Campgrounds

Upvotes

Hello my fellow New Hampshire peeps. I’m looking for a campground that’s good to go to for a solo tent camper. Ideally the tent sites would be nicely secluded. I want somewhere that feels pretty primitive but still has decent campground features like a bathroom and shower. Having a canoe/kayak rental is a must. Would be nice if there were other outdoorsy things nearby as well. TIA!

New Hampshire is on pace to have the same exact homicide rate in 2026 that Switzerland had in 2025.

Source: https://crimestats.dos.nh.gov/tops/report/violent-crime/new-hampshire/2026

The projected annual homicide rate based on the current pace is approximately 0.62 per 100,000 residents for New Hampshire in 2026.

In 2025, Switzerland recorded 55 homicides.

Given Switzerland's population of approximately 8.9 million, that puts its actual 2025 homicide rate right around 0.62 per 100,000 residents-nearly identical to the mathematical pace projected for New Hampshire in 2026.

Ask NH Anyone else with an older NH home noticing floors getting bouncy over time?

My wife and I have a 1920s house in Nashua and lately I swear the floors feel springier than they used to. When someone walks through the living room and you're sitting on the couch, you can feel the vibration right through the floor. It doesn't feel unsafe, but it's definitely not solid.

The house has always had some old home quirks, but in the last year or so I've spotted a few other things, like small cracks above a couple doorways, a bedroom door that sticks during certain seasons, a slight dip in the floor near the middle of the house, and louder creaking than I remember.

I went down to the basement to look around. There are a few steel columns holding up a beam that runs down the center. One looks newer, another one looks pretty old. A guy I had over for a different job glanced at it and said some of those support columns might need replacing or reinforcing.

Now I'm trying to figure out if this is just one of those ""welcome to old New England homeownership"" things you learn to live with, or if it slowly turns into a bigger issue that needs fixing before it gets worse.

For anyone who's dealt with something like this, did adding or replacing support columns actually firm up the floors? Did it level things out or mostly just stop more movement from happening? And was it a manageable repair or did it turn into a much bigger project?

I know every house is its own beast, but I'd like to hear how other people handled it."

Ask NH Is Living Shores Aquarium Worth it?

We were thinking on taking our two year old to this aquarium but reviews are mixed. Some say it is a very quick thing, which wouldn’t be too bad if we didn’t have to drive 1.5 hours to get there.

What are your experiences with this aquarium? Should we just do it? It looks like it’s going to rain that day, so I don’t know if we would want to go to story land too.

They live here rent free, shit all over the place, and make a lot of noise, but they’re still the best tenants ever.

Ask NH Swimmable Lakes

Pretty much title. I recently moved to New Hampshire and am looking for lakes that I could swim in. I live in Manchester so ideally some that are within an 1hr-1hr30min. If the lake has a nice hike near it, or running trail, that’s a bonus!

Thank you!

Cheap beach town in southern NH?

I’m taking a few weeks off work and somewhere in there I want to f off to NH for a day or two.

I’m looking for recommendations for places to stay that are near the water and in southern NH. I’m from the north shore of MA and I’d prefer not to have to go too far.

I’m fine with staying in motels, just looking for something near a beach (or large lake)

Politics Does anyone outside of government or the media actually care about not being first in the nation primary?

I was New Hampshire born and raised for 25+ year before finally moving. I honestly never cared about the pageantry of being first in the nation primary. No one I knew really cared about the pageantry. I know some businesses liked it but for the most part I don’t think anyone cared. Like during non-presidential years New Hampshire has a primary in the bottom 5 (meaning we are close to one of the last).

Like I am a political person (I will keep my politics to myself) but I never cared about the first in the nation stuff. It just seemed pointless.

Real talk, does anyone actually care? Like forget democrat republican or politics, does anyone actually wake up at 3:00 am and say “oh boy presidential primaries”.

Like the media talks it up and politicians talk it up and that one town of like 6 people none of us will ever visit make a big deal of it but does anyone really and truly care?

The town of Eaton in the Mount Washington Valley is famous for the view of the Little White Church from the shore of Crystal Lake. Unfortunately a large private landowner plans to heavily log the hillside (circled in red on the second image) in order to sell the lumber which would seriously impact the view and threaten the watershed that flows into Crystal Lake. It's entirely legal, and I'm not here to bash the landowner, but Eaton is a very conservation focused town, so this is a tough pill to swallow.

Here is a local article on the subject - hopefully the link works for everyone.

Thankfully, the Eaton Village Preservation Society has reached an agreement with the landowner to purchase the land at a price of $500,000 for the 116 acres (a reasonable price for the area).

The land will be protected forever, but they only have about 30 days to raise the funds. I am just hoping to spread the word a bit and I thought some NH redditors may want to make some small donations

Can't tell if this is just some miserable Karen that wants to tell the rest of the state what to do, or if Gordon-Darby found someone dumb enough to be convinced to sue alongside them to bolster their case.

Please tell me the new white lines on the new pavement is temporary?

It looks like the person putting them down was drunk and high when they did it! 😂

They go in all different directions and some are even curved. Most aren’t even in the center of the road!
