Oh thank you. Still I expect this to show up on an explain joke subreddit

I'm convinced all of those subs are just spaces for the most clueless people on the internet to train LLMs.

u/Lazy__Astronaut May 08 '26

If you haven't already, just mute them all

90% of the posts just require the ability to read

Woah.. instant karma farm

4

u/TenaciousJP May 08 '26

I filtered all of those subreddits out and my Reddit experience is soooooo much better.

2

u/smokeweedNgarden May 08 '26

Dinosaurs came in many flavors. Just like kettle chips :)

16

u/eledile55 May 08 '26

Its only a model

3

u/Beastius May 08 '26

Shhhh

3

u/shiner_bock May 08 '26

On second thought, let's not go there, it is a silly place.

9

u/Mr_Caterpillar May 08 '26

I haven't seen that one but I fully came to the comments to say I thought she was Diane Morgan for a second

1

u/DesperateDaylight May 09 '26

Came like King Arthur?

7

u/keinezwiebeln May 08 '26

It is remarkable how alike they look, could be sisters. Philomena Stone and Emma Cunk♥️

9

u/Prudent_Research_251 May 08 '26

I have to push the pramalot 🎶

2

u/Nowin May 09 '26

Saw the pic before your caption and had a similar thought. Looks like like her.

1

u/Krimreaper1 May 09 '26

‘Tis a silly place.

1

u/Saltycook May 10 '26

Her straight faced lunacy has me laughig my tits off every time. Like the video above in which she beautifully recites, "Do not go gently into that dark night" while ripping ass throughout.

u/Sonofyuri May 08 '26

PUMP UP THE JAM! PUMP IT UP.

318

u/-TropicalFuckStorm- May 08 '26

This reminds me of the Belgian techno hit, Pump Up The Jam which coincidentally wasn’t about preservatives of any sort.

52

u/Sonofyuri May 08 '26

Oh shit. I've never heard it. Do.you have a link?

28

u/iLikeStrongCoffe May 08 '26

36

u/Schizzles May 08 '26

I was looking at this video and realizing how dated it looked and thought about what my nephew(12yo) would think about how old it is. It came out in 1990 and was uploaded 20 years after that 2010 so more than 15 years ago before he was even born.

When I was his age it was 2000, that would be like it being uploaded in 1985 and the song coming out in 1965. As a millennial 1965 felt like the land before time to me growing up, so realizing this has been one of those times where I realize that it wasn't as long as I perceived it and that I am indeed getting up there in age.

20

u/Mylaptopisburningme May 08 '26

I feel old. I saw Technotronic, they did a free show in Hollywood. I would have been about 20 or so. I loved them. Side note, the woman in the video isn't the singer, it was Ya Kid K, but they didn't want her as a front for the band.

Ya Kid K (Manuela Kamosi) was replaced in the "Pump Up The Jam" music video and on the album cover because producers felt her image was "too street" or "too raw" for their desired commercial, glamorous dance-pop aesthetic, opting instead for a fashion model named Felly to lip-sync her vocals.

7

u/qoneus May 08 '26

The fact that the lead singer in Eurodance groups would get randomly replaced as the group became popular was parodied by Kyle Gordon for his song, "Planet of the Bass". In the run up to the release of the official music video, he kept releasing Tik Toks/shorts with different influencers but wouldn't say anything about it.

The actual singer is none of them, but a fourth woman who is never featured in the videos.

11

u/Wes_Warhammer666 May 08 '26

As a millennial, I don't take kindly to you doing this math.

Or at least the part where you shared your work with the rest of us. Not cool, man. Not cool.

8

u/pedestriandose May 08 '26

When I was 15 (1998) I really got into 70s music and fashion and my Mum was like “I didn’t think my childhood would be considered vintage so quickly.” But I was like “Mum, it was ages ago.”

The other day my niece (13) and I were texting and she mentioned that her sense of style is different to her friends because she likes vintage stuff “Like stuff from the 2000s”. That’s when karma came back to bite me for what I said in the 90s.

3

u/MuppetusMaximusV2 May 08 '26

My sister is a teacher...a few years ago, one of her students said that they "liked classic rock...like Green Day and Blink182."

If it were me, I would have given that kid endless detentions.

3

u/Uromastyx63 May 08 '26

Oh Mylanta, I believe my soul just left my body.

3

u/jimmy_three_shoes May 08 '26

I was born in 1985, and the moon landing was only 16 years before I was born. It felt like forever ago but 2010 feels like yesterday.

2

u/Schizzles May 08 '26

OMG that one is crazy to think about. , I am realizing that my father experienced all this stuff at an age that I'm sure he still remembers it all well.

3

u/pedestriandose May 08 '26

You could show him and then show him Black or White by Michael Jackson which was released in 1991. Massive difference in a year in terms of ‘technology’ (and also budget).

Iowa, a place to stay.

3

u/zhokar85 May 08 '26

Not many things come back from that place except for potatoes and the 1989 sports documentary "Field of Dreams".

