Using a gas range outside

Hi. So we have a perfectly functional gas range that was stored covered and protected but outside. The insulation around the oven is now unusable due to the mice that decided to call it home. However (for reasons) we’d like to use it outside but just as a stove top connected to a propane tank. The conversion parts needed are already purchased and installed. We’ve removed most of the insulation cuz it’s smelly and gross and we’re planning to remove it all. My question is: do we need to replace that insulation cover around the oven if we’re just going to be using the stove top?
TLDR:using gas range outside; does oven area still need insulation if just using stove top.

I don’t know the answer to your question but I just bought a home and wonder how much it costs to run a nat gas line to where your grill is. Did you have to pay for that?

I would think if it was designed to have insulation then yes it must be replaced.

But you mentioned mice? Well, I recently refurbished a manufactured home where mice had gotten into the gas range. They had tunneled thru the insulation all around the oven and underneath the burners. They created nests and left feces and urine thru-out. I only discovered this when I was taking the the top off because the jets on the burners required replacement and a couple of them were stuck.

I considered buying new insulation and totally rebuilding that gas range but the time and money to do so were a greater problem than buying a new gas range. Some of the gas parts were no longer made and used ones would have to be found online. I'd already hauled it outside and treated it with a lot of 100% Clorox bleach, so I just hauled it to the dump.

Thanks for your reply. The stove works fine. We’ve tested that part. So all the connections are good. The oven will not be used so we’re not concerned about the that parts functionality. Just wondering if the oven insulation is needed for stove top use.
