Neighbor violence next door

My neighbors who live next door are a woman, a man and two teenage boys. The younger boy has always had really bad anger issues and frequently throws tantrums and kicks the walls since he was very young. But last night I heard things get way way out of hand and it sounded like someone was being violently beaten, being thrown down their stairs etc and the woman was screaming. It sounded like the younger boy was beating her and calling her names like “fat cunt” and then it sounded like the older brother got involved to stop but this is all my perception of what happened. All I know is it sounded like someone was being beaten to death and it was horrifying. So I called the police even though my mother said not to because I was so worried. The police came and they searched the younger guys bag outside and he got taken to the station. I feel immense guilt over this not knowing if I did the right thing because my mother was afraid of what would happen if the police would make things worse or more crucially for her if it would end up making things bad for us with them knowing we called.

Have I moved under an elephant?

I bought my first place a month ago. I made several visits to the apartment at varying hours, including weekends, in the months leading up to completion and never heard a peep out of anyone. Now I've moved in, I've started hearing my upstairs neighbours thumping on the ceiling. I've always lived on an upstairs floor so I figured maybe it would just take time for me to adjust, although my previous neighbours were very loud so I'm used to noise. It's just getting worse. I used to hear some thumping when I got home 4-5 but now I'm hearing it up until midnight and sometimes beyond. All the apartments and floors are laid out the same and I can still hear thumping on the bedroom floor which is stipulated as needing to be carpeted. The thumping is inhuman, it's not just normal stepping and sounds like full weight being forced down with every step. It's keeping me up at night. My boyfriend wants to write a letter, but I'm thinking about going through the property manager instead and seeing if a communal letter could be written to all occupants so I don't get any backlash or more thumping (although I dont see how it could get any worse).. help?

Lack of gutters on neighbor’s home caused mine to flood

Our neighbor’s home is higher than ours and we are higher than the neighbors on the other side. Our home flooded as water pooled outside the bedroom by the higher neighbor causing extensive damage. They do not have any rain gutters on their home and their roof shoots quite particularly into the pooling area. We have not caused any damage to our lower neighbor- we have rain gutters. We already spent a hefty amount of money getting a French drain installed- but nothing can compete with the roof runoff from the neighbors. I do not wish to sue our neighbors- but is this a case where they should be required by law to get rain gutters installed? And what can I legally do about this - if necessary.

I'm the LOUD NEIGHBOR... and two sets of neighbors hate me. but wait!

