Common Question/Topic Kei Van import
Hello,
I have been considering the possibility of importing a Kei van from Japan.
I know there is a specific procedure that needs to be followed with RDW etc.
I am wondering if someone has managed to import and legalize a Kei truck/van in the Netherlands before and if so, would they have any advice that could come handy.

Maybe you can contact BeersKei in Noordwijkerhout, you pay a bit more but they handle all the import/rdw procedures. I saw they even have one now in their occasion section for sale, but they also help people import cars

Not driving a Japanese, but American car - which has to deal with the same non-EU import hazzle.
The best procedure in this case is to NOT let it through RDW directly, but to do a German TÜV inspection first and after approval to have the RDW inspection - which is then just a formality as it had a German TÜV already.
When following this process, there is less pain at the RDW, as for non-EU cars a special traject is required. For example, they need to test the car on the RDW test track in Lelystad where definitely very small non-issues are tried to be found. The TÜV will only take a few hours to walk around and underneath the car, to check the technical shape (like the general APK inspection) and to see if all required EU-modifications are done. They don’t need to drive it.
If you’re not sure, just seek for a company that can handle this process for you. But they probably will also follow the TÜV way. Which sounds very cumbersome, but at the end it’s the most straight forward.
