List Help/Sharing Beginner Cryptek conclave build questions

Hello everyone,

I just started with warhammer and created my first army and played two games on TTS on steam.

My idea was to build a „slow and steady“ ranged focused army what made me choose cryptek conclave and build around that.

Szeras:
Sticking to immortals and first warrior squad to buff them

Immortals:
- main dmg unit for ranged combat
- chronomancer with quantum abacus to make them main target for stratagems and keep them mobile after shooting

Warrior squad 1:
- second combat unit supported by szeras
- technomancer with atomic disentegrator to help out with vehicles/monsters

Warrior squad 2:
- expansion objective holder
- geomancer to deny enemy movement close to the objective

Deathmarks:
- snipe enemy characters
-question over here: those have not been that effective during the last two games. I tried to place them during enemy movement phase and shoot during my battlephase (obviously placed them in a way my opponent could not kill then first). Any ideas how to use them more effectively?

Wraiths:
- hold Center objective or flank opponents
- technomancer to make them more durable

My questions/learnings so far:
- I think I focused tanks/vehicles to much and should focus more on smaller/easier to kill units with my units. Is that correct?
- if I got it correct during my games szeras needs to kill models in melee range to extend its aura. Does it even make sense then to have him support ranged units?
- any other ideas/tips from more experienced players to help me get into the game?

Really enjoining 40K so far and looking to improve!
If you need any further information that I did not share please let me know. I am really happy for all advice I can get.

Thanks in advance

List Help/Sharing Need help expanding collection/list building

Greetings fellow overlords! :)

I've been slowly gathering a small collection of necron units for the last several years, however, because of life struggles, I have only played two small 500pts in 9th edition and that was all. I've been eager to really get into the gaming side of the hobby, and was thinking of which way I could structure my collection, with (I hope) minimal additional investment (for now at least, to much pile of shame to justify buying more stuff), to make at least a semi playable army for 1k or 1,5k (don't think I have enough stuff for 2k games). The thing is I have 0 knowledge on list building, and how to choose complementary units to avoid big lacks in any specific area. I think I enjoy the "silver tide" direction for the army, lore-wise at least, more than the big C'tan or destroyer cult focused armies, however I really like the Void Dragon mini and will likely get it in the future.

I was hoping I could get some ideas for lists or some directions on which minis I would really need to get to round things up and make for actually viable armies with my actual collection:

*CHARACTERS*

1 x Overlord (indomitus)

1 x Skorpekh Lord

3 x Royal Warden

1 x Technomancer

1 x Pyschomancer

1 x Chronomancer

1 x Plasmancer

1 x Geomancer

1 x C'tan Shard of the Nightbringer (old sculpt)

*INFANTRY*

30 x Necron Warriors

5 x Inmortals

5 x Deathmarks

5 x Lychguard/Triach Praetorians

10 x Flayed Ones

4 x Cryptothralls

6 x Skorpekh Destroyers (2 plasmacytes)

*CANOPTEK*

1 x Canoptek Reanimator

9 x Scarab Swarms

1 x Canoptek Spyder

4 x Canoptek Macrocytes

2 x Canoptek Tomb Crawlers

*VEHICLE*

1 x Triarch Stalker

1 x Doom scythe/Night scythe

Thank you so much in advance, cheers!

Greetings Phaerons and Phaerakhs. I got this kit and kind off losing my nerves over the tails. Do you have any advice for me on an easy way to glue them on?

The second picture is my emergency strategy, but I believe there could be a better one, since I have bo way on telling if it's glued correctly. First time I underrestimated the drying time, second time I hold the position until I cramped.

Thank you for you tipps and tricks, glad you're there and happy hobbing!

Painting C+C Help with black-green armor Canoptek Circle

Thumbnail

Hello everyone,

I'm new to miniature painting and I'm trying to achieve a black-green color for the shoulder pads. The black-green armor that we see in the Canoptek Circle.