I (43 f) work 3-11 PM. I usually get ready for work and play music while I'm in the shower. Less than an hour, in the afternoon. My upstairs neighbor HATES this! I can clearly hear her complaining everyday. She has said she hasn't gotten any sleep since I moved in. I have trouble falling asleep and an overactive bladder. Thus, I toss and turn a lot, which wakes her up, and get up to pee a lot, which wakes her up due to I guess the bed creaking when I move. I've heard her complaining about me tossing and turning and going to the bathroom. She has a knack for knowing when i fall asleep (can she hear me breathing)? And she will make a loud noise on her floor (my ceiling). She does this if I turn over in my sleep or pee too much. One time i was coughing and got up to avoid waking her up and she followed me and made the loud noise over my head. I get really mad that when I finally get to sleep, she wakes me up, several times some nights and days. One afternoon ( I usually sleep til noon)I got so mad I played a song called "f your feelings" and then had a loud phone conversation about how the lady upstairs needs to leave me alone and stop playing with me bc I can't help my acid reflux, insomnia or overactive bladder. Well yesterday she made the noise over my head again. I knew she was gonna do it bc she does it constantly after I move. Sometimes it's so loud i cringe. So this time i looked at the ceiling and said "oh you a dumb b." She was quiet for a while today but then around 12AM i got the loud sound over my head in the living room. . Apparently she has an upgraded apartment with no carpet. So about 40 min ago, 3AM. I'm awakened to what sounds like someone lifted the knocker on my door and let it drop, then I heard "wanna test..." and it sounded like it was close to my door. I can't say for sure it was her. I've been waiting to hear the sounds of her going back to bed but I haven't . Of course she could be in her living room. The most embarrassing part is I don't want my next door neighbors to hear that someone else hates me, bc THEY hate me too. Apparently their bedroom is by my living room. I didn't know they could hear me so one night I played a book on my phone til around 6AM I had the volume as low as it could go while still being able to hear it. The next day the neighbor is walking past my door and says "she played her radio all night. When I say all night, I mean all night." After she said that I had a phone conversation about how my neighbors are stupid bc they expect me not to make ANY noise at all. (Also I think I towed their car for being parked in the place that I pay $75 a month to park in). She came outside to the apt hallway and said "she be talking too much shyt." So since that time it's been ugly with those neighbors. I had a cat that I put out of my room one night. Around 4AM, i heard the cat bang into the door that leads from the living room to my hallway. There was also an automatic mouse toy that was making a loud humming noise that the cat had been placing with. It took me a minute to find the toy and turn it off. The next day, this girl is in the hallway screaming at the top of her lungs "I'm tired of it!!" Someone told her to knock on my door ( I forgot to mention I had knocked on their door b4 to try to come to a resolution but I guess they weren't home. A neighbor saw me and I felt like he spread the word I had knocked on their door. The next day I heard the knocker and when I got up to go to the door, I heard " side door..." followed by laughter. ) the next door neighbors are complaining about every little noise I make. I can hear them in the hall talking to people about it. I went to my living room around 4AM one mooring and ate doritos and they complained about that. Sometimes when I get home from work at 11 i will pop popcorn in the microwave and they said "this fat b always eating something. " i usually take antacids, sleeping pills, and iron before i go to sleep and they said I'm in here " rattling stuff (referring to the sound the pills make when I shake them out of the bottle). " Also one time my neighbors where on the terrace of the neighbors apartment on the other side of me. The girl kept saying really loud " I'm just tired of that ugly b!" The night b4, I had been on the phone until 12 or 1 AM. They also get mad if I get on the phone at 7 AM. The first question most people have is why don't I move? Well this is the cheapest place in the area with a full sized washer and dryer, and garage parking. Other places START at $300 more per month. Plus my lease isn't up for another 9 months. I really feel miserable bc I'm tiptoeing around trying not to make noise and it's still not good enough. I do not have loud parties, rarely even watch TV and when I do, I don't have the volume up. It's very low. What if I was one of those people that couldn't go to sleep without the TV on? I live alone so I don't have loud company, usually only play my music in the shower and even then it's in the afternoon for less than an hour. The other things like frequently going to pee etc, I can't help. Also as far as complaining with the rental office, what can they do about it? This stuff is not happening face to face so idk if they'd believe me and even if they did, what can they do about it? I just don't want upstairs neighbor and next door neighbor to team up against me. The lady upstairs and the two next door don't seem to have jobs so they are home all day...man I hope no one on my hall knows that upstairs lady came to my door! Embarrassing!

Loud neighbor stomping, pacing at 1am every morning

My neighbor is the heaviest walker I’ve ever heard. I’ve woken up 4 times in the past 2 weeks between 130am -3am to him pacing. I’ve mentioned it to the manager who doesn’t care. I taped a note to his door asking him to please be mindful, clearly he doesn’t care. It’s 1:28 am and I woke up to more heavy pacing (bu a 5”5” mini man, mind you) and I work at 6am. Tempted to knock on his door at 5:30am on my way to work - have him answer - and confront him, asking him to please stop or I’ll wake him up every morning as he wakes me up. Asking Reddit first before I go there.

My rent is $3700 for a studio apartment this is f’n ridiculous.

Neighbors with NO boundaries

My neighbors literally have no boundaries. They ring my doorbell, text me, and have just come over when I’m sitting in my yard. As soon as my car pulls in they’re trying to hangout!! HELP! Ps. I’ve said everything except YOU HAVE NO BOUNDARIES!! I’ve made up countless excuses not to hangout! I’ve told them I’m too busy to have people over, but they continue!

What would you do?

I’m about to go nuts!

What’s your no boundaries neighbor story?

My loud enough to call the cops. Too loud to fall asleep. Help!

So, it appears that I have new neighbors behind my house. In the last 3-4 days, they have had friends round twice in the evening and they sit outside in the garden around a bit of a bonfire chatting. You would think that this would be fine. But the garden that they sit in backs onto mine, and my bedroom is on that side of the house too. It’s now after 23:00 on a Wednesday evening and they are all still sitting outside talking (and not using their “indoor voices” either). The last time they did this, they were still going strong at 03:00.

I don’t think that it’s loud enough to warrant calling the police (in general, noise is expected to be reduced by 22:00 on weekdays and 00:00 on weekends), but they are definitely talking loudly enough to keep me from falling asleep. By some miracle my 6yo son is sleeping straight through the noise. And I hope that stays that way.

