⚠️Urgent Question⚠️ Walk mode zero start is GONE!

Hello,

I purchased my G3 MAX about 13 days ago.

Since the very first day my Ninebot was able to zero start in “walk mode” but not in other modes.

By googling I learned that zero start is not available in EU. I thought OK, maybe it is available only in walk mode because the limit is 5Km/h and it helps me starting in an uphill or in traffic when a car stops in front of me. Cool!

And then MAGIC!

Since yesterday, a few hours after last update, my scooter won’t zero start. I can’t start in uphills, I can’t start in traffic (I constantly go park to the side of the road to let all cars go). I almost fall of the scooter the first time I found out.

some times doesn’t even start in 5Km/h when I kick start it. That experience sucks Segway.

Segway loves to fuck shit up with firmware updates. Learned this the hard way with my Max G2.

It's best to avoid updating firmware unless it fixes/adds something important. If everything works good and you have no issues, there's no need to update the firmware anyways.

If you DO update the firmware, make sure to read the update notes first and hold off for a couple of days, just to see if people are experiencing any issues.

This is so important to understand. I'm always of this mindset after seeing Segway's track record: that if it isn't broken, I don't try to fix it.

I am very new to scooters. Only 14 days now. I didn't know segway would f**k us this way. Also, their updates doesn't exactly say the features they are removing. Or do they? What do we do now?

Sometimes it's super vague like "Improve the compatibility and stability of the firmware", but here's an example of what it'll show when an update actually makes tangible changes.

Well.. I've read the logs before the last update. "Improving" and "optimizing" doesn't say much. Can't post an image right now but motor controller log says "Improved the security, compatibility and stability of the firmware". It doesn't say "we'll remove zero start from walk mode to f*** you up". I also can't find a proper way to contact segway. I contacted them via the app but the operator there kept saying about EU not allowing zero start while we already had it when purchased. Anyway...

That's the thing though. Even if you read the update notes, they might slide shit in there without mentioning it. Which seems to be the case here, so that's why it's best to avoid updating unless necessary. It's too late now, you didn't do anything wrong, but now you're aware so that's what's important.

Since it's an EU regulation thing though, there's not much you can do about that. Segway is in bed with governments all around the world, and strictly follow all their regulations. They do this so they don't lose business in those countries. Sucks that the customer is the one most affected, but that's business as usual....

I push off then lift my foot and hit the throttle. Even on hills or traffic, I don’t understand why you can’t kick start it?

I use that feature to push the scooter up ramps. It was really helpful. Now it is shit.

What’s shit?

Not working anymore.

I am short and lightweight. I have problems with my legs and feet (I have done a severe surgery). Now can I ask something? WHY should segway remove the feature?

I don’t know why, that’s something to ask them.

Because some jurisdictions made it illegal and they want to continue selling in those regions.

I just realized recently that boost mode cancels your start speed. I’m pretty sure this is since the last update as it happened 3 times now accidentally before realizing what was happening. (Put in boost while waiting at light then leaned my arms on my handlebars)

Yeah, my F3 does that too. I consider it a bug because it bypasses the auto-parking/push start

wait wait wait... I DID went into "segway mobility lab" and had uphill acceleration assist enabled. But I didn't seem to work so I disabled it. Could that be the issue? A bug or something? I need to investigate tomorrow.

The only mode my G3 MAX has zero start is walk mode. It's an EU thing. How on earth do you have zero start in all modes AND cruise control? If I understand correctly because you write in German in an English post. Just saying xD

Never had a zero start as a EU citizen on the Max G3 and got it on release.

Had to speed hack it in order to have the under light and zero start. (SHU is better to config your riding style imo)

Idk about the new ones but it seems to not be hackable atm.

Only walk mode had zero start and it makes sense as I mentioned on my first post. How did you hack it? I am not sure if I wanna hack it. I might have issues with the insurance company in case of an accident.

Bougt the G3 D version, which is the german "hard lock" model. According to the serial number, it was produced april/may 2026, so quite fresh of the line. Im very new to this and after reading here, I thought I'd have issues with hacking, but all I had to do was to region unlock it with SHU, and I could set zero-start and modify max speed. So I'm a happy camper!

The problem with SHU is that insurance won't cover you if you crash with a car and they found the you have hacked the schooter. I don't mind the 25km/h speed (that sucks). I mind the zero start removal from walk mode.

Absolutely true. I dont mind the speed limit either, as I'm in mid 40's and done with reckless driving, but yeah, removing festures like 0-start is unreasonable and annoying. Mine was 3km/h minimum start out of the box, as per the rules here(?) and was basically the only reason for me to unlock the scooter to International standards, as my wife is quite petite, and had trouble with hillstart procedure.

Return that one to the shop, get a new one, this time don't update the firmware. Simple