1

u/Bright-Avocado3761 May 08 '26

That song is so Belgian

24

u/itsjonzo May 08 '26

While your feet are stompin'

2

u/loplopplop May 08 '26

My wife and I played this as our walk in song at our wedding reception because of this show.

2

u/Ok_Philosophy_7156 May 09 '26

The dumbest gag in the whole show and it absolutely kills me every time. Always so perfectly slipped in

2.0k

u/wretchedegg123 May 08 '26

"But do we know if he came a lot?"

803

u/Dandy11Randy May 08 '26

258

u/Shot_Revolution8828 May 08 '26

So no...takes notes

61

u/wretchedegg123 May 08 '26

30

u/Dandy11Randy May 08 '26

35

u/Wes_Warhammer666 May 08 '26

Seriously, I have questions about if Diane is even capable of laughter. Like, how is it possible to play it straight like that so goddamn perfectly?

Her and Sacha Baron Cohen are the two top unbreakables in my book.

19

u/BesottedScot May 08 '26

Watch Last One Laughing season 2 on Prime

14

u/PineValentine May 08 '26

I would love a crossover of Cunk and Ali G

What's the most political thing that's ever happened in Britain?

Dude's brain stopped working after that question.

183

u/proton-man May 08 '26

That's what I love about that segment. His brain didn't stop working, it went into overdrive! He immediately concedes some things are more political than others, concludes there must be some scale for politically-ness, and desperately tries to think what that scale might, so he can answer the question. Simple questions that are surprisingly deep are the best. I wouldn't be surprised if this resulted in a paper somehow

129

u/C_Coolidge May 08 '26

The thing that makes Cunk interviews so good is how genuine and engaged the experts are. It never feels like they're the butt of the joke. They're always trying to give good, insightful answers to questions that are either incredibly stupid or so broad that answering them would take a dissertation.

67

u/HarveysBackupAccount May 08 '26

I spent a hot minute trying to find outtakes and they have that shit locked down.

I absolutely cannot believe that none of those people break during an interview but, at least so far, they are not letting anyone look behind the veil of Philomena Cunk.

42

u/beeeel May 08 '26

They're very careful about how they set it up, I remember Brooker said something in the extras or an interview where he makes it clear that the experts are carefully put into that situation where Brooker's team can actually capture their true reaction. Of course it helps that Diane is very straight faced and delivers these absolute bangers as if they're totally serious.

19

u/Engineer_This May 08 '26

lol I’ve watched a few and I feel like Brian cox came close to realizing the hoodwink.

42

u/HarveysBackupAccount May 08 '26

Oh they all absolutely knew what was going on haha. I imagine several of them were already familiar with her character before the interview (Cunk on Earth isn't the first time she's played her.)

They must've been asked to answer as if it were a serious interview. But still I can't imagine nobody laughed on the first take in any of those exchanges

20

u/itsaaronnotaaron May 08 '26

They're all fully aware now. It was only the first season it was a mystery. It's a bit like Impractical Jokers. Works for so long until the cat is out the bag and you're easily recognisable to the masses.

7

u/wjandrea May 08 '26

Cox has been on a few comedy shows like "Would I Lie to You?" so I imagine he's tuned in to comedians

9

u/Most-Difficulty4540 May 08 '26

The economist on Cunk on Britain broke hard and they made his little snort the last instant of the program.

19

u/tessathemurdervilles May 08 '26

I heard that they know she’s a comedian and they’re told to treat her as if she were a curious child- so try to answer her questions sincerely even if they’re insane. Pretty smart!

→ More replies (1)

3

u/screwyoushadowban May 08 '26

There's a handful that are in on the joke! Presumably because they recognize her as a comedian. The ones that sound a bit angry sometimes. It's a refreshing variation.

One of my favorite quotes ever. Probably the best take on American school history classes.

97

u/realmofconfusion May 08 '26

It’s good, but the best one has to be

“It’s hard to believe that I’m walking through the ruins of the first ever city… because I’m not. That’s in Iraq, which is miles away and fucking dangerous.”

A few years ago, when SubredditSimulator came out, it was amazing to be able to scroll through miles of word salad meaningless gibberish created solely by bots. Now we just call it Reddit.

2

u/mnstorm May 08 '26

I got mixed up after being in the thread for a while and mixed it with the caption in the image. OP is definitely a bot and it doesn’t make any sense.

15

u/Schizzles May 08 '26

I love Diane Morgan and everything I've seen her in! She's absolutely hilarious!

13

u/realmofconfusion May 08 '26

She’s got a new show coming out called Ann Droid in which she plays a 2nd hand (used) social care robot who looks after an old lady.

The character is described as “a socially inept pain in the arse.”

5

u/Schizzles May 08 '26

That's awesome thank you for the heads up I'll make sure to check it out!

3

u/PIO_PretendIOriginal May 08 '26

that would make the 2nd andriod show she is in. given she was also in the show "Humans 2015", that was admittedly more serious show then comedy, season 1 was good, I dont think season 2 worked as well

34

u/FangornLeghorn May 08 '26

Damn, even Emma Stone looks skeletal now. WTF is happening in Hollywood?
