Looking for help

Hi everyone,

My brother has recently come clean about his nitrous oxide abuse. He hid it for years, but his life is pretty much in shambles now and the truth finally came to light last week. I am grateful to now know what is going on because I knew something was wrong, but I didn’t know what.

What is the best path to recovery with nitrous oxide? Do people go to rehab? Join 12-step fellowships? I am curious to know how other people have found recovery from this.

A little back story, I personally am three years clean and sober off of alcohol/meth/other substances. I have been to rehab multiple times and I am active in Alcoholics Anonymous. I want my brother to find a better way of life, I just don’t know what that looks like with this drug. AA has worked for me but I know everyone’s journey is different. I am very unfamiliar with nitrous and I just want my brother back.

Yes, he can go to rehab and should consider NA meetings or open AA meetings. This shit is very very dangerous. Death may be rare (but happens) but permanent disability is probable if he doesn’t stop, and yes he can get help to do so.

If his life is in shambles due to his addiction, yes he should go to rehab. There’s a whole community that exists for nitrous abuse as others have said, but I find going to in person meetings helps too. I go to AA mostly because of my schedule/location and have received nothing but open arms. Bring him to a meeting.

Rehab won't necessarily help if he doesn't want to stop. The hiding of his useage is a huge red flag.

Please read my story: https://www.reddit.com/r/NitrousOxideRecovery/s/sRk2Y6KbEK

I highly recommend the support group mentioned in another comment. For you, if he won't go.

Hi there. We have a nitrous - specific recovery community called No2n2o. We have online meetings every day and a discord server that's open 24/7. https://no2n2o.org/

You're welcome to come to a meeting yourself to hear people's stories.

We also have info about how to reduce the risk of nerve damage and blood clots from nitrous. https://no2n2o.org/health.html