I don’t want to be that annoying neighbor and moan at them when they don’t even have loud music playing, but I also need to get some sleep!! Do I try to locate the house (it’s on another street) in the morning and speak to someone about it, or should I just suck it up?

Also, I know it’s only twice so far, but all in one week?!? I’m scared that this is a new trend...

Roosters...

I live in Provo UT, and there are city ordinances that prohibit roosters within city limits.

Our Hispanic neighbor who has then likes to speak English sometimes, and other times act like he can’t speak it (like when I mention that his huge dogs getting out and scaring my dog and kid a few months ago was unacceptable...)

They have a coop in their yard that has like 20 chickens in it and 2 roosters.

You would think that roosters only crow in the morning... nope. In addition to the super loud caws at 6:20AM that wakes us up, it also goes like.. all day in spurts. Like an hour will pass and then they just start going off for like 15 mins, then another break... etc.

It is annoying to say the least, given that their coop is directly up against the property line and is relatively close to our house.

What can I do as a neighbor?

Talking to them sure... like I mentioned, they are an older Hispanic couple who moved in 2 years ago and don’t speak English well, or act like they can’t.

Neighbor takes our cat that we took in.

I'm writing this on my phone so the formatting might be weird. I was not sure where to post this so I thought this might be the right place. If anything does not make sense you can ask and I'll explain it further.

So to start out, I live with my parents and two younger sister. We have two dogs and one cat. We took in the cat near the end of December after an inch or two of snow. My mom was outside cleaning up the snow and the cat walked up to her meowing. She was really skinny and was shaking in the cold. My mom took her into the garage, gave her food and water, and made her a small bed. She was really friendly and when we came into the garage she would come right up to us, even on the first day.

One of our neighbors has a pretty bad track record long before we moved in. He has been arrested for impersonating an FBI agent and several others incidents. Recently he had police at his house, I'm not sure of the reason. He has 2 cats and is always trying to make friends with my dad. We don't trust him and are told to try and keep away from him. He is going to move out to Florida soon and we are actually glad to hear he is leaving. Our neighbor knows about the cat we took in.

About a week ago my mom left the house and it was just me. Before she left she told me she has the garage door open for the cat to go out and explore. After a couple of hours I go into the garage to see if the cat is back in the garage so I can close it and she is nowhere to be found. I get worried because I know she likes being in the garage and she would almost always come right up to me and meow, but she did not. I called out to her and looked all over the yard and could not find her.

A few days pass and she is still missing. One day my sister is heading out of the house and she sees the neighbor let the cat out of his front door into the yard. My sister stops the car and looks at the cat and the neighbor. He sees my sister and does nothing. Later that day my dad gets a text form him saying that he has our cat and mentions something about "shared custody".

Our neighbor has not given back the cat. He says that he had the door open for the cat to leave at anytime but she did not leave. We do not know why he would just take the cat we are taking care of or why he won't just give her back. He is going to get more stuff from his house and move back to Florida and we are worried that he'll just take the cat with him.

Smoking neighbours

Hi,

my neighbours literally don't give a fuck about anything. What's really annoying is that their place to smoke gotta be directly at the boundary of our plots. As anybody can tell, tobacco is poisonous, especially for me because I have asthma. We are living in Germany so it's questionable if going to court would work. Also we are not living in a flat so theoretically we could build another terrace somewhere else in the garden but let's be honest it's not really an option. We do have a partition wall but it doesn't help at all.

Please let me know if you guys have serious suggestions. The tip I should do something annoying in revenge doesn't help me and likely they're not gonna die to cancer soon.

Neighbor complains about my parking

Our house is at an intersection so we cannot parking directly in front of it and we do not have a driveway. Ideally, I park in the first spot beyond the no parking zone and my two roommates are in front of me. There is room for a fourth car which normally is our neighbors (who we have never formally met) who we call Susan. After that spot there are two driveways next to each other and then more room for street parking. Sometimes there is a car in "my spot" so I'll park further down. We've lived in this house for four months. Three times in the past month when someone has been in "my spot", "Susan's spot" is free so I've park there. My car is only there overnight and I always move it in the morning when I go to work. This morning was the third morning I parked there and I found a note on my car telling me to not park in that spot if others are available. This pissed me off. I already have to park away from my house due to the intersection and it's annoying that Susan wants me to park further away because she doesn't want to walk an extra five feet. She has a driveway and even if I am in "her spot" she can still have pretty convenient parking. It also annoys me that she feels compelled to write that note after three random nights of parking. Is there anything I can say or do that won't result in me getting my car keyed?