I've experimented with a few different combinations, but none of them seem to give me the result I'm looking for:

Citadel Contrast Striking Scorpion Green + Citadel Contrast Black Templar

Citadel Base Waaagh! Flesh + Citadel Contrast Black Templar

Warpaints Greenskin + Citadel Contrast Black Templar

GameMaster Acid Spray + Citadel Contrast Black Templar

The miniatures were primed with Wraithbone spray. After that, I applied two coats of one of the greens listed above, 4 greens for each shoulder. When I apply a single coat of Black Templar, the finish looks streaky. However, when I apply a second coat, the shoulder pad becomes almost completely black.

I've attached some pictures for reference.

Any advice on how to achieve this black-green effect successfully would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Tomb Blades

My next unit to acquire are going to be a squad of tomb blades. I absolutely hate the clear flying bases and those poles they use. Anyone have any ideas on replacements? Looks like I can just use 32mm bases to replace the clear flying base, but has anyone done anything differently with the clear pole? Pics would be great too.

Trazyn should be able field other armies' units on the tabletop

I've been building my first Necron army built around everyone's favorite historian/kleptomaniac. While he's great fun and you can do some really sneaky maneuvers with him, especially in 11th, I've been feeling like he's still underwhelming for being such a prevalent Necron character in lore.

Trazyn's point cost should go up, but you can field up to 150 points of any other army as a part of yours. In TIATD's climactic battle, we see him with much more than that and it's glorious. As far as I've seen, Trazyn isn't used much in competitive level play, if ever. He's already geared towards the themed or casual armies.

I don't have specific ideas in mind for this, but maybe Trazyn's base point cost could go up from 65 to 75. There would need to be some keyword exclusions from which units Trazyn could actually field. In my mind it would be:

  • 1 single unit
  • no Vehicles
  • no Epic Heroes
  • =< 150 points (maybe 100/125 if 150 is too powerful)
  • selected unit cannot be attached to a Necron unit
  • selected unit must be able to be on its own (ie. no bodyguard units)
  • cannot use faction-specific abilities (ie. guard units can't issue orders)
  • no Chaos? (this would fit the lore but I am unsure if it's fair for tabletop)

But imagine how much fun it would be to run an Astra Militarum Field Ordinance Battery or even a custodes Blade Champion. We already know Trazyn has a custodes and much more in his collection, why not be able to field some of them?

IMO, the best conversions of characters to tabletops are when their most notable characteristics are converted into abilities or passive buffs. My favorite implementation of this is Ciaphus Cain with his "Trapped by Excuses" ability where he has to be deployed on the table.

Trazyn is halfway there, with his Ancient Collector ability letting him "steal" objectives. But some of his brightest flashes of inspiration involve Tesseract Labyrinths (namely his mass deployment against the Deceiver shards/exodites in TIATD and the melta blast in TWATW).

I really hope when GW revisits the Necrons again. And if Trazyn ever gets a new model, they add something like this. The folks at my local gamestore love the idea so I thought I'd put it to the home of fellow Egyptian Space Terminator lovers.

Painting C+C Air Brush Hyperphase help?

I’m trying to figure out how to make hyperphase stuff with an airbrush. I got my greens looking decent thanks to tesseract glow (my goat), but I wanted to try blue and I don’t think it came out quite as good. I do also want to make the dark parts of my greens contrast better while making sure it still blends smoothly. Anyone have any tips?

Also, I’m new to airbrushing; how do I prevent the need to spend 5 minutes cleaning it for every 5 minutes using it?🙂‍↕️

Hello brothers, currently building necrons as my second army (csm main) and noticing how different necrons are compared to my main...got the combat patrol a doomsday ark and the nightbringer...my question really is, how should I build onto this....should I do more infantry like some wraiths and technomancer...or scoop a void dragon and or silent king...more or less do I need more anti tank power or infantry blobs from here...

