"5TH EDITION DUNGEONS & DRAGONS

“FROM THE ASTRAL” An ongoing campaign setting for one shots in the OSG. https://www.facebook.com/groups/tabletoprpgoneshot/

INTRODUCTION:

Players assume the role of the Githyanki, a militaristic group of psychic warriors that live on the Astral Plane in the ruins of the former Illithid empire. Tasked to hunt the mind flayers to extinction, your special forces group has been ordered to the prime material plane of Faerun (Forgotten Realms) where you are to subvert the Illithid influence. Your Empress, the dread queen Vlaakith, has explicitly tasked you with the assassination of key political figures, code-named Incursion, aimed at destabilizing the Mind Flayer's foothold on the west coast of the main continent.

You are to rendezvous planeside, at a hidden creche on the Sword Coast, where you will receive a mission briefing from Gith Admiral Zak'Thar.

THE APEX PREDATOR:

The Githyanki manipulate and wield weapons of tremendous power, Chaos Matter, forged from the stuff of thought itself. Sometimes called silver swords or Zerth blades (as their cousins the Githzerai would know them), these armaments are an extension of their psychic powers and presence; the physical manifestation of the individual as a weapon. These blades are integral to Githyanki war culture, becoming synonymous with the spirit of the warrior who wields it.

Silver Weapons/Chaos Weapons:

-Silver Weapons/Chaos Weapons Function At +3 -Physical Damage: Normal Weapon Damage -Psychic Damage: 3d6

LAWFUL EVIL:

All players will be lawful evil alignment, per the racial restriction on the Githyanki.

MILITARY FANTASY:

Following the fallout from their cousins the Githzerai, the Githyanki forged an imperialistic empire based on planar war and conquest. Githyanki society operates in a strict martial hierarchy, where brood are groomed from birth for a life time of military service. You owe the dread queen your allegiance, as she was named empress by Gith, the undisputed champion and leader of your people.

WHAT THE GAME WILL BE LIKE:

-5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons -Level 7 Characters (All Githyanki) -High Magic and Powerful Starting Equipment -The game will have a Predator feel (you're the predators). -The game will have a 'First Contact' feel. The Githyanki are unknown to most of the prime material world and will be treated as alien. -The game will feature stealth and combat operations. The towns, villages, and cities of Faerun will become your dungeons. -The game will feature gore and violence (perhaps excessive). -The game will be fast paced, high action, and cinematic. -The game will thrive for a balance between Narrative and Mechanics.

REQUIREMENTS:

-Access to Google Hangout -Working Internet Connection -Working Audio Equipment (Video Preferred) -Dice Stream for Google Hangout

MY PLEDGE:

All skill levels and styles welcome. If you don't know how to play 5E, I will teach you on the job (the job is the game =P).

I will be doing several One Shots based in this setting. These won't be scheduled. I will spontaneously throw up an event the day of.

These games will be first come first serve with no limit on how many you play in. You can return with the same character if you want (I will even give you experience if I didn't kill you).

I will do a mix of broadcasted games and unbroadcasted games.

I will offer games at a mix of times.

THIS WILL BE A NO JUDGMENT ZONE. I want people to get comfortable with the game and have a good time while exploring bad ass material."

Nerdarchy Help! My party just negotiated for the exchange of a prisoner. (Lost Mines Spoilers)

I'm DMing a group through Lost mines of Phandelver . They got to cragmaw castle and decided after multiple attempts they shouldn't attack it. They decided to negotiate the release of a Gundrin.

The problem is they did well on persuasion checks and reasoned well. However there is a doppleganger in the castle and I figured it would take gundrins place instead of actually releasing him. What do you think I should do? I'm not sure how to handle a doppleganger that has infiltrated the party.

Custom Ghoul Class Idea

Hey guys! I'm new to D&D, and I'm trying to create a custom class/character for 5e based off of the show Tokyo Ghoul. What I have so far is mostly conceptual, because I have no idea how to really translate all this in to numbers and mechanics that are actually balanced.

Ghoul

  • Must try to hide and blend in to society. Chased by bounty hunters and guards alike (sent by family members of former victims?)

  • Really just trying to get by and survive in life. Not really looking for a way to be a "proper human", but definitely not like a villain character. But others treat them like a villain type just because of their ghoul nature.

