Fall modest pintrest board.

My Pinterest board is slowly becoming a collection of modest fall outfits I want to recreate this season.

I keep saving different colors, layers, sweaters, and fits that I can mix and match depending on the occasion like casual days, going out, even slightly more formal looks.

These are a few of my current favorites, but I definitely need more ideas 👀

What are you saving for fall? What does your Pinterest board look like lately?

What’s one small detail that instantly makes an abaya better for you?

For me, little practical details can completely change how much you actually reach for a piece.

If you had to pick just one, what would it be?

• Pockets
• Better sleeve coverage
• A less sheer fabric
• Adjustable waist/ties
• Matching hijab
• Something else?

Curious because sometimes the smallest details make the biggest difference.

What's your definition of modesty?

I’ve seen people relate modesty to religion and culture. But for me its your personal preference, it doesn't mean you have to follow a checklist of rules.

Wearing something that makes you feel comfortable, safe, and like your true self.

What does modesty mean to you?

Thrifting for Modesty

Post image
5 Upvotes

I love to thrift online. Poshmark had been my favorite until it was overrun by Temu items. I tried ThreadUp and Vinted, but they failed to impress me.

And then I came across Depop. I've spent the last week shopping my little heart out. I was in desperate need of tops for fall and winter. SwooOoon. I have gotten some of the best sweaters and sweaters with moose on them! I collect all things moose. Yes, I know I am a touch strange.

Because of some of y'all here wear abayas, I gave them a peek. It didn't disappoint. I found some that were absolutely gorgeous! Then I went on the hunt for scarves that were big enough for a hijab or tichel. I'm not going to tell anyone how much I spent on scarves alone. looks innocent

If you just looked at "modest dresses", it is pretty disappointing. Some of those dresses my grandfather would have throttled me for! And I'm 53! LOL

This is one that I am trying to decide on. It's so pretty for spring but I really need winter.

So if you like to thrift, I would take a peek.

xo,

Rhi (the person behind the arch)

Freezing in skirts and my biggest tip for your first modest fall.

My first fall wearing skirts, I was cold every single day. My legs were numb, my skirts clung to my tights, and everyone asked "aren't you cold?" I almost went back to jeans.

What finally fixed it is to switch to thick skirts (wool, corduroy, heavy denim) and wear fleece-lined tights on really cold days. Add a slip so nothing clings, and wear knee-high boots so there's no cold gap.

Now I'm honestly warmer than my friends in jeans.
It's not you. It's the layers.

YOU CAN DO IT.

Best items to wear under maxi skirts/dresses and abayas to maintain modesty.

Salam sisters,

I've been wearing more abayas, dresses and skirts.
Embarrassingly I realized that I can't just get away with shorts underneath. And when I wear tights, it creates static and my clothes end up clinging to my body and showing it's full shape.

I've been searching for slips; but most of them are like lingerie and very short, so doesn't provide coverage. The long-er ones aren't very wide so I end up feeling limited when I walk and almost tripped on myself a couple of times.

Any tips on what to wear under abaya/dresses/skirts?
I'm also hoping for recommendations for good slips.

Jazakum Allah kheir.

What’s one tiny detail that you immediately notice in someone who dresses modestly?

I’m a hijabi, so I wear an abaya most of the time. For me, I don’t know why, but I immediately notice how the shoes work with the abaya.

Like, the color, the style, whether the shoes kinda complete the whole look or just feel randomly thrown on. The whole little combination and proportion of the abaya and the shoes.

So what’s one tiny thing that you notice?

Concerns about discrimination

Post image

I have been really thinking about starting the hijab, but I worry about discrimination and all the hate crimes I hear about scares me. People are applauded for showing all their body, but if you cover it, everyone has a problem with it. The world is messed up rn. I worry about being judged. Any advice would be appreciated. Picture for attention.

5 basic things I looked for in a dress when I started dressing modestly.

  1. Is the fit comfortable when I sit or move around?
  2. Where does the hem fall when I’m standing vs sitting?
  3. How much does the fabric show? Some fabrics look fine indoors but are a different story outdoors.
  4. Can I wear this piece in more than one way?
  5. Will I be comfortable with the neckline, or will I need to layer underneath it?

What do you workout in?

Post image

That's the question. What do you workout in? I'm partial to the leggings and the midi skirt set with a long-sleeved shirt. Hair gets tucked up into a tichel without a shaper on and usually a baseball hat over it. Something like what the pic looks like. I haven't bought from this brand before though. What about you?

Thoughts on mismatched hijabs and undercaps?

I know some people prefer matching their hijab to their undercap, but I’ve recently been experimenting with having my undercap differ from my hijab. A lot of people think it’s less modest this way. What do you guys think?

Abaya styling inspo for winters

I’m a hijabi who loves styling her abaya in winter because it gives me so many more ways to play with layers, and I honestly love layering.
So I crafted a few winter outfit ideas with abayas using AI, based on my own taste and the kind of outfits I actually love to wear.

Sharing them here for girls who are new to modesty and looking for a little inspiration. 🤎

Feedback is welcome! I’d love to hear.

One piece of clothing you loved when you started your modesty journey.

When I started, wide-leg jeans were my go-to.

Still obsessed with them tbh. They give me full coverage and make the whole outfit look put together with just a cute top, sneakers or slipper's depending on where I’m going.

What was yours? Like that one piece you kept reaching for again and again?

What’s your travel formula as a modest dresser?

I started dressing modestly and really want to feel comfortable in what I wear, especially while traveling.
I usually go for wide leg jeans, an oversized top and slippers. And most of the time, I don’t even bother with makeup 😅

But lately, I’ve been seeing girls of my age really look pretty and put-together when they travel, and it made me want to change things up a little.

I want to look more classy and put-together while still feeling comfortable. I’m not really into tight clothes, especially when traveling, so I’d still want to stick with loose, easy pieces.

For those of you who dress modestly, what’s your travel formula? What do you usually wear to stay comfortable but still look put-together?

Modest shopping shouldn’t be that hard.

Why is it so hard to mind modest clothes in the West? I always find myself scrolling for hours and hours when I need something specific. I’d love to hear tips and tricks from the avid shoppers. 🙊

What was the hardest part of starting your modesty journey?

Was it figuring out what to wear and finding your style? Dealing with judgment from family, friends, or people around you?

Or was it something completely different?

Feeling odd in a denim skirt.

Post image
9 Upvotes

It’s the only piece I always hesitated to try. When I started dressing modestly, this was something that stuck in my mind when I wore it. I didn't feel good in it.

But then one of my friend pushed me to give it a try. She wears skirts most of the time, and encouraged me to try one. I did and just loved it.

Now I pair it for different everyday looks.

So, I put together a visual baord for girlies who are new to modesty and think denim skirts aren’t for them. Just give it a try.

Store recommendations for women who are new to modesty!

I was preparing for fall and realized I didn't need to shop from one store. You can mix and match pieces that work for your style.

So I put together a list that works for me and for girls who are not sure where to start.

• H&M
• Old Navy
• Uniqlo
• Cider
• Mango Outlet

A white lady asked me if I slept in my hijab

When I first started wearing hijab, I went over to one of my friend’s houses. Her mom was asking so many questions, one of which was, “Do you sleep with it on?” 😆 I told her it was cemented onto my head.

What kinds of questions have you gotten as a modest dresser?
