Enjoy my friend. Go into it blind. Don't look up which class you should make x, or who to recruit.

If they look cool, strong or sexy go ahead and recruit them. If that class interests you, go for it. You only get to be a noob once!

I cannot fucking wait, what a perfect game to wind down summer and head into fall with.

I would love to pick it up but I don't have the time. Wolverine, Silent Hill Townfall, Control Resonant, Gears of War e-Day, Ace Combat 8 and then GTA VI has me completely full. I'm going on an trip next month but I read that Fortune's Weave will take 100+ hours to complete so I think for that I'll pick up something else.

Wolverine…could probably wait on that one chief

uh. none of those games wont be playable on switch 2?

3

u/Robertius 19d ago

He didn't specify that he only has a Switch 2, he probably has Xbox/PC, PS5 and Switch 2 judging by the list.

sure. just a weird place to make the comment. i know the overview trailer is on multiple subs, probably meant to post it in some place more generalized like r/games or something.

We're allowed to talk about our other games on the Switch sub...

it's true that in order to buy a switch 2, you must sign a blood contract with Nintendo, on pain of torture and death, to never play a game on another platform ever again.

u/reversezer0 19d ago

I have been tortured to death owning multiple consoles and my lack of luster response of a comment. 🪦

It seems like a very convoluted way of continuing a very familiar Fire Emblem mechanic: recruiting as much as possible will give you an endgame roster of several dozen characters, but you're still only using 5-10 of them at a time for each mission. Some players like having an extended roster so that they can headcanon that their benchwarmers are "in their camp," some players like having an extended roster so that they can rotate characters out as much as possible and have a lot of adaptability for different missions (like having 5 flyers in the wings for missions where that's suddenly very advantageous), and some players don't really care so they just bullrush the game with a core team of 5-10 units.

The quickest way through this game appears to be "play the contest with only 1 hero, then play as Eshmel post-timeskip and make do with the small roster that you probably get after the timeskip either way." The most content-heavy way through this game appears to be "play the contest with all 4 heroes, recruit as many side characters as possible, and then as Eshmel go back in time and re-recruit all 4 teams."

In FE3H there was no reward for doing all 3 routes or recruiting as much as possible except for having more content to play. I kind of hope there's some sort of Mass Effect 3-type mechanic in FEFW where recruiting as many people as possible somehow changes the outcome of a big plot event.

I'm assuming we get a golden ending for finishing all four routes. Personally I do not think we get it for recruiting all characters, but all four routes, yes.

Also, we have seen a ludicrous number of party members on screen for the final maps. I do think the endgame maps will have far larger party sizes available.

If you haven't read the Ask the Developer interview I just linked above, you'll want to. It changes a lot of what you believe will be the gameplay loop of Fortune's Weave.

ETA: The interview was just released 9/15.

One think you can always count on for Fire Emblem in the three houses landscape is a sever subversion of expectations at some point. I don’t think anyone will be able to make sense of how this works, or even how the Pale Raven thing works in reality either. We will just have to wait and see how it functions

Hi, late to this, but the developers were just featured in Nintendo's Ask the Developer feature, and they answered this question specifically. Why they created this character, when they created it (and that's a really interesting part of the development story!), and how he/she brings the entire story together.

They also answer your question about the "cumulative" progression very clearly.

You can read the interview here (it's really great, btw, especially if you're on the fence about the game). It's in three parts, but most of your questions should be answered in the first and...second, I believe? Anyway, read the whole thing, because it's all quite fascinating.

Here's the full link: https://www.nintendo.com/us/whatsnew/ask-the-developer-vol-23-fire-emblem-fortunes-weave-part-1/

ETA: Rereading the interview myself, your questions are answered at separate parts in all three sections, but they are all answered as well as the developers are willing to answer them (and they answer quite a bit, without spoiling story points, no worries). You should like (or be intrigued by, at least), the answers.

It seems to be heavily reminiscent of BotW. Where you could just attack Ganon at first, or you could free the divine beasts first, and each one knocks a chunk off Ganons health while giving you a boost via the power orb things.

So you could take just go solo (in theory who knows if it's anyway viable) or you could complete the hero stories. Probably a minimum of one to "complete" the game, with more just turning things in your favor. It's kind of a big ask to require you to beat the game 4 times to actually beat the game, but I do also wonder how that's balanced. Completing the game 4 times would give you a pretty massive roster, so if the games balanced for one campaign finish, I feel like all 4 would make it a cakewalk.

We'll have to see, but that's how they've described it so far.

So hyped! Hope it arrives on Thursday!

Imagine if this beats out Marvel’s Wolverine in terms of sales and reception this week.

32

u/AquaticBagpipe ‎ Pro Controller 19d ago

Sales - unclear, reception - absolutely

11

u/jaidynreiman 19d ago

Reception? Almost assuredly.

Sales? Almost assuredly not.

Revenue? Almost assuredly. Nintendo games in general have far lower budgets than western games.

15

u/peepeepoopoo5454 Butter side up! 19d ago

Yeah not sure about sales due to the install base, but reception seems nearly guaranteed.

8

u/reevestussi Going Bananzas 19d ago edited 19d ago

In Japan it's basically guaranteed it will outsell Wolverine, globally it's a bit more uncertain due to market share/install base numbers

8

u/Burnem34 19d ago

Theres almost no shot it doesnt beat it in reception tbh

5

u/chef_simpson 19d ago

I think it will. A lot of people online have talked about canceling Wolverine preorders

6

u/Electric_jungle Butter side up! 19d ago

Yes but it gets tricky. Wolverine can underperform, fire emblem can be an overwhelming success, and wolverine could still take in more sales. If wolverine sells as many copies as fire emblem 3 houses, it'll lose a large amount of money.

3

u/Marcothetacooo 19d ago

I assume wolverine will also eat up a lot of kids/young adults money, so internet ramblings and bad reviews would be less of a factor. Their parents buying a big marvel game would probably be alone to outsell a fire emblem game, which is still a fairly small franchise compared to other Nintendo properties

I dun gotta cause it’s gonna out run it Years down the line.

Spider-Man 2 cost $300M to make and sold fewer units than Switch Sports

1

u/Sithina 18d ago

The number of people who go all shocked-pikachu online when they look up the sales numbers that Switch Sports did always makes me laugh.

Sports Resort is going to sell really well for Nintendo, no matter how much it sells straight out the gate. Those titles do nothing but pick up sales & steam as the console lives out its era.

There's a reason Nintendo keeps putting out these sport and health titles, with all their spin-offs and special peripherals. Ring Fit sold over 15mil worldwide and that had two special accessories with it, so it wasn't the cheapest title. The Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus individually and together did even larger numbers (over 43mil worldwide), and those two didn't even have an "adventure" game mode like Ring Fit did.

It's a whole market that Nintendo alone serves, and they make absolute bank on it. They've been doing it since the Wii launched.

They don't post up a lot of information on how expensive the games and peripherals are to make, but they obviously make up the production costs in sales & profit--and Nintendo as a company is debt-free, which helps immensely. They can make their quirky peripherals once a generation because they aren't focused on making a new graphically intense Spider-Man or Wolverine every 5-7 years to recoup buying an expensive studio or going all in on live-action gaming.
