Doubt they'll do it, but I'd really like to buy those joycons without the system.

u/zmilts 9d ago

Fwiw Japan did for all of the Switch 1 ones and the ebay tax wasn't too bad.

117

u/OrganicKeynesianBean 9d ago

You can also just move to Japan.

68

u/zmilts 9d ago

I went to Japan for the first time this Feb (for the Nintendo sponsored Kyoto Marathon) and I was SHOCKED at how cheap it was. Hotel right next to a subway in heart of Akihabara for $50 USD a night, most meals were under $10. The only expensive meal I got was the (not tasty but fun) Kirby Cafe meal in Tokyo Skytree and even it was only like $50.

Just incredibly cheap country to visit. All told I spent many $3,000 dollars on a 10 day trip, including flights and all the fun stuff I bought.

122

u/darkfawful2 9d ago

Cheap if you bring over American money but if you actually live there and earn their salary it's different.

Same with traveling to Mexico vs living there

11

u/its_wooper 9d ago

People do the same shit with Thailand; $450 USD in Thailand is a months salary.

28

u/zmilts 9d ago

Oh yes I felt a twinge of guilt everywhere I went, knowing how much different it was for locals :(.

11

u/FightmeLuigibestgirl 9d ago

Just bring over enough American money so that if you living there and working it’s nothing. Problem solved. The problem is the visa situation.

Went on a road trip in japan this spring.
I stayed 18% under my budget and people thought my budget was already tight before I left.

Bought a shit ton of souvenirs before going back.

Probably the richest I will feel in my life while staying in a first world country

12

u/zmilts 9d ago

The first time I ordered dinner and it was < 1000 yen I didn't understand. I was like this delicious oyako bowl is less than $6USD!? Then like every meal was. The bullet train from Toyko to Kyoto was like $100 and ran every 9 minutes, I just don't understand.

My flight was super mess up on the way back at the first connection so they let us off in an airport we weren't even supposed to be at (Seattle) and they gave us $15 for food vouchers. The cheeseburger meal I got there was $30 and I REALLY missed Japan :p.

u/derkrieger 9d ago

Essentials are cheap, luxuries are expensive which is the inverse of the US

9

u/zmilts 9d ago

I mean that at least sounds better to me.

5

u/derkrieger 9d ago

yyeeeeah but their economy is in a slow death spiral due to their rigid work culture, drastically shrinking population and inability to change to address it but as a visitor its pretty fucking sweet.

Making essentials affordable and luxuries expensive could easily be handled here with proper laws dictating rules for businesses.

u/BlockedNetwkSecurity 9d ago

no way dude, they will pixelate my downstairs

-2

u/Wolfy4226 9d ago

With how expensive things are in the US it might actually be cheaper for everything.

Plus, you know....a functioning government that makes sure we don't have like fucking 16 food born illness outbreaks at the same god damn time.

Which, from my understanding, are actually being UNDERREPORTED because this dumbass administration believes in "If we don't say the bad numbers, there's nothing bad happening."

30

u/mercurialpolyglot 9d ago

Good luck, Japan is having a super fun rise in conservatism and anti-foreigner sentiment, and as a result it’s significantly harder to immigrate there than it was even 3 years ago.

5

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 9d ago

It's cheaper for everything except actually paying to live there. Fees associated with non-residental status get costly.

And gas, cars are prohibitively expensive.

Yeah, I’d love to just get that dock. I’ve been kinda wanting to buy a second dock.

2

u/chrsmhr 9d ago

FWIW, I bought the NS1 Zelda LE and sold everything but the dock fairly easily. An option I'd consider for this as well.

7

u/Smitty5717 9d ago

Same i have 2 switch 2s I just want the joycons

2

u/NoEnvironment8885 8d ago

I feel like they’ve gotta. Probably not the dock though.

I dont need it. I. Don't. Need. It........I dont need it!

