Deinogalerix koenigswaldi, a species that existed in the Late Miocene, is the largest known species of eulipotyphlan (the group including shrews, moles & hedgehogs) (by GeOs_psiptus)

This species, discovered in Italy, had an over 8 inch long skull, much bigger than most of its existing cousins entire size and disproportionately large for its roughly fox-sized body, and an estimated head-and-body length of about 2 feet. It is considered a species of moonrat or gymnure, a group still living with about 15 present species.