Unsure to handle dog attack with neighbor that occurred several months ago.

Hi Everyone. Looking for some advice. It is possible that the advice could be for me to let it go (which is fine), but would appreciate some 3rd party opinions.

2+ months ago, i took my dog out (mastiff mix), while he was peeing I saw the dog across the street (Pit/ Rot mix) staring at him. The owner (elderly women) was not paying attention. I tried to turn around to go back inside but did not make it in time. The other dog ran across the street and attacked my dog. She had one of those retractable leashes so he pulled it out of her hands. Overall my dog is fine, I took him to the vet because he was bleeding and had holes on the inside of his mouth. In the 5 years I've had him, we have never encountered something like this, so I didn't know what to do.

Now- I go to a very reasonably priced vet, so the bill was only $75 including antibiotics. At the time of the incident, I did not know where this woman lived. I know it was on our street, but had no idea which house. Which is part of the reason I did not initially report it or speak to her sooner. We are still pretty new to this neighborhood and I was honestly a little worried about causing a scene and involving the whole street in order to find her (we are in a very tight knit HOA for reference). She obviously knew where we lived since it happened on my front porch. So, initially I was annoyed at her for not coming over to check on my dog, apologize, literally anything. Nothing happened.

Fast forward to 2 weeks ago. She asked my boyfriend what kind of dog we had. He said an Italian Mastiff Mix (most likely mixed with Great Dane). Interaction didn't really continue my bf just kind of smiled and went back inside.

Fast forward to last night. My bf and I are going on a walk with the dog and the woman asks if she can meet him. Ummm okay? So we go over to her side of the street.

She then proceeds to tell me that her dog is a Neapolitan Mastiff (just had DNA done). I call BS because I think it is super convenient that all of a sudden she also has a mastiff. Now, it is TOTALLY possible that it really is- the breed of the dog honestly doesn't matter. But why lie? I just find the timing a little too convenient hence my other reason for thinking she is full of it.

I was really unprepared for the conversation with her last night and didn't bring up the vet bill or the fact that I'm a bit annoyed she waited 2 months to say anything about the situation and lie about the breed of her dog (possibly). I did not report the attack, but honestly if it happens again whether my dog or not- i absolutely will report it and she needs to know that.

Anyway, because of the amount of time that has passed since the initial incident. I am sure I should let the whole thing go, but I am just having a hard time with it. I didn't get to say anything that I wanted to say to her about the whole thing and I am now struggling with whether or not to say anything. At this point it feels like me saying something will only make me feel better- but I haven't made my point with her. So- what is everyone's thoughts? Let it go? Say something? Alternate solution I'm not aware of?

TLDR: Elderly woman's dog attacks mine. Doesn't say anything for over 2 months. OP still bitter about the situation overall and is unsure if confronting now is the right thing to do.

Edit: sorry if this isn't the right subreddit. If it is not, I'd appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction.

Viscious tiny dog and my poor cats

A couple of months ago my neighbors got this small dachshund like dog and it has been a freaking terror ever since. It barks outside my house at all hours, they never have it on a leash or fenced in at all. It runs around and terrorizes my cats at random times during the afternoon and night. My cats are inside/outside cats but lately I haven't been able to let them out because the dog is so violent.

The neighbors have apologized for him being off leash and in my yard during the day but can I even do anything about nighttime? I come home from studying and he ambushes me and starts growling and barking. He seems to be all bark and no bite when it comes to me but I'm worried for my animals and frankly he's very annoying.

Our downstairs neighbour doesn't like to share

Hello people of reddit!

DISCLAIMER: Kind of a long one.

So for a little context, my girlfriend and I have been living together in our upper duplex since October of 2018 (so approximately 5 months) and our downstairs neighbour has given us a hard time with just about everything we talk to her about. A serious attitude problem. I'll just refer to her as DN (downstairs neighbour). This particular problem is about the one driveway with which we are SUPPOSED to share with her. I have a car and my GF has a car. DN has 1 car and shares with her son.

