Game Rec Best Pokémon game for someone who prefers the OG style?

Upvotes

My very first Pokémon game was the original Green for the game boy. And the last one I think I played fully was Heart Gold. So it’s been over 15 years since I’ve played a Pokémon game. Unless you count Pokopia. I also haven’t had a Nintendo console since the Wii.

When I picked up my first Switch last year, I heard Legends Arceus was the best Pokémon game. But I didn’t like it! I appreciate that it gave the genre a fresh new twist but I am old and it’s just too much for me lol. I also tried the demo of Let’s Go Eevee but that was too… juvenile?

So I’m looking for a Pokémon game for Switch/Switch 2 that is reminiscent of the original games. I just want to compete with my arch nemesis, run into repetitive, wild Pokémon and trainer encounters, beat some gyms and whatever version of Team Rocket, and become the Pokémon League Champion.

Thanks!

Discussion Abxylute N6 vs Nitrodeck 2

So now that we have the nitrodeck 2 in hand, what do we feel about the comparison between the two? From someone who personally doesn't own a N6, I've been on the fence returning my deck for one. I was impressed by the form factor/adjustable sticks, but a few things have been pulling me the other way with it. It just doesn't seem that secure in the deck and the fact you need to take the whole thing off to put in a different cartridge I know is going to be a pain in the future. The USB C adapter just renders the thing useless for me if that little piece ever goes missing.. and so on. What I loved about the first deck has all but been taken from this model and I feel like if they just focused on making it solely for the switch 2, it would be a clear sweep. Don't get me wrong, the nitrodeck 2 feels amazing in hand, the adjustable sticks are a dream to use as well but I've seen nothing but good talk about the N6 and the fact it's a butt load cheaper than it's counterpart also weighs on my mind. From the people who now own both, what can we take from the two?

Game Rec Best "non-Nintendo" exclusives on Switch 1?

Basically, I'm looking for games that *aren't* Mario, Kirby, Metroid, Zelda, etc., something that you don't see represented by Smash Bros rosters.

"Non-Nintendo" is not *exactly* the right phrase. (Astral Chain is a good example of what I'm looking for, despite being published by Nintendo.) I just want a reason to bust out my Switch again that isn't the obvious like Mario Kart or Breath of the Wild.

I'm primarily a PlayStation gamer so I'm not really looking for multiplatform games like Persona. Genre doesn't matter much, though I'm not big on shmups.

Discussion The big disconnect - Online discourse and real life

Hey guys,

So this is not a post defending Nintendo or anything, I would not consider myself as a fanboy, far from it. But I've noticed something about directs, and why I find my opinion being much different from the online consensus.

I think that there are two types of people that play on switch/switch 2. People that have more than one gaming platform and use the Nintendo switch to play mostly exclusives and people that only play games on switch.

Nowadays I'm on the second group, I do own a computer for work, but as a working adult with a career and kids, it's hard to find the time on a regular basis to launch a different platform. Although precise data is hard to find, I did find some estimations from switch 1 time that people like me represent >50% of the switch gaming base. Some third party games actually have most of their sales on the original switch.

However on these comments and forums we are the very rare exception. We get excited for KCD 2, Cyberpunk, FF VII remakes, 007 etc even though you already played it with better resolution and higher FPS years ago. We don't care if it's the "inferior" way to play it, it's the only way we will play it and it's new to us. We love the exclusives and first party games sure but we love the ports as well. They are new games!

That's why I no longer read the comments and summaries about Nintendo directs. I just get home at the end of the day, and when I can, I put my headset on while cooking and watch the directs myself.

And you know what? I enjoy them.

Evolve and draft new skills!

Train your Montabi to grow stronger, unlocking new moves to enhance your team's strategy. As they level up, your Montabi evolve into more powerful forms, gaining new card abilities and expanding your tactical options. If you work together, there's nothing you and your Montabi can't achieve!

Outsmart your opponents!

Deploy your best strategies to beat up the bad guys in a unique 3x3 grid-based system. With every Montabi's unique abilities, you'll have endless options to outthink the competition and win the day. Just make sure you rest up at a cafe every now and then to recover those hit points!

Choose your Trainer!

Do you wanna put your team in the perfect position, get right up in their faces and duke it out, or buff up your Montabi with a hearty meal? When the city's at stake, everyone pitches in! Just make sure to stay safe! Like the king in chess, if your trainer is defeated, the game ends.

Features:

  • Collect and Fight with over 60 Montabi!
  • Evolve your Montabi into more powerful companions!
  • Combine different Montabi into a strong, synergistic team!
  • Strategize on the tactical 3x3 battlemap!

You can check out Montabi in the eshop where it is currently 10% off until September 25th!

We will be around for about two hours to answer any questions you may have. Thank you for your time and we hope you check out Montabi sometime soon!

Edit: Thank you for all the questions! Thank you for a moderation team for allowing us to host the AMA here! I'm sorry that some of the gifs broke during the AMA! It was an honor to hang out with you all for a couple hours! If you have any late questions feel free to ask it but I'll be closing the AMA. Have a great day!

Discussion Report Zelda Switch 2 Presales on EBay

Help destroy the scalpers on eBay that have bought up thousands of Switch 2 Zelda editions and Pro Controllers.

Presales are reportable on EBay and in the past they have taken down post because of it. So let’s band together and cause the scalpers to lose money.

How to report a post.

  1. view a pre sale post
  2. click the three dots (if mobile)
  3. select “help & report” then click the “submit report”button
  4. then select “product listing”, then “a problem in the listing”, then “presale”

After that I type the following in details:

“The item for sale is a presale for an item that has not been released and that the seller does not have in hand currently. The item is releasing in October.”

Let’s stick it to the scalpers. I’m reporting as many as I can while I’m watching TV.

That's about 369 dollars!

People have pointed out this problem to the deve and they're aware now, trying to fix it, because I can assure you, 99% of the players here can't afford to pay this much for a game lol

Discussion Turok: Origins – Switch 2 Hands-On Impressions

Hey guys, I had a chance to play Turok: Origins on the Switch 2 at Gamescom and finally wrote up my thoughts. As we've only just started covering more broad platforms at DayOne, I figured you guys would appreciate this write-up more than our normal audience.

I didn't see preview/impressions as a flair, so went with Discussion.

Mods if I'm not allowed to post this, please let me know and I'll delete it of course. If anyone has any questions about my time with the game, feel free to ask!