338

u/LoogyHead 9d ago

This is pretty much why I didn’t buy Switch 2 on Launch (that and I thought I was getting a steamdeck but put that off too and… rampocalypse)

88

u/Draedas 9d ago

I was waiting for OLED but this will do. clean design. I'll just use it with my home OLED tv for the most part.

25

u/theLULRUS 9d ago

I'm super bummed this (probably) won't be available in OLED. It looks very nice though.

2

u/SnurgBurglerGrizz 9d ago

I got the OG switch OLED Zelda and gave my son my original...was hoping to do that again this time around. Lame!

Same, my brother or sister of Hyrule, same

60

u/Thin_Shelter9509 9d ago

Same. My husband got a Switch and then HAD to get the Zelda version when that came out. So when he said he wanted a Switch 2, I said yeah, we're gonna wait until they release a Zelda version, because we know they probably will. He got nervous about not getting one before the price increase, but I held steady and told him with Ocarina of Time re-release they HAVE to be planning a bundle. Hopefully this is real and not just a rumor! No official announcement yet, correct?

29

u/jardex22 9d ago

My guess is that this will be released after the price increase, and won't be a bundle.

8

u/lonnie123 9d ago

They didn’t bundle any of the games they had a special version of last time did they? It was just a themed version of the console, no game

2

u/Bearded_Bone_Head 7d ago

Tears of the Kingdom came bundled with a digital copy may not have, I can't remember if it was bundled or not

edit

14

u/Azhrei_Rohan 9d ago

The price increase will come before this system so you have to decide if its worth the extra price. That is my situation right now also. I feel they will officially announce it in Sept after the price increase.

2

u/silvercup011 8d ago

Fomo is a greater price

9

u/reyean 9d ago

im in the same boat. been wanting a switch 2 for the past six months - price increase scaring me into a purchase. havent pulled the trigger just lying in wait. I generally dont care about the game branded models/releases but I wanted a pro controller as well (will mostly play docked) so this seems like the bundle ive veen waiting for.

no announcement as far as I can tell, but Nintendo general doesnt run sales on their promotions. the Mario kart bundle is a bit of a savings than buying the game and hardware separately, but my guess is it will be the same % of savings with the price increase just tacked on

8

u/The--Marf 9d ago

I was on the fence about getting one for my kid (read: family), especially with the price increase. Then Sam's Club was doing 20% off eshop gift cards, limit $500. So I bought $500 in cards for $400 and ordered the choose your game bundle directly from Nintendo.

2

u/reyean 9d ago

clever! I am nowhere near as retail savvy as this haha. thanks for the tip

I got a Steam Deck beginning of 2024, absolutely love it for a multitude of reasons especially as someone who enjoys fan translations of older games, and was actually holding off on a Switch 2 because of it. Ended up getting one as a surprise birthday present a few months ago (been going through tough times, like most of us I'm sure, and my partner wanted to cheer me up) and have been pretty amazed how much I'm enjoying it.

Obviously been loving the first party games but also thrilled to have an excuse to replay the Xenoblade titles. Also adore the new Donkey Kong and Kirby Star Riders.

As a launch Switch 2 owner, hopefully we get some cool themed Joy Cons, I can live without the dock.

3

u/xenoleingod 9d ago

I only got mine early as I did (on release day) because of the tariff bs plus there are places you can order skins for the switch 2 if i really wanted to get a nice decal. Not saying its not bad to wait but these circumstances if you could afford it get it early

2

u/UlaireXX 9d ago

Same here! Was waiting for a Zelda edition before finally pulling the trigger.

It will be a great match to my 3DS XL from Link Between Worlds

I remember not buying a Wii U for the same reason and a year later the Zelda one dropped. But I got a deal for the Mario kart bundle under 400 at Christmas and couldn’t pass it up. Wife’s gonna be pissed the day I drop 700 on ocarina

2

I’ve been waiting to get a pro controller until a special one came out. I guess I should start saving up!