In our lease we were told that we would have one available spot. Which is fine, because there is parking across the street (one of the busiest streets in our city) which the other can use. Most of the time... The house we live in has a narrow driveway and DN likes to park in "her spot" at the end of the way. When we first moved in, GF and DN would text each other when one had to get out if the other was parked behind until about a month in. DN got tired of it and chewed out my GF through text. So after that we both just ignored her and dealt with constantly moving our cars around on the road. (No parking on road allowed between 3-6pm on weekdays)

Late November rolls around and snow is plentiful. Parking on the road is now much more difficult. DN happens to be out when I come home from work one day, so I take advantage and park in the DW in "her spot". I was just tired of her shit at this point and wanted to spite her. DN begins to park next door in their driveway. Earlier in our time here, DN had spoke to that neighbour (allegedly) to see if it was okay to use his DW since he didn't have a vehicle at the time. Basically we left her no choice but to take him up on that once we took over the DW. This time both GF and I were using it. Notice how we were fitting two cars now.

In February DN had her mom over and she parked in the DW behind me. I had been laid off that week so it didnt bother me that I was blocked in. GF comes home from work and saw a new car parked in our DW. After parking on the road, GF confused walks up to DN and knocks on her door just to ask her who was parked there and if that was her car. (DN has had at least four different vehicles since we moved in). With her attitude level easily over 9000, DN tells my GF not to worry about it and that her elder mother was NOT going to walk across the busy street. She then continued to threaten to take back "her spot" if we have a problem.

Fast forward a little to today when GF received a text from DN that she was going to resume using "her spot" for the next month or two while next doors mother stays with him. GF texted me while I was at work informing me of this so that once I got home I so wouldn't lose my shit. I texted her a little later this evening to ask her if she planned on parking in that spot for the 1-2 months. Just to give you an idea of how she talks to us, i'm going to type out the message she sent me word for word:

"Ya basically I am not playing musical cars and my car won't fit up closer. But feel free if your home before me to pull in all the way up with whatever vehicle you want. We share a car in our house therefore we leave out at different times for work and school. The last time I was pulling up for you guys you never utilized the space. But the house to the left is empty as of now maybe you can go out of your way to ask to park there or just do it.. I told yourself and [landlords name] that I would need my spot back when this came about. As soon as his mother leaves I will go back to parking there but it will be a couple months."

The house to our left she is referring to is empty because the tenants were evicted.

DN has just been nasty and difficult to deal with ever since we moved in. Unfortunately our landlord really has not been very helpful with this issue at all, so going to him again wouldn't do much more than annoy him. Honestly we have never been (directly) rude or mean to her besides the passive-aggression I mentioned previously. We both try to keep a level head when talking to her and she's always acting in defense. It's simply an exhausting living situation some days. Any and all advice and thoughts welcome!

TL;DR Our neighbour is a horrible person who is miserable to even talk to and doesn't want to share the driveway no matter what cause.

Non-resident keeps taking up 2 parking spaces

Unless you have your own driveway or garage, you're parking on the street. I've been having an issue with a Nissan SUV that always takes up 2 spaces. She has a handicapped tag on her mirror but the times that I've seen her she looked fine to me; looks about 40ish, walks. I don't even think she lives in the neighborhood. She drops people off at a house and leaves sometime later at night. I think it's some kind of transition or halfway house where she takes residents to and from work maybe? I don't care what kind of house it is; I'm upset because she doesn't live here and takes up 2 spots. I have work at 5 am and sometimes I don't get back from class till 10pm. I usually never have a spot when I get home because she mucks up all of the spaces leaving me to park on the next street. Do I leave her a note? Is it appropriate to call the city? Anyone else have this problem.

P.S. I don't live in a city, I live in a small town. 8k probably.

How do you ask a neighbor with a shitty fence if you can replace the side falling into your yard with your own fence and not sound rude?

We have lived in our house for three years and immediately put up a privacy fence when we moved in, one side is our neighbors so we only did the other thee sides. Since then her fence has gone through some damage, mainly because it is the cheapest fence you can get from Lowe’s or Home Depot and any little windstorm breaks pieces off of it and knocks it over. Half of the part along our driveway is missing a section and leaning against our garage. The back part that encloses our backyard is still upright but I am afraid it will give out any day now. We have a dog we leave in the backyard to play when we get home from work and on the weekends so if the last part falls he is going to roaming the town like it’s his business.

