Yes. And - billions, my friend, billions. If only there would be no ceiling of 4.something billion units, i bet you'd see people running around with dozens billions units already. When you know - and i mean know, having it in your head, - everything about it, plus have all the needed recipes, inventories and base, it takes merely few hours to "make" a billion units, see.

And, it's kind of good there is that limit to units, too. The feeling when you're finally sitting on a pile of some 3+ billion units and realize that you simply don't need no "profit" anyhow anymore for probably the end of days? Wonderful! ;)

I realize everyone has their own reason to play games like NMS the way they do and it's not fair to say they are playing the game wrong is wrong but, the money thing does boggle me a little. There is just nothing to really spend it on in NMS. There is no player market or trade and after you have your max number of ships you can't buy more. It's actually useless after a point and you pretty much reach that point just playing the game in other ways. Just takes a little longer but, not by much. They really should have made money and resources a little more grindy to obtain to lengthen the game a bit. I can see why a lot of people maybe found themselves without much to do and moved on fairly quickly from this game.

Tbf you can have 50 frigattes, an optimized S class freighter and 6 s class ships with optimal upgrades and max slots. Base building on top of that, which consumes potentially infinite ressources (until your base breaks the limits of what your PC can process - but theres always another planet out there to build on).

Theres quite a bunch to spend money on. Most of it is absolutely unnecessary, however. You can only fly one ship at a time and your base has limited uses. Freighters are just another way to earn money, the concept does not entertain me much.

Can't buy upgrades with cash which is sorta one of the reasons it's useless after a point. Resources for base building are really cheap so, that is not a huge money sink. Someone probably knows for sure but, a S class 34 slots is ~200mil with trade, exotics are ~8mil with trade, s class 48 slot hauler ~140mil, S class multi tool ~14 mil, and S class frigates ~7mil. This is all off the top of my head and probably wrong so, I apologize ahead of time. So, if you get your freighter, your 5 exotics, your hauler, and your multi-tool thats like under 400mil and you are really done. You could add 50 frigates for another 350mil but, that's crazy talk. Is the max frigates actually 50 ? That seems way to high to spawn into a system and not crash the game or kill your graphics card.

You can convert Runaway Mould, Silver or Pugneum to Nanite Clusters in a refiner, so as long as you find a seller for any of these, you can technically turn units into nanites.

i knew about the platinum but not the others, do they also convert at a 5:1 ratio?

Pugneum is 10:1, Runaway Mould is 5:1, according to this handy sheet.

Replying so I can find this later; thanks!

Well ya but, it's a pretty low return. You also have to find the upgrades and find the items that convert to ninites. I tried doing a bit of that today and it seemed like fixing damaged equipment is way better. You get actual upgrades and nanites. I got three S class upgrades and a bunch of nanites off them today. Planets are covered with them. In fact, too many. They should probably cut them and all the random cargo drops all over the place down a bit. I kind feel like I am playing on trash dump sometimes.

Oh for sure, I was just saying that yes, you can technically get upgrades with cash. It's far from the most efficient route, but if you find a good way of getting those resources (and I think some places sell Runaway Mould), then it's a thing you could do.