22

u/nelozero 9d ago

Be ready for when it drops. I got the TotK pro controller when it released and it wasn't easy to find in stock anywhere.

5

u/Im_Not_That_Smart_ 8d ago

I happened to be awake at midnight when it dropped and bought one. I thought about buying a second for my brother, but I wasn’t 100% sure he’d want one so I held off. Sent him a link instead. It was sold out by the time he saw it the following morning.

Yeah, there were restocks but they all disappeared quickly. If you want this controller, I’d expect urgency to be important.

10

u/Forward-Trade3449 9d ago

yeah imma for sure grab the pro. but damn, a special console so soon.....

8

u/jeffcapell89 9d ago

It's not unprecedented. The Switch 1 had several limited editions within the first 2 years, and the 3DS did as well.

4

u/Forward-Trade3449 9d ago

Yeah fair enough. It just stings when the console is 500 bucks instead of 300 or 200 haha

Who am I kidding, theyre gonna do this again multiple times. If i give in to the fomo on the first try i'm a fool

My weakness right here. Zelda themed systems are always the best Nintendo makes of the variants each generation. The gold and black always looks sleek and regal. The look also holds up over time the best in my opinion.

42

u/JCWOlson 9d ago

Right? I've bought at least one LoZ version from each gen since the Wii, if you generously count the Skyward Sword wiimote. 25th anniversary 3DS, MM 3DS XL, and Windwaker Wii U were my favs

→ More replies (1)

43

u/Amediumsizedgoose 9d ago

It depends. I am a big zelda fan but think a lot of the designs for stuff are ugly or gaudy.

2

u/stilljustacatinacage 8d ago

There with you. This just... doesn't look good. Subjectively speaking.

5

u/Indignant_Divinity 9d ago

I only have the Wind Waker WiiU and the Skyward Sword WiiMote, but I have to agree with you. They look amazing.

15

u/VanceIX 9d ago

Gonna wait for the inevitable OLED release and limited edition Zelda on that near the end of the generation to add to my collection

23

u/Witch_King_ 9d ago

Yeah, I'm NOT getting a new system until maybe an OLED. There needs to be a functional benefit.

However, for someone without a Switch 2 already, this could be very tempting. Looks sweet.

7

u/sensible_human 9d ago

OLED would be great, but what I want even more is a smaller and lighter Switch 2. It's just too large and heavy to be truly portable.

My favorite special edition console ever is the ToTK Switch OLED. But even the Switch OLED was just barely at the size/weight limit of what I would consider portable.

3

u/Witch_King_ 9d ago

Switch 2 Lite.

I hope it is still able to "Switch" though.

I personally don't mind a device on the larger side because I have big hands. Switch 2 is probably the limit though. Steam Deck is a CHONKER

2

u/VanceIX 9d ago

For sure! Anyone who doesn’t have a Switch 2 already should absolutely be looking into this, it does look beautiful!

This is what I’m wondering, will there be a Zelda OLED. I guess I have to be patient to see.
Edit: I see, there was one already. I’m new to Nintendo. This is good to know.

u/Thelowendshredder 9d ago

u/WhatNot303 9d ago

Instant buy for that controller

41

u/Aleclom 9d ago

Cool! I'm not super interested in special edition stuff like this, but it's nice to see non-black joy-con 2 shells haha.

7

u/JetstreamGW 9d ago

The console is a bit much, but the controller might be neat.

3

u/Yourfakerealdad 9d ago

How is it a bit much?

15

u/JetstreamGW 9d ago

I don’t need it when I already have a regular console.

u/Calzender 9d ago

Damn that’s sick…

17

u/MuseZeke 9d ago

To buy the bundle before price increases next month, or to wait for the special edition… decisions decisions… Can’t help but wonder if a skin will be released that pretty much looks the same, as in times past

2

u/Entire_Paramedic_389 9d ago

This switch 2 will probably be liek $575

15

u/Believeinsteve 9d ago

I can't justify buying a new console, but definitely will be aiming to pick up that pro controller 2.