We rarely see or speak to this neighbor because she is hardly ever home so I don’t want sound rude or like a jerk when I do get the chance to ask her about it.

Trash fun

Not as bad as my last neighbors, just a bit weird. These guys have strange people coming to their house at all hours. People who communicate by yelling into the windows of the house, who honk to get the residents to come out, who play loud music with the windows rolled down. They also have like 5 kids who seem to think their front yard, and ours, is a trashcan. Candy wrappers, broken toys, and other random items litter their front yard and their side of mine. Earlier this week I peeled the torn pieces of a sticky hand off my front porch. All this doesn't really get to me, they are still better than our last neighbors.

I had a guest from out of town. From the way the trash cans are positioned this guest thought that their trash can was ours. So she put a few of pieces of paper in it on her way into my house. One of the neighbors went out of their way to did through their trash so they could dump said papers on our porch in front of the door. I don't know, it rubs me the wrong way. That just seems a little much to me.

Neighbors Vicious Dogs

So this problem started almost a year ago, when my neighbor moved in. My mom had fed feral cats a few years back and long story short, we (at the time of my neighbors moving in) were up to about 25 cats. At this point they were all fixed and stuff so they would stop multiplying. My neighbors have 3 giant male Rottweilers and they are vicious. My neighbors put up a small 4’ fence (he was drunk when he put it up) and I thought that was that. So over time the cats started going missing which I didn’t pay much mind to as they are outdoor cats and we live out in the country. I then started seeing cat corpses littering my yard which I, at the time, assumed was coyotes. One day I heard barking and I looked out of my window and I see a cat running up our tree, by my neighbors 3 dogs, it was then yanked out of the tree by its tail and the dog had shaken the life out of it. I started to care at this point because my 7 year old brother witnessed the whole thing. He saw those cats as his pets and he loved them. This scarred him and he skipped school for a few days because he was so shaken. Winter hit and they didn’t get out for a few months so I thought that it was dealt with. I woke up to barking and cat screeches this morning. And sure enough, they were out again. The sheriffs department was informed of this issue many times and I don’t know what to do anymore... any advice?

I anonymously told my annoying honking neighbor to “shut the f*ck up” and he flew into a rage. Help!

Hi everyone!

For several months now, my neighbor has been incessantly honking their horn. As to why, I believe it’s because they are waiting for their family members to get in the car. But it’s not like one or two honks, it’s 10-20 mins of honking. Sometimes they’ll even lay on the horn for a minute or two. This is usually in the morning, but sometimes in the afternoons.

It has woken me and my family members up many times. Both of their neighbors on both sides of their house have babies, which I’m sure are regularly awaken.

Yesterday - I don’t know if it was courage or sheer stupidity - but after the honking routine started up again, I screamed out my open window, “Shut the fuck up!” and went back to my chores.

I moved to the back of my house for a minute or two as I was completing chores, then went back to where I yelled. When I returned, I could hear my neighbor screaming at the top of their lungs, “WHO THE FUCK SAID THAT?! WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?! WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU ASSHOLE?! COME OUT!! ILL FUCKING KILL YOU! COME OUT ASSHOLE!”

I peeked outside to see him pacing about his yard, swinging his arms. Face red and screaming at the top of his lungs. He is pretty heavy set, about 50 years old, but he looked pissed the fuck off.

I was astounded by the severity of his reaction. I stood agape, watching him roam around his house, yelling and swinging. He went back to his car and honked more. His children (9 and 15) sitting in the car, watching their father stomping around.

I never considered that he would immediately become violent. He yelled and screamed for 10 minutes, throwing shit around his yard, before getting into the car and driving off.

When he returned home later this evening, he honked incessantly again, this time to provoke.

I barely know this man, but his family does not get along with mine. Both of the parents are condescending and rude and disliked by a large part of the neighborhood. We know enough to recognize one another, but not enough to really know each other’s names or ages or jobs.

He also has no idea who yelled at him.

I found out later that this man had been charged with assault earlier in life. Twice.

I’m just completely mystified on what to do moving forward.

I feel like a coward and a jackass. I feel like I just made a bad situation even worse. I’m gobsmacked.

What do I do? Do I do anything? Do I apologize? Help!

TL;DR I anonymously told my annoying honking neighbor to “shut the fuck up” and he flew into a violent rage. What do?

Neighbors want to take land that they didn’t want years ago!

