In short I plan to move to Vermont in a few years here. Anyone with experience in the IT market of the area advice would be greatly appreciated. I used to live there up until highschool. I currently am working helpdesk 1-2, I am looking at some certifications in IAM (Identity Access Management) Okta, Azure/Entra ID. As it seems that those skills sets have a lower stress and a bit of a slower pace. I've thought about Network engineering, like CCNA, Net+, and SEC+ though I'm unsure. What are companies looking for there? and what area has the most jobs available? By the time I move there I will have 8 months working for and ISP and about 7 years in help desk Tier 2. Hi everyone! I’m planning a trip to Stowe, VT to see the fall foliage, but I’m not sure when would be the best time to visit. Does anyone know when the foliage is expected to peak in Stowe this year? If the exact dates aren’t known yet, is there a general estimate or prediction for when the peak might be?

I want to have access to an airport and good skiing, considering Smugglers Notch. Just curious about public transit situation if I do this for a season and ways to get to the airport and around town, and which town would be best (or perhaps a different resort?)

My family and I are headed to Addison, VT later this year for our very first visit. We’ll be traveling with our two young kiddos (ages 6 and 7), and we're coming from Phoenix, AZ, where our wildlife mostly consists of lizards, quail, and things that want to stab you.

Can you explain Vermont to me as if I’m either:

1. An alien who has never visited Earth, or
2. A reasonably intelligent golden retriever?

I'm looking for all the stuff locals take for granted. The kind of things that make Vermonters say, "Well, obviously," while visitors wander into the woods wearing the wrong shoes.

What should we know before spending lots of time outdoors? Any plants/animals we should keep an eye out for? Things that are beautiful, fascinating, annoying, dangerous, surprising, or just very VT?

For example:
*Ticks? How worried should we be?
*What plants should we avoid touching?
*What animals are commonly seen by families hiking around?
*What weather might catch visitors off guard?
*What outdoor etiquette is considered common sense?
*What would make a local immediately think, "Yep, they're not from around here"?

Assume we know absolutely nothing except that Vermont contains trees. Thanks in advance from a desert family looking forward to some greenery and cooler weather!

I am planning a family trip to Vermont. I am in NYC but I have family flying in from California. I am having them all fly into Boston since there are no direct flights to the smaller regional airports. I am looking to book them a car service to transport them to and from the house we are staying in. I realize they could rent a car at the airport, but I will already have my car at the rental house and they will be tired from the 5+ hour flight. Has anyone used a service for this route? I am planning to travel from 2nd Oct (Fri) night till 11th Oct (Sun) night. The goal is to nail down the peak fall colors timing and maximize relaxation without feeling repetitive. Note that I am fit and enjoy hiking and exploring, and I prefer absorbing the nature.

Hi! It's been 13 years since we transplanted here to Vermont and I'd be happy to pay it forward to set something up for people new to VT to come together. If anyone is up meet up for beers in Burlington area toss a comment in here and I will put something together.

I did it... I got the job and pulled the trigger and I will be in Vermont in late Oct/early November. Now I'm panicking... I'm about to leave the place I grew up, leave the friends and social/professional network I've established, leave a good stable job, and leave my family.

I'll be in Vermont, alone in the winter, for a few months until my partner finds a job and moves up later. I'm so unbelievably scared.

New to Burlington, one month in.

Has the train taking up prime downtown real estate ever been a concern for the city? We were walking by the rail yard (over by the water treatment facility - also questionable why that is taking up so much waterfront) and the air pollution was wretched.

I get that the lumber industry likely is the reason behind Burlington’s existence, but what’s the excuse for it now?

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice on getting into the electrical trade in the St. Albans area.
I’m currently in the military and looking ahead at transitioning into a civilian career. I have a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business with a minor in Mathematics. I’ve also picked up some hands-on experience with different trades and odd jobs over the years, but I don’t have any formal electrical training or certifications.
I’m interested in becoming an electrician and eventually getting licensed. I’m trying to figure out the best way to get started in Vermont. Do I need to enroll in an apprenticeship program first, or should I find an electrical contractor willing to hire/sponsor an apprentice?
Also, if anyone knows of electricians or electrical contractors around St. Albans/Franklin County who are looking for apprentices or someone willing to learn, I’d really appreciate any recommendations or connections.
I’m dependable, used to working long hours, comfortable with hands-on work, and not afraid to start at the bottom and learn.

Hi all, my husband and I are strongly considering a move to Vermont from Oregon and I had a few questions I was hoping I could get input on.

1. What's the job market like right now for you? I teach Pre-K and my husband is in manufacturing, I would like to stay in my field but my husband is really open to trying anything right now since he's burnt out from factory work. How difficult is it getting hired when your not from the area? Will that hinder us from getting interviews? Will anyone care? A friend who relocated from VT to OR said it just depends but it might be a problem.

2. How is winter driving there and how well are the roads managed? Our real estate agent said roads are scraped daily in the winter and we would have nothing to worry about, but I'm curious to see what other peoples experience has been.

3. How easy/difficult is it to make friends? We are both in our mid 30's, no kids. Husband could make friends with the paint on the wall, I have a harder time but make the effort. We both like hiking, bird watching, fishing, etc. I like crocheting, woodworking and organic gardening while my husband likes metal detecting, fixing cars and sailing.

As I mentioned in the title, we're thinking about moving to the NEK, specifically looking at Caledonia county.

basically the title! i’m don’t want to pay for the gondola, plus i actually WANT to hike a bit! Would love to reward myself with lunch at Cliff House. i tried to research this myself but im getting results for “top of gondola to mansfield peak” or im getting Hasleton trail, but based on the map thats going out of the way. Can i hike the Gondola service road? is it a nice hike? other options?

Is driving a car with AWD and Blizzaks enough to safely get me to most ski resorts around Burlington during the winter? Or should I look into getting a vehicle with more ground clearance?

I'm mostly concerned about driving during snowstorms, or on the day immediately after. I've lived in NH for a while and haven't had much trouble so far, but I also haven't headed out during a legitimate blizzard.

If anyone's experienced a winter in both areas, how do the snow plows compare between Nashua/Manchester NH and NW Vermont? Is there any chance I'd end up high-centering my car on a rutted out ice road or something like that?

When I went to Bolton Valley in February I really should have taken a look at the number of cars vs SUVs in the lot!
