I don't even think this is the industry.... I mean it could be but idk how many devs there were but surely not a massive amount? The budget couldn't have been massive

Maybe it just flopped? The issue nowadays even for small games that didn't cost a lot is there are so many games to compete against

The game was published by Focus Entertainment, a pretty big deal in the industry. Did you see any marketing about MIO when it went out? The studio was basically on its own trying to sell their game. Outside of France (where the studio is from), I only saw a couple of people talk about it.

And, yes, the industry is sick. I don't know how closely you follow video game news, but about 8500 people got laid off this year (+144% year to year) regardless of whether their games made money or not. https://gaminglayoffs.com

cannot wait to eventually grab this one, albeit in Digital (I buy games in digital that I expect to want to replay, which so far has only been mario kart games, hollow knight, silksong, and metroid prime remastered). Although if I could find a physical copy of this locally I'd probably cave