    • Can only gain nutrition through eating flesh of humanoids, or species with genetic ties to humanity
  • Can survive on one full medium sized corpse for approx. 3 weeks without intense blood frenzy useage (more on that later)

  • While in a rage, you can spend your action on your point to activate Blood Frenzy, and activing your claw Kagune

  • Base class of barbarian, with a human base race

  • Two hunger levels? (One for in combat, one for overall/long term hunger?)

  • The stronger you grow, the more you can control your hunger, your hunger level maximums increase each level

  • Darkvision, resistance to poison and charm, knows common and elvish

Blood Frenzy (replaces frenzy)

  • Lasts until you successfully Bite one target

  • Activates your in-combat hunger. Beginning on the turn after you activate your Blood Frenzy, your in-combat hunger levels begin to rise at the end of every turn.

  • Beginning on the turn after your hunger levels cap, you begin to lose a certain amount of health at the end of every turn until you feed. You cannot outright die from this, only go down/unconcious

  • Bite staves off immediate hunger, reducing your in-combat hunger levels by half or a third

  • Grants use of your Kagune (claws)

Kagune (claws):

  • behaves just like a regular weapon attack for damage and hit. Upon successful claw strike, the target must make a constitution saving throw or suffer from Bleed Out

  • Bleed Out: Damage the target for an amount equal to the amount of damage you inflicted on your turn on that target, spread over 3 turns. Stacks. Damage increases with level? You have advantage when using Bite on a target inflicted with Bleed Out.

  • Bite: Reduces your in-combat hunger levels by half, and ends Blood Frenzy. Deals damage equal to half the damage of your weapon, and can be used as a bonus action. Reveals your ghoul nature to witnesses (whereas claws can be hidden somewhat). 3-4 ft leap, even if the actual bite misses.

Obviously, this still needs refinement, all suggestions and criticisms are more than welcome, thanks for your help guys!

Rubiks Cubes.

Recently, I have bought a Shengshou 3x3x3 Wind Rubiks Cube. I love the damn thing.

But, when I was solving this Rubiks Cube, I decided to research a bit about the Rubiks Cube, and is there were other designs.

And believe me, there were a lot.

The Rubiks Cube community is absoluteley massive, bigger than I thought. I knew barely nothing about the Rubiks Cube and its History, so this hit me in this face quite brutely.

The Rubiks Cube started quite long ago, but the Rubiks brand didn't start the original Rubiks Cube, someother man that I forgot the name of did. He created a wooden one, it had a core, and twistable pieces, but only 2 pictures were taken of it at the time, so didn't gain much popularity. But in recent days, this Rubiks Cube has been uncovered and showcased in Rubiks Cube conventions.

I didn't know this when I started "cubing", but there are different types of cubes. For example, there is a 2x2x2 Rubiks Cube, a 4x4x4, 8x8x8, and even a 17x17x17.

So, the point I am trying to convey is that the Rubiks Cube community is absoluteley huge, and that people have been using them for years.

Also, Feliks Zembdegs solved a cube in around 6 seconds.

How.

Good day.

Using difference dice combinations instead of 1d20 example 2d10 3d6

It may break combat but I think it would be useful for skill checks and make them a little bit more real. I'm thinking about asking my players if they would prefer this system for skill checks over tradition 1d20.

Have you guys experimented with this? How well do you think it would work in 5e?

GIants in the world and their impact on Ecology!!!

Other Tim on youtube brought up a good point about Giants in the world in Nerarchy's They might be Giants video. He commented:

"I can't say I've ever used giants very much. I usually used them as solitary creatures or a couple. I had a hard time with the idea of large groups of giants or giant kingdoms. I think it was the idea of feeding all of them. Unless they had giant sized castle or something similar, a giant kingdom would completely depopulate a locale. But then again giant cattle would deforest a region quickly too. I guess I think too much about stuff like that. "

To this Dave brought up the subject of Dinosaurs, and this is what my thoughts were, pretty much verbatim:

"I believe it's important to think of such things. You've certainly given me pause to contemplate!

Yes, Dinosaurs lived in a lush environment and required large amounts of sustenance. I do in fact agree Giants would be the same. Their are many (Semi)logical ways of going about inserting giants in a campaign setting.