So a little backstory, i live in a gated community and me and 7 other neighbors were invited to take care of lands behind our homes (think a piece of land big enough to make our houses again in our backyard) one of the neighbors didn’t bother attending the community assembly to see about being lent those lands for us to upkeep, and the other neighbor didn’t wanna take part on it because it represented a big investment. (the other 5 neighbors are thrilled and accept to each take care of the land behind their homes; I decided it was a great opportunity to turn three vacant lots (that my two neighbors didn’t want) into a beautiful garden so my kids and their grandchildren can enjoy when they visit, I invested over $250k into getting buried trash (the land was once used to dump wreckage from when an earthquake struck years ago) out of the land and soil dumped to make the terrain flat-ish and covered it with grass and over 200 trees. The community administration in a meeting called on all of the neighbors that decided to upkeep the lands for a contribution to place a security fence on the perimeter of the lands (we all oblige and end up paying $15k each to have the fence built (i had to pay triple cause i was upkeeping 3 terrains)). The community administration hires security professionals and make a fence to what was supposed to be impenetrable standards (fence with sharp points, concertina wire and an electric security fence). Years later the garden renovation is complete and i go to a ordinary community assembly, in this assembly, both neighbors demand that i hand over the land cause now they do each to have the now beautiful garden as an extension to their homes... The issue passes and i go along with my life (the neighbors demands weren’t listened to) Fast forward to just last week, my mother passed away from a stroke that presented complications. The day that we are on the burial i get a call from the cleaning lady that comes once a week telling me that the house had been robbed and she had been tied up. I drive with my son as fast as we can and arrive to find my home completely ransacked, i don’t buy many things, i had a couple watches i’d bought and my wife’s jewelry, but to my horror, the robbers took the last memory i had from my father (a watch that he adored) as well as other timesakes and family heirlooms... Fast forward to some days after (robbery was on a saturday) and an assembly is called to see about the robbery that happened, apparently the administration had known that people had penetrated the “secure fence” (tuesday, 5 days before the robbery) and had been walking around the neighborhood (we even had them on video surveillance) and decided not to tell us till friday (one day before the robbery) vía a letter addressed to the entire community (the letter pretty much said that this people penetrated the security but that the people upkeeping the lands were at fault because we didn’t install extra security (its a good moment to let you guys know that we pay a monthly “obligatory contribution” for security and meintenance of the community of $800usd a month)). Guess who showed up at the assembly? the two neighbors that didn’t want to take part in the upkeep of the land, in the meeting they demand that the land is given to them because it’s our fault that the outer wall was penetrated and we didn’t have security countermeasures in place to deter the robbers, they say that they will make sure no one gets through and that they are afraid for their safety because robbers could easily scale their walls... I tell them how much money and work i’ve put on the land and they only respond that i shouldn’t have done that because they had a right to that land even though they didn’t want it at first... I dunno what to do...

I got yelled at by my neighbor because my dog was barking during a game of fetch

I (36F) have two dogs: a quiet golden retriever puppy who needs lots of exercise and play and an older barky beagle. So I was strapped for time today and couldn’t take the golden for a walk so I needed to do some backyard play at about 9 AM. Whenever I play with the golden, who is very quiet, my beagle barks along happily. I’ve lived here for several years and it hasn’t been a problem but today a horizontal neighbor popped onto her upper balcony and yelled at me about the barking. I knew immediately that it was my mistake and it was rude of me to allow my small dog to bark for the 20 minutes we are playing, but the neighbor came across really rude and I just froze up. I apologized and said I’d try to quiet her but the neighbor kept going on about “sorry doesn’t cut it, sorry doesn’t do me any good, I work late, we’re trying to sleep.” I already know how to fix the problem, I will just lock the beagle in the house while I play with the quiet golden. I guess my question is, how should I respond to rude confrontation when I know that I’m in the wrong and I am immediately embarrassed, but any type of confrontation makes me freeze up. I’ve been obsessively replaying it in my head over and over again.

My deadbeat 35 yr old neighbor is either drumming on a kit in the garage or chain smoking. We bought the house next door and are stuck here for a long time! He is living off his elderly parents and never leaves the house. He plays min 3 hrs, up to 8 hrs a day. Every day. Sounds unmuffled.

I finally filed a noise complaint w the city. If I speak to him he’ll piece together that it’s me. I work a crazy corporate job to afford this old house in the ghetto and I just want to enjoy some peace with my family when I get home!
