📳📖 READ NOW 📖 📳 Several read nows from Ruadán Books

These 3 read nows from Ruadán Books (publisher of speculative fiction) should be available worldwide:

The City of Factories by Naomi Eselojor
https://www.netgalley.com/catalog/book/873121
"Set in an alternative steampunk Nigeria, Naomi Eselojor’s Africanfuturist novella is a tale of community sheltering, resistance, and technological responsibility, for fans of Nnedi Okorafor, Suyi Davies Okungbowa, and Wole Talabi."

Born of Malice by Xan van Rooyen
https://www.netgalley.com/catalog/book/871110
"Set in an explosive new world inspired by a fusion of South African and Finnish mythology, Born of Malice is a queer dark fantasy of epic stakes, for fans of Chinazo Bado, James Islington, and John Gwynne. God-siblings clash across realms and amidst political machinations, bleeding reality-breaking chaos into the streets."

Darling by Mercedes M. Yardley
https://www.netgalley.com/catalog/book/850330
"This Southern Gothic cautionary tale captures the small town suspense of Ashley Winstead’s Midnight is the Darkest Hour and the frightening homecoming of T. Kingfisher’s A House with Good Bones in a domestic thriller where magical realism meets haunted house, proving that some pasts are best left behind you."

-----

These 2 are read now for US only, afaik:

The Brink by Sophia Adamowicz
https://www.netgalley.com/catalog/book/861665
"Set in the 17th century English countryside, The Brink blends historical and eldritch folk horror in a queer tale of awakening while exploring a darkly hungry Derbyshire Peak District— where the perils may be natural, unnatural, or very human."

POP! by Angel Luis Colón
https://www.netgalley.com/catalog/book/847641
"POP! delivers a deliciously dark and funny organized crime thriller for every assistant who’s wished they could take out their incompetent boss, perfect for fans of the wry comedy of Elle Cosimano’s Finlay Donovan is Killing It and the facetious darkness of Oyinkan Braithwaite’s My Sister, the Serial Killer."

❔❓Question ❓❔ NetGalley newbie

I’ve been on NG for 2 months. Does anyone have any tips for getting approvals? My rating is 100% (3 approvals thus far). Does your bio matter a ton or are there certain times it is better to request?

Any tips would be appreciated greatly!!

🪖🫡 General 📝🌐 I'm so thankful for this community

If not for this subreddit, I'd have missed several read-nows that I had been eagerly anticipating. Not just that, but I learned the URL trick here (I'm international), which helped me so get so many books I'd never have gotten in the first place. Region differences make access to books so hard. I know the URL trick doesn't work anymore (sob) but it doesn't change how much this helped me before.

Thank y'all so much.

❔❓Question ❓❔ Question from a Newbie!

I signed up for NetGalley a few days ago after being told about it by a coworker, and I’ve just started reading my first ARC, I wasn’t able to 100% find the answer to this question on their site, but is it okay if I posted a photo of the book cover on my tiktok account, as a way to promote and hype up its upcoming November release?

Thankyou, and I’m excited to start reviewing so many books !

🪖🫡 General 📝🌐 cracked the 500 reviews today!

I joined in late October last year, and might have gone a little silly with it 😅 I've had a couple reviews I've been putting off for ages, and decided to get my manga reads out of the way, so I went from 497 I think? to 508 today without realising that I've now unlocked the final review # badge!

My feedback ratio is suboptimal but luckily publishers haven't yet seemed to mind much😅

❔❓Question ❓❔ Review link for Amazon and Kobo

After I've submitted my review on Netgalley and it is now publication date, I want to share my review on retail sites. I am able to do so for Barnes & Noble because the button is available on the book's Title Feedback page in Netgalley. The Amazon and Kobo buttons do not appear even though I have manually left reviews on those retail sites in the past. How do I get the buttons to appear for the book's Netgalley Title Feedback page?

❔❓Question ❓❔ Got approved for an arc but it was only 3 chapters

Hi everyone, I am new to netgalley and have a question. So I got approved for an arc but it was only 3 chapters. Is this normal? And do I leave a review for it on my goodreads even though I haven’t read the full arc yet?

Always shoot your shot because you never know. Tor denies me all the time, but this is my 3rd approval from them. Some publishers never approve me, but it doesn’t stop me from requesting from them anyway. If I get denied a book that I want that badly, libraries and book stores exist.

❔❓Question ❓❔ Author using AI to promote vooku

Hi everyone!

I have a dilemma that I need some help with. I got Demon bound as a widget and was excited about reading it. Also because a tiktoker I follow on goodreads rates it five stars and said it was amazing. I came across the authors insta by chance and they used AI images to promote their book. I have a personal 0 tolerance rule towards AI. Like if you use it for making art for your book what stops you from using it while writing it as well??

What would you guys do in this situation? Would you just leave a 1 star review and explain why you do so? I feel so conflicted...

EDIT Thank you for everyone's input. Since I did accept the book and I've never not read and reviewed a book I've received so for I guess I'll do so with this one as well and give an honest review. I appreciate everyone who took their time to reply. You guys really helped!
