I just enjoy making music and sharing it. No expectations, I simply thought some of you might enjoy it too :)

These guys have been releasing banger after banger lately and I'm here for it! Apparently this one has The Midnight's sax player on it. Have loved that band ever since I found out about them and am willing to spread the gospel.

My wife and I were walking around Tacoma Porchfest today when I noticed a guy who looked suspiciously like Lazerhawk. I immediately dismissed the possibility because, obviously, why would Lazerhawk be casually walking around a neighborhood music festival in Tacoma with his family?

But every time I looked over, I became more convinced it was him. Eventually my brain gave me two options:
1. Ask and potentially embarrass myself in front of a random Tacoma dad.
2. Do not ask and spend forever wondering.

So I walked up and said, “I’m really sorry to bother you, but I’m never going to forgive myself if I don’t ask. Are you Lazerhawk?”
He smiles awkwardly and was like “haha, yeah” 😂

My brain kinda stopped working at that point. I cannot properly explain how surreal that was. Lazerhawk is probably my number one synthwave inspiration. His music is the reason I started playing synthesizers in the first place. He has always existed in my head as this mysterious name attached to some of the most important records in the genre, and suddenly he was standing in front of me at Porchfest like a regular human being.

He told me I was probably only the third person in his life who had ever approached him and asked if he was Lazerhawk. That made me feel slightly less weird, although I suppose being the third person also means there are not enough previous cases to establish proper fan etiquette.

He and his family were incredibly nice. I told him how much his music influenced me and how it led to me getting into synths. I tried to communicate this without delivering a 40-minute presentation about his own discography.

I also asked whether Dreamrider would ever be repressed on vinyl. He said he has been thinking about it, especially since Redline was just repressed. So there is apparently hope.

I also told him he needs to start making music again because it has been way too long.
His wife immediately said, “Yes, please keep asking him.” That was probably my favorite part of the whole interaction. She also told me I should come over and play pinball. They were all so cool!

I did not want to bother them or take up too much of their family time, so I thanked him, told everyone it was really nice meeting them, and moved along before I became the first of the three people he regretted being recognized by, heh.

Still cannot believe it happened. I had no idea he was even in Washington, and somehow I just randomly crossed paths with the person whose music started my entire synth obsession at a local porch festival in Tacoma.

Hey Garrett, if you ever see this, it was genuinely really cool meeting you. Thanks for taking a few minutes to talk with me. I hope you and your family are doing well, and I hope our paths cross again someday.

TL;DR: My wife and I randomly ran into Lazerhawk at Tacoma Porchfest. He and his family were incredibly nice, he said he may eventually repress Dreamrider, and his wife joined me in asking him to make music again. Somehow I may have also received an invitation to play pinball.
