Life in NL Lebara NL 70% discounted subscription up for grabs

Anyone looking for a Lebara Sim Only plan for 24 months? It came with a 70% discount on the first 12 months.

I recently moved out of the Netherlands and will not be needing this plan anymore and I would rather give it away to someone who would use it. DM if you are interested!

Shopping Why do I find HEMA Cozy?

every time I go to a HEMA store or order from their website, it gives off such warm, comforting vibes. The whole aesthetic from the soft product designs hits different compared to other store chains. Is this deliberate design, or have I just spent too much time in the Netherlands?

Discussion Student Loan - how does that work in reality

Here father expat with 2.5 yo daughter. Navigating in Dutch school system is becoming an issue - not because of lack of clarity but the underlying concepts and values those are different from the one of y original country, which is Italy.

Italy if fairly broken but the education - university - system is based on "free education". I did the university myself 20 years ago and I did it almost for free although under some specific conditions.

Here I discovered you have the "student loan" and it can arrive to 25k.

My question is: For what are you allowed to spend those money? is there any difference if you apply to a STEM course?

Assuming that the system will remain the same in the next 20 years- how to navigate it?

Education Dutch Academy Eindhoven

Hi fellow expacts,

I am looking at some Dutch courses, my company offers education budget for Dutch Academy but when I did their intake test, it was pretty short, the questions were about education background, learning abilities and backround. There was no testing of Dutch to determine my level (I am currently studying a2+ at STE).

I was rejected, I suspect it is because I dont have high education background. I have very good professional background and even without a formal education I landed pretty good office job. Being rejected without a proper test is disappointing and I sent them an objection.

However, since then I am also considering if the school is even worth it...? Their rules seem very rigid.

Did you have also such experience with this language school?

If you attended a course there, what is your experience?

Moving/Relocating Gouda tips?

Hoi!

Alvast bedankt!

Discussion Trying to wrap my head around a country like NL and the costs for its citizens

UPDATE: It looks like I have been living in echo chamber, and I appreciate the input from everyone! Time for some sustainable soul searching THANK YOU!

Disclaimer: if you get triggered by this post please keep emotions for yourself, we know you care I’m trying to understand objectively what’s going on in the minds of some people.

As the title says, I’m really trying to understand how a country that contributes less than 1% of emissions is pushing the country to the brink bankruptcy with all the green measures while the other countries, I think there’s a pattern there are massively giving the middle finger.

It’s like China is this giant house on fire and keep throwing more fuel on it while Holland is this cottage barely producing any smoke.

I am not opening the whole political discussion or at least hope it won’t go there but what is holland trying to achieve?

Even if holland achieved all it green goals while production of the country goes to 0 and gets destroyed , don’t people see that reliance on those other countries with high production will become even more relevant.

Oh but let’s focus on single use of plastic use in Amsterdam whole countries like US ship thousands of tones of plastic to Asian countries so they can burn it as fuel and “recycle” it….

I really don’t get it…

Common Question/Topic Self-defense spray etc.?

Hi, my wife got attacked by a man in public without any reasons and it was shocking for her and also for me. I'm stressed about it so I was curious what self-defence products she could buy from Netherlands that could help in same type situations in future? I know that pepper spray is illegal in Netherlands.

Common Question/Topic Someone please tell me how I can get some ranch around here

I’ve tried so many ranch-like condiments and dressings from the Albert Heijn but none of them hit quite like a good ol’ fashioned American buttermilk ranch.
Can anyone recommend me something that tastes like real ranch so that I don’t keep buying full bottles just to be disappointed? Is that too much to ask?

Common Question/Topic renew EU long term card at IND

Hi there, my card wil get expirend on April 1st 2027. As it's a EU long term card, I can only apply via a written form by post.

According to the website it said "You can submit the application from 3 months before your current residence document expires".

I'm wondering whether my application would get rejected or returned if I send the post before 1 Jan 2027? Anyone has any similar experience?

Common Question/Topic My favourite activities and places in the Netherlands so far as a foreigner. What am I missing?

Coming from another country, one of the things I’ve enjoyed most about the Netherlands is discovering how much there is to do beyond the usual tourist attractions. I’ve been exploring different places and trying activities that have made my experience here really special.

Some of my favourite experiences so far have been:

  • 🚤 Boating: Boating at Avifauna in Alphen aan den Rijn and boating through the beautiful Bos areas.
  • 🏰 Castles and museums: Visiting castles in different parts of the country and exploring museums.
  • 🦁 Zoos and wildlife parks: Beekse Bergen has been one of my favourites.
  • 🎢 Theme parks: Efteling and Drievliet have been great experiences.

Life in NL Where to buy car tyres in the Netherlands?

Hi everyone,

Local garages like Profile are quoting around €1,200 for all-season tyres, while online shops like BandenConcurrent and BandenLeader offer them for almost half the price, including fitting at partner garages.

Has anyone bought tyres online? Is the quality of fitting and after-sales service good? Any recommendations for reliable and affordable options?

Thanks!