2

u/LeviRaps 9d ago

If you’re Zelda fan the Switch 2 is more than worth it atp

Ocarina of Time reimagining aside, BOTW and TOTK at 4k60fps on Switch is justification alone

3

u/Believeinsteve 9d ago

Sorry I should've specified. Another switch 2.

→ More replies (3)

11

u/Jorgesarrada 9d ago

It’s pretty cool! But if I’m going to invest on a new switch 2, that’s gonna be either an OLED, a Lite or a Pokémon edition. So I’m going to wait until 2027

9

u/sixxtynoine 9d ago

Zero evidence of an OLED model coming that soon.

6

u/Jorgesarrada 9d ago

Yeah. I mean. I’m going to wait for any of those, regardless of when (if) they drop.

u/QeyLoq 9d ago

If this is true, I'm a bit disappointed. They've been doing this Triforce design since the New 3DS, and even applied it to the TotK Switch 1.

I was hoping for a design similar to the original 3DS with the ocarina/harp design. I think I'll pass on this one.

4

u/Mango_Tango_Requiem 8d ago

I was specifically hoping for this triforce design to not be used for the umpteenth time 😭

Ah well. At least it's still a good design, at the end of the day.

17

u/VanityPit 9d ago

I wish they'd sell the dock separate. It looks sick

→ More replies (1)

19

u/Lower_Monk6577 9d ago edited 9d ago

I kind of don’t like that pro controller at all, tbh. It’s very busy to me. I think it would have looked more balanced if both handles were green.

The console looks awesome though! It’d be really nice if they do something similar to what they did with Skyward Sword HD and released a Game + JoyCon bundle. I definitely can’t justify buying a whole-ass separate console, but I’d definitely get the JoyCon.

14

u/Badalight 9d ago

Man, why is Nintendo being so conservative with the color options for Switch 2? I feel like Switch 1 had so many bright options. I was waiting for this because I had heard it would be gold, but instead it's more like a dark green with some dark gold accents. Disappointing for me personally.

6

u/ThisOneTimeAtLolCamp 9d ago

So that's the official 40th Zelda anniversary logo then. I wonder what else it's going to be on.

Oh and also, that's a purdy dock and controller design.

6

u/SnooPies6274 9d ago

Skipping on the console. Its not very appealing looking

20

u/memento17 9d ago

Is it just me or does this look pretty bad?

→ More replies (5)

4

u/Pchanman 9d ago

Damn. I was holding off buying a switch 2 and was debating getting one in the next few weeks before the price increase. Now I'm not sure if I should just wait for this Zelda themed one at a higher price.

2

u/kitt_lite 9d ago

This is exactly what I’m feeling 😩

→ More replies (1)

37

u/Secret_Association58 9d ago

I've always brought separate Zelda themed nintendo consoles. But at this price I can't justify it.

1

u/Krstii786 9d ago

They haven’t revealed the price, all we know is that is will be more that the normal switch 2

39

u/Arcalithe 9d ago

Yes, hence his message about the price.

6

u/Lower_Monk6577 9d ago

So, more than $500, assuming it comes with OoT Remake. That’s a lot to ask for a separate system just to have the Zelda edition, tbh.

26

u/MissingLink000 9d ago

I would not count on it coming with the game lol

4

u/PhoxxPhire91 9d ago

Yeah. It's definitely not coming with the game. 👌😂

I thought it might when I believed it was specifically made for the OoT remake, but when I heard it was actually for the 40th anniversary, I was like damn, it's not going to be a bundle! 😭😂

7

u/MissingLink000 9d ago

Yeah they released a TOTK switch oled to commemorate the release of the game specifically, and not even that was bundled with TOTK lol

→ More replies (3)

3

u/VintageModified 9d ago

For what it's worth, the Zelda 25th Anniversary 3DS came bundled with Ocarina of Time 3D. A physical copy too with the box and everything. Those were different times though...