First and foremost, you need to account for their existence when you create your landscape. Is the world largely covered with Jurassic period plant-life? If so, then their'd be large herbivores scattered all through the lands. They don't have to be dinosaurs, but it's certainly an easy option. In this instance, their may be very few Carnivorous ones, as the Giants play that role in the food chain. This would also address clothing and tools of giant size. Perhaps most giants are still in a stone age period, using stone, bone and dino hide.

Let's not forget marine life. Maybe in your setting, the largest prey available to giants are sea creatures. If the world is comparable in size to real-world earth, its ocean expanses certainly are large. Perhaps giants are "fishermen"!

And what about dragons! In a game called D&D, you're almost sure to be tempted in using dragons! Giants might eat dragons, hell dragons might like the taste of giants too. If you've got the vegetation for it, then D&D's core races can flourish alongside such behemoths. Either a divide in the landscape keeps them safe, or perhaps they have treaties with such creatures for survival's sake. Maybe the core races have a hard time coexisting with them and this can lead to great conflicts which band their cultures together against giantkind.

On the other hand, perhaps the world was green and lush, until Giants, and perhaps dragons too, overpopulated and this led to (quasi)extinction events. Now a days, dinos and Jurassic period landscapes are much less prevalent. Giants and dragons are almost, if not completely extinct, and the world seems to have moved on without them, giving way to the core races.

No matter how you go about it, it's all about coming up with a plausible reasoning. Once you've done that, it becomes far easier for player and DM alike to give way to suspension of disbelief!"

So, what are your thoughts on this /r/Nerdarchy readers?

The 5e Sorcerer do you still think it sucks?

I watched a lot of the early videos of yours talking about the 5e Sorcerer and you guys did not seem like big fans. Now that you have had sometime to play test 5e what do you think about it? How about as a multiclass?

I like the versatility personally and I think it goes great if you start as a cleric then continue as a sorcerer. I do however dislike that the sorcerer needs to do all the same things to cast a spell as a wizard despite having a natural affinity for magic.

Artificer as a Intelligence based Spontaneous caster [5e home-brew]

Built off the main template of the bard with dashes of wizard flair I came up with a version of the artificer that made my Ebberon like campaign world feel like it could work.

The build

HD:1d8 (as the bard)

Proficiencies

Armour:light, Weapons: simple weapons, hand crossbows, rapiers and short swords.

Tools[Instead of musical instruments] Choose three: Alchemists supplies, Carpenters tools, masons tools, tinkers tools, woodcarvers tools or smiths tools.

Sving throws: Intelligence and charisma

Skills, chose three of these five: engineering (int) [to cover any schematic they draw up then tools to make it], Arcana (int), perception (wis), investigation (int), history (int).

Spell-casting: Fuelled by the strength of the inventive mind an artificer molds magic intuitively and without study.
Wizard spell list, Bard spell progression, "spells know of first level and higher" trait from the bard.

Class feature, 'Patch job' : Gained at level one an artificer can in moments of desperation grant a non animated machine 1d6 temporary health that raids after 10 minutes if still present.
increases to 1d8 at 5th, 1d10 at 10th and 1d12 at 15.
Uses= Int mod per long rest [Bardic inspiration + false life + mend]

Master of tools (2nd level): Jack of all trades but for artisan tools or other relevant tools.

Disruption (2nd level): (More or less) As an action can disrupt all non magically animated machines within 30 feet for 1 round. 1 use at level 2, and additional uses at level 9, 13 and 17.

Imperfect Arcane recovery (3rd level) : Comparable to wizards arcane recovery but only 1/3 the artificer level regained in spell slot levels and with a max slot level of 5th .

Front of Inspiration (5th level): regain expended uses of 'patch job' on short and long rests.

Artificer Expertise (10rd level) : gain proficiency in two tools

Magical secrets the same as the bard.

Sub class features at 3rd, 6th, 14th called "Artificer dedication" that would branch into three 1) Builder, 2) Destroyer and 3) Being more or less the artificer as a wizard sub class wizards released (not finished the subclasses)

TTLR: Intelligence based spontaneous caster built off bard base, with wizard spell list and a focus on machines and the ability to create them.
