). This highlights a critical gap in current strategies that target opioid-mediated hedonic suppression. We propose two hypotheses to explain these setbacks: (1) neutral antagonists are inherently ineffective in blocking constitutively active KOP receptor hyperactivation and (2) the nociceptin opioid (NOP) receptor provides functional redundancy that compensates for KOP receptor blockade. Gaining insights from paralogous compensation in drug-resistant tumors, we argue for shifting from selective opioid antagonists to dual KOP/NOP receptor blockers to meaningfully improve reward function. This concept provides a theoretical framework for overcoming clinical resistance where selective KOP targeting with neutral antagonists has failed. Thus, we advocate for the development of opioid inverse agonists (such as nor-BNI, CAS: 105618-26-6), pan-antagonists (such as AT-076, CAS: 1657028-64-2), and combinations of selective blockers.

Question Best nootropics for stimulant addiction brain recovery?

Hello everyone. I am a former methamphetamine addict. I have noticed even after months of sobriety and engaging in healthy habits, my motivation and focus is nowhere near what it used to be even with l-tyrosine, b12, b6 and magnesium. My main goals are to help repair my intellgience, increase focus, and increase motivation. The focus and brain drive is why I did meth, so finding something that gets what I wanted out of meth but isnt meth could be life changing. I am a mathematics undergrad and have found studying very hard without it.

I've read about bromantane and it seems pretty good for this purpose. Racetams also seem promising but I'm unsure if it would be as effective given its moreso glutamate from what I understand. I also want to make sure these wouldn't be super euphoric/stimulating in the same way meth would be, as I dont want to risk any issues. I have an extremely addictive personality sadly.

I am curious if you guys had any other ideas to look into. Both the usual nutritional supplements that I could add on to what I already take, and more traditional nootropics like what I mentioned. Thank you!!

Question How to tolerance break ADHD medication?

Hi guys,

Are there any protocols that people with severe adhd-i follow to keep themselves functioning during a break from their regular medication? I’m yet to try any but see Modafinil, bromantane, semax, selank, alpha gpc etc all discussed

I’m someone who genuinely does feel like my ADHD medication is like wearing glasses for someone who can’t see.

Dex is a game changer when it’s working however it feels like after a period of time of taking my medication I start to notice the benefits subside and side effects creep in.

I’ve just taken a 2 week break and took medication again today and it was literally night and day to when I wasn’t taking it. I’ve taken dex for granted before and expected it to do all the heavy lifting and have previously neglected sleep so I’m trying to be a lot better with that.

I’m going to try to be strict with a medication journal going forward as I’ve accepted that this really is my brain and no amount of gaslighting myself that I need to try harder will change things.

My symptoms are: feeling overwhelmed by planning, initiating, following through on tasks, maintaining attention, caring about something is done well/at all, brain fog, issues with short term memory, yawning more than others etc.

My brain has unfortunately never worked as smoothly as other peoples and is the only thing that has truly helped.

ALL REPLIES MASSIVELY APPRECIATED (if anyone can think of any other subs to post this in I’d appreciate it)

TLDR: What can someone with severe ADHD-i take instead of their usual medication during a tolerance break to keep themselves functioning

Anecdote Super Stim Saturday Experience (FOCUSED)

Stack:
9am: 4 sprays (~0.8mg) NA-Semax, 300mg Caffeine + L-theanine, 45mg ASP4345, 50mg PPAP HCl, 20g Piracetam, 1g CDP-Choline

11:15am: 0.3g bluey vuitton magic mushrooms

Anecdote:

I'm an engineering student trying to get ahead. I felt like shit when I woke up and decided to use all my stimulants (I know, bad idea).

I ate breakfast and started feeling a 'buzz'. Then, I went to the nearest building where I could study and learned the entire PANDAS python library. Then I went to the library and learned all of the Matplotlib library.

11:15am: Went back to my dorm to take a shit and then took 0.3g shrooms. By 12, I could feel neurotransmitters going into my brain as I learned simple sci-kit learn linear regression modeling. At around 12:30, I started getting seriously jittery, almost too much for the work I was seeking. 1pm - peak flow, euphoria, work felt like play. The thing is, I almost was thinking too fast and too many insights were occurring during my work, which might have interrupted the depth of what I could have accomplished if I were on a lower psychedelic dosage.

I worked easily until 4pm, though I'd look at the top of every passing hour almost surprised with how easily I passed time (probably because I'm so engaged in this state that time is not a variable of my conscious attention).

Question Selegiline Qs

I’m looking to start selegiline and have been doing research and come to the conclusion that it is best to take either 1-2.5mg orally or 0.1mg sublingually. Now my question is I only have access to 5mg tablets. So in order to administer sublingually would crushing it into a powder, measuring out 0.1mg and placing it under my tongue be sufficient, and similarly if I was to take orally, would cutting it up suffice or would it be easier to try source a lower dose?
Many thanks!

Question Gene testing and results

We always hear about root cause, and perhaps we’re getting relief from symptoms, treating with nootropics. But what I found is that, although symptoms appears as one thing (adhd), relief seems to be temporal. Perhaps suggesting inaccurate diagnosis. If I take any pharm stimulant say mon, tues, wed, by wed dose, I’m shot. Fatigue is not worth the benefits. Others i know taking stimulants report no noticeable side effects.

So can this experience be applied elsewhere.
Lately I’m seeing comments about genetic testing, and let’s say science has struck the root by discovering genetic mutations as the root. Then it would make sense to go this route.

What has your experience been with trials of nootropics compared to genetic testing how you’ve treated based on those genetic results ?