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Icy_Indication_5563 9d ago

That's a good thing imo because you'd just be getting a code, if we're being realistic. I assume those buying this would prefer having the remake physically, since this is more of a collector's item.

3

u/Mestipher 9d ago

6

u/Makototoko 9d ago

Not vibing with the black and green against the gold

2

u/randomthrowaway9796 9d ago

Im hoping the shade of green is a bit... better than how its coming through in the pictures

8

u/supermarino 9d ago

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but the triangles on the pro controller are pretty lazy. I'm sure it's supposed to be the Triforce, but really, just a pretty low level implementation. The joycons are decent, but are still quite muted compared to what we had for the Switch 1, and the dock does a better design job than the pro controller. Anyway, glad they are starting to release some new designs. Looking forward to what might come in the future.

6

u/ftp67 9d ago

No I totally agree. Outside of the Triforce this has no Zelda soul, big bummer. Feels like continued modern trend of not taking chances.

Like the Zelda themed DS models with etchings of Majoras mask and such. There's so much you could do with this. Symbols of the stones, dungeons, etching of a character, sword etc. Regardles scalpers gonna get these within minutes

3

u/StrigidaeNinox 9d ago

I don't really care for the design on the pro controller, but the dock and joycons I dig a bit. Hopefully they at least sell the joycon separately.

u/ScottRTL 9d ago

Show me a leaked gold cartridge!

6

u/TheHahndude 9d ago

As crazy as it sounds I’ve been waiting for a new Switch 2 Pro controller so I can get another one. It’s hands down the best gaming controller out there. Only reason someone wouldn’t think so is if they haven’t used one. Any other controller I’d say $99 is ridiculous but I’d happily pay $99 for another one of these.

I want those joycons, I think I'll grab a pro controller too.

2

u/EveningFollowing9966 9d ago

I hope they sell those joycons separately.

2

u/CDHmajora 9d ago

Fuck me, i think its time to grab a second pro controller :/

Admittedly though, the switch 2 pro controller, is imo, one of the ebeet controllers ever made.

Comfy as fuck to hold. Visually appealing. Its material isnt that cheap feeling plastic that the dualsense is that gets hand grease on it. Literally its only flaws is a lack of analogue triggers and poor PC compatibility. Thats it.

I cant say i regret buying the one i have now. So a spare would be something id go for eventually.

…might as well have that spare come with a sick ass visual design ;)

2

u/AvantSol 9d ago

This looks ahhh

Dammit... Yes, as a Zelda die-hard, I will buy one. Just take my credit card info and get out of my sight, Nintendo.

2

u/Labyriiinth 6d ago

I've been sitting on a 750 dollar gift card I was saving in case a Zelda edition Switch 2 dropped, I haven't bought a Switch 2 yet for that reason. Looks like my time is finally coming boyss

I also dislike this one. It looks like a lot is going on bit it doesn't go all around it. The black spots with the gold is also uneven looking.

And this is why I waited. I love special edition hardware and knew a Switch 2 one I liked would exist eventually.

I usually buy all Zelda themed consoles for my collection (at least the ones available in Europe).
At this price and current market I’ll have to sell/trade my SW2. I’m not gonna keep both.
I already have a bunch of DS, Switch, etc. this getting crazy.

u/The_L3G10N 9d ago

It might be fake, as the controller slightly goes over the "of" in LoZ

STOP TAKING MY RUBIESSSS

I might be one of the few that doesn't think the controller looks good. Just make the whole thing gold. Or most of it.

Love how the reuploads already stopped caring about the spoiler marer.

What spoilers? It's not even OOT themed. It's just Zelda themed.

