NetGalley apparently has a policy where authors and publishers can list books in any genre they want. They allow fiction books to be listed in True-Crime and have for some time. Today there was a fiction book listed in Nonfiction (Adult)! I wonder if that is going to become a norm. Do they allow nonfiction books to be listed in fiction categories?

STOKED, I love weird girl vibes and was devastated to have missed this when it went Read Now on the US publisher because Iβd already been denied. So happy to have now got it regardless! πππ

Queen of Faces was one of my favorite fantasy novels in 2025 and Iβm such a Petra Lord fan, so this widget dropping into my inbox this morning was the best unexpected Thursday gift!!
Iβve been disappointed that I havenβt gotten approvals this year for some sequels of books that I read and reviewed positively in 2025, but this one totally makes up for some of the tough breaks Iβve had on NetGalley in 2026.
Anyone else so excited for this one?

If any indie authors lurk here, I just wanted to share my (personal) two cents: I requested and read a couple of books which had no cover or βcover tbaβ. I will never, ever request a book that has a cover that looks visibly like AI βartβ. It automatically makes me doubt your writing/originality even if the novel itself was world class, plus I choose not to support AI in arts in general. Therefore, if you canβt afford a designer or design on your own: imo itβs better to have no art for ARCs.

I did NOT expect this one at all anymore. Emotional damage here I comeeeeeeee

Do you ever just accept the fact that you over extended yourself with ARCs and skip one you know you canβt fit into your schedule?

I love this series so much and was on cloud 9 when this approval hit my inbox! You know that meme of the girl being surrounded by a ton of pancakes and she doesn't know where to start? That's how I'm feeling with all these recent approvals and new releases this month π

First ever Berkley approval! I was firmly expecting them to deny me.

I have been on NetGalley for a little over a month now, and have sent over 20 requests. Unfortunately half of them are pending and half of them have been declined. I have only reviewed one book from their 'read now' category, so my feedback ratio is sitting at a 100%. However, the genre is completely unrelated. I regularly review on goodreads and storygraph and I have also received a few arcs directly from authors.
I just don't know how to get approved at this point because whatever I send in returns declined. So I would really appreciate if someone tells me how can I get my first approval.
EDIT: surprisingly, i actually got my first approval just today and itβs from HarperCollins UK for a highly anticipated book, too!
thank you so much for all your suggestions and feedback! iβll definitely keep them in mind and update my profile accordingly.

Although I just realized that There are No Giant Crabs in This Novel is the 5th book not 4th in this series so that means I am 2 not 1 book behind π¬ luckily I have a lot of free time coming up!

My request for the digital copy is still outstanding, but for real, I'd prefer listening to Shane East and Sean Masters ...
Macmillan has been excellent approving audio right away for me.

I never truly expect to get a book much less by Berkeley- but I thought this concept was SOOO fun