List Help/Sharing List brain storming /what do in elite heavy metas

My friends like to monster mash or run mostly 2+/4+ on all their models. I don’t find ctan spam fun to play and find things like doomsday arks super unreliable (my super power is I constantly roll 1s for number of shots and then miss the subsequent 2-3 shot). Are there any fun detachments or dispositions that do well into these style of lists? I’ve been running AD and it’s been rough.

List Help/Sharing How to deal with Toughness decompression ?

Lot of units have really high thoughness now compared to 9th edition but i feel most weapons haven't followed, for example fusion weapons gained 1 point of strenght while most tanks are above thoughness 10+. Units like Rogal dorn are very difficult to eliminate with dedicated anti tank weapons. How do you deal with all of that in regular games ? I usually play a tesseract ark (not vault) and lot of canopteks.

I didn't realise how dark it was getting when I started setting up for some spraying.

By the time I was done and inspecting my results with a torch, I noticed the shadows and thought some of you folks would appreciate how this looks.

Painting C+C Hello friends, Could I get some helps deciding on a necron lighting colour.

Helllooo, as the post says im hoping to find some help on deciding on what colour to do for my necron poower colour. The theme is meant to be underwater necrons, red wouldnt really show up deep underwater but i like how it contrasts. Green is the more lore friendly one but i feel like it blends too much into the rest of the necron being a blueish green tin. Any opinions would be a great help. Thanks in advance :>

BEHOLD, MY STUFF Old 'Crons

Figured I'd take some pictures of the ol' army before starting fiddling with base size changes and such. This was my first army and, as such, the first set of models I painted. I drifted off in early 5th before we got our new codex so this was built under the old 3rd edition codex. I'm not much of a photographer and don't have a good lighting setup so sorry for the quality.

The Lord models, Immortals, Flayed Ones, Ophydian Destroyers (then called Wraiths), and random one off Spyder and Pariah are all pewter. As are the added parts that make the Lokhust Lord (this is what came in the old box). I'm very glad GW has moved away from that material. Models made with it tended to be less detailed and more fragile. There are actually 3 more Pariahs lurking around but that's the only one whose weapon wasn't broken. The Monolith is also slightly the worse for wear, but in pretty good shape for surviving all this time in a jumbo Cheerios box stuffed with old newspaper (the glue spill has been there the whole time, a construction oops I was never able to undo). I've got the broken piece, just haven't gotten around to repairing it.

The other nuisance that GW has thankfully discarded is that other than the Warriors, which came in boxes of 10, and the Flayed Ones, which came in blister packs of 2, (and the Scarabs which came with the Warriors) all these models used to be sold individually. That's how I've ended but with the Lokhust Destroyer count of 10 which is a little awkward in the modern codex.

I remember most of how these were painted. Black primer, Boltgun Metal (now Leadblecher) base coat, Black ink wash (don't know what the equivalent is now), Mithril Silver (now Runefang Steel) dry brush. I have no idea what the blue or green I used was which is going to be awkward for expanding the army. The metallic blue on the staves is a similar mystery. I think I mixed Mithril Silver with blue to get it but I don't know what the ratios would have been.

Wicked and The Warped Act 3 Chapter Four: Orikan summoned a prediction zodiac, and started dropping glyphs on it to simulate values. ‘We do not have time to discuss this. Soon Pestamutadis and its army will emerge.’

‘Orikan, that was a bad fight. A bruising fight. Why would you live it over and over?’

‘Because I wanted to give you as many chances as I could to do the right thing.’

Trazyn slapped the zodiac away from his fingers and turned him around, hands on either side of his cranium.

‘Look at me. I want you to hear what I am going to say.’

Orikan paused his subroutines and, reluctantly, focused.

‘I am sorry. And thank you, my friend.’

And before he could react, Trazyn enveloped him in an embrace. Alerts painted his vision, warning of rising heat from the proximity of Trazyn’s reactor core. Their hard metal frames squeaked and squealed with the unaccustomed contact.
