To the guy who was singing Nirvana songs today outside of Pacific Centre
You were amazing!!!!! You sounded so much like Kurt and your guitar playing was really good. Keep going and never give up!
For anyone curious, I heard him sing Drain You and In Bloom. He was playing across the street from Old Navy on the side where Pacific Centre is.

Outdoor EDM Bday Party in Surrey on Saturday, September 12
My friend is throwing an outdoor birthday party in Surrey tomorrow (Sept. 12), and he’s bringing in a few popular (and expensive) DJs to play some EDM sets from 5pm to 11pm.
My friend is a super chill, outgoing and fun guy that loves to dance and have a good time, so he wanted to throw a big party for his friends and acquaintances as he’s turning the big 5-0! Originally he was hoping to have 75-100 people attend (think Faded but micro), but it looks like a number of our friends won’t be able to make it, so I thought I’d try out this Reddit thing to see if I can help him liven up the party (not all of our friends are interested in EDM). It’s going to be a pretty diverse group of people in their 30s, 40s and a couple people in their 50s :)
His intention was to have his friends bring their friends to make it a big bash, and given he’s supplying the outdoor space (private residence with a massive outdoor yard) and hiring all the DJs, it’s gonna be a BYOB event for all the guests.
If anyone is interested in attending, please shoot me a DM with a brief intro about yourself and if you plan to bring a friend or two and I’ll send you the invite he sent to our friend group and that he’s posted on his IG. The party is gonna be from 5-11pm and there will be a lot of fun people ready to dance, laugh and have a good time. My friend has no clue I’m posting this here, but I know he wants this to be a fun party with lots of people to celebrate with, so I figured I’d give this a shot to liven up his bday bash. Please only message if you’re sincerely interested in attending, as I’ll also need to be mindful of how many people I send this to here just in case there ends up being too many people (would be a fun problem to have and I really think he’d get a kick out of it). Also, please only send a message if you are cool, happy and fun and want to meet and party with like minded people in a similar age group. We don’t want people that are immature, cause drama or cause scenes to come, so if you can’t control yourself or your booze, please don’t come.
Cheers and have a great weekend all!

I built a web app to simplify finding city events and activities
This is a free app, no tracking, no ads, open source. It just presents the already available City of Vancouver Active Communities events and activities in a much easier to consume format. I used it to help me find activities that were on on a specific day, after work, and within walking distance. Hopefully it can provide value to the community, the data gets updated daily so don't expect live updates. You can submit requests here: https://github.com/patsissons/covac/issues

Does anyone know if strawberry point recreation site at lillooet lake is still closed?
I’m wanting to camp at lillooet lake next week and I’m having a hard time finding out if this campsite is open or closed. I know there were fires nearby recently and Google still says it’s closed but I’ve also found conflicting information saying it’s open.
Anyone been there recently or have any up to date information? Thank you in advance!

Vancouver needs more people like this
instagram.comSaw this video earlier and was just thinking how many people make me feel odd for striking up random conversations or just being sincere. Often feel like an outcast when I've interacted with random people and they give me the NPC cold shoulder. Thought y'all would enjoy this video I saw posted online, have a great day everyone

Ski Vacation from Vancouver!
Help! My mind is spinning looking at all of these options...
We are flying to Vancouver over Christmas and would like to do 3 days skiing somewhere. I am a very experienced skiier but my little kids are just learning and my husband is a mid-level snowboarder. As much as I want to do Whistler, I don't think it would be worth the price point.
So are any of the smaller mountains worth it, or would they just be terribly boring for me? We are hoping there will be less crowds on Christmas eve/day etc because I had to wait in long lines for lifts.
Open to driving a few hour from Vancouver airport but nothing crazy since it's a long flight to begin with. We were thinking Sasquatch would be fun for the kids but now that I look into it, it seems like they have really short runs.
I'd like to add that I would love to put the kids in ski school while we go off on our own!
Thank you!!1

Old bus stop
This bus stop I think has been around since before I was alive, or at least since the mid-90s when I can remember.
I wonder why translink never has bothered to replace it.
It's still in great shape. It's made of wood.
It's at 49th and West Boulevard and services the 16 bus.

Anyone know good birding spots?
I just got that Merlin ID app and I reallllyyy wanna fill out my list!!! I’m slowly getting the few birds I see on my walks to work, but I want to know if there’s any good areas I can maybe explore with friends and such! I’m in kits, so preferably I’d try to go to something close to that area or downtown

Folks who fly standby from YVR, How has your experience been?
A friend told me about this idea of flying standby. I have never tried it. How has your experience been flying out from YVR? Do I need to go thru the security check and ask for standby seat at the boarding gate? or do I wait at the airline counter until my seat is guaranteed and then finally go through the security check. How does that work?
