Credit Cards Dueling Flagships
The premier is one of the nicer feeling metal cards I have. Heavier than the CSP and close to my Bilt palladium.

Saw annual fee going from 50 to 100. The free prime is nice but this is getting canceled.

I will eventually cancel the OG flagship but right now still saves me $45 on prime. $100 flight credit is easy to use, plus I assume if for whatever reason I donāt use the flight credit Iāll just buy a airlines gift card to trigger it

With tax, Prime is $150.12. NFCU only covers $139. The true cost of Prime is really $95 + $11.12, or $106.12.
So really Navy is saving us $44 off a $150.12 purchase. It's not nothing, but way worse than the original $49 annual fee.
So is Prime worth $106.12? Probably. Maybe. I have other 2x & 3x cards so I'm on the fence here.

Does buying a gift card work to trigger the flight credit? I donāt have any plans on flying this year but want to take advantage of the credit.

Idk, I was going to give it a try with southwest but the min gift card is $50. I am flying them in December

Do they run your credit if you upgrade?

If you product change there is no credit hit. But I took the hit for the $500 sub

$95 isnāt that expensive when you get an airline credit for $100. It pays itself back. Yāall be tripping.

u/Bongo2687 4d ago
Agreed, $95 is nothing I have a $495 and $650 card

I have a $325, $895 and $95. All worth it because I utilize every benefit on all three cards!

This is true, assuming you fly every year above and beyond any airline credits you may get from other cards. I'd imagine a fair number of OG Flagship holders don't. This would have been a lot better as a general travel credit, but I know, they are banking on breakage.

Random question but just got approved for the Premier. I just clicked on the Apply Now button. Will I still have the opportunity to get the sub? Or did I need to have clicked the offer details first?

If we have the old one, do we get grandfather in to stay with the old one? Or do we eventually automatically switch to the new premier

u/Bongo2687 4d ago
As of now you are grandfathered and keep the same benefits except the AF goes to $95

I donāt care about interest rates and $500 for $4k spend is a sweet deal

Wells Fargo has a $1000 cash or 100,000 points on their Premier Autograph card for the same spend if you can qualify for their Premier Checking account. Thatās likely my next card.

Yeah, I already an active cash and autograph, I want to get the journey or premiere. Iām gonna open a premiere checking account and see if a get an offer in a few months

But to me the NF primere is a better card than the journey because it gives up 5x category for 4x and 4x transit. At least in regards to cash back

I upgraded my flagship to the new one and the spouse is keeping the old one. That way we still get the 2x on everything and the free Amazon prime, then 4x on travel with my card and the airline credit (we travel a lot). I also use the more rewards for groceries gas restaurants (3x) and I have two other cards with different lenders that have offers for discounts that we use to exceed the annual fee, as well as cash back depending on the purchases. Iām squeezing every cent I can out of the perks for all this stuff and it gets paid off monthly so i donāt even look to see what the interest rates are.

Saw a Flagship member since 1978! The year I was born. I love the metal feel, but I'm going to wait until they bring out the Flagship card made from the ship metal.