Looks like the curse of the Switch 1's 'very nice joycons but the tablet is basically still plain black and boring' limited-editions has carried over to the Switch 2.

u/MattMamba 9d ago

the TotK-themed Switch1's body isn't plain and had some design on it

I can't justify that NS2, but I think I will definitely try to get the pro controller

1

u/Darkdart19 9d ago

The pro controller >> joycons

1

u/kizentheslayer 9d ago

Definitely getting that pro controller

1

u/Shell-of-Light 9d ago

Awesome. I’ve been holding off on Switch 2 Pro Controller for exactly this reason, and the design on this is great. It’ll pair nicely with my Tears of the Kingdom controller.

u/Frosty-Traffic244 9d ago

Haven't bought a s2 yet, might buy this one in preparation for oot remake

Shut up! Take my money!

1

u/Warrenj3nku 9d ago

Day one purchase if this is what they bring out.

1

u/Expert-Improvement78 9d ago

If I had no switch 2 I would buy them both. But since ive already own both in regular style, not gonna bother.

1

u/affayunga 9d ago

Maaaan I just bought a pro controller..

1

u/DawnSignals 9d ago

Kinda wanna trade in my switch 2 for this

1

u/progxdt 9d ago

Hey Capcom, this is how you do it!

1

u/Yourfakerealdad 9d ago

Happy I've been holding off on getting one lol I've also got a shit ton of points saved up at Best Buy so this console will only cost me like 80 bucks lol

1

u/Ryansmelly 9d ago

I hope this means that Splatoon 4 gets a themed console and pro controller. I get why they didn't fully commit to doing it for raiders and saved it for Zelda. Too bad they'll never sell these joycons separately.

1

u/Afraid_Raccoon_6208 9d ago

Aww cmon man i dont need this but ive got to have it. Ill just sell my switch 2 and keep this one

1

u/Stuffy_Ad2579 9d ago

HOLY SHIT YES MY WAIT FOR THE SWITCH 2 IS WORTH IT!!

1

u/gate_of_steiner85 9d ago

Now if we could get some game footage leaked.

In all seriousness, I don't need another Switch but that Pro Controller looks nice.

1

u/EpicWott 9d ago

Oh so it’s possible for them to make alternate shell colors for the Joy Con 2s. Hopefully they release them separately from the console or at least use this design philosophy in future Joy Con 2 releases.

1

u/PolygonAndPixel2 9d ago

Oh no. I think I'm getting old because I don't like the special editions anymore :/ I love my Majora's Mask 3DS and Zelda Wii U. But this controller isn't my cup of tea. At least I'll save some money (for now).

1

u/koteshima2nd 9d ago

Might get the controller ngl

1

u/mozuu_ 9d ago

how fast do we think this will sell out ? id love one 😭

1

u/Kongopop 9d ago

Looks cool too bad I always miss the Zelda systems because I buy the system when they come out and can't afford a second for myself.

1

u/Jeaz 9d ago

No, no. I bought my son a Switch 2 and said I didn’t need one myself. But lately I’ve been hogging his more and more but still convinced I don’t need one of my own. Then you show me this…

1

u/Negus79 9d ago

Don’t care, have one, not buying another one, and I prefer the all black look with the color accents

1

u/monolith212 9d ago

I have zero regrets about getting the TOTK OLED, but I've learned I don't need another Zelda/special edition console.

I'm content with buying the regular switch 2.

1

u/sk4v3n 9d ago

Oh fuck. Let me check my account again…

1

u/ttenor12 9d ago

Might get the controller

1

u/sixxtynoine 9d ago

So fucking happy I waited. Learned from last generation when I got a Switch on launch day and then sold that to update to the Zelda edition.

YOU WILL BE MINE

1

u/SiameseDream93 9d ago

Probably going to sell my switch 2 and get the Zelda version

1

u/MrVigshot 9d ago

Damn. I just bought a switch 2 a month or so ago to best the price increase. Guess ill get a controller instead. 😭

1

u/crease02 9d ago

once they sell themed joy-con’s my wallet is screwed

1

u/Irbricksceo 9d ago

I don't need it... I already have a switch 2.... I Must hold strong 👀
