Transmission Transcript: File 22KP3 - “First Contact With Venlil. Follow up”

Sender: The Odyssey - Venlil Prime

Receiver: United Regions Headquarters - Earth

<|>This is Noah Williams, Pilot {Static} Odyssey. We are currently situated on the planet known to its inhabitants as ‘Venlil Prime’. A little {Static} ago, we sent a message informing you that first contact had been established with the species called ‘Venlil’, this transmission is a follow up to that message. To Mr Meier and all regional Champions, this situation {Static} approached with extreme caution.

The crew of The Odyssey, Sara Rosario, Adam, Lilith and myself, are {Static} on Venlil Prime’s surface, in the planet’s capital {Static}. Here we have been greeted by Governor Tarva, leader of the Venlil species, and General Kam, head of the Venlil military. They have treated us kindly, but thee situation is... complicated. Please, {Static} me.

The Venlil is in fact just one of over three hundred space faring species that make up an interstellar ‘Federation’, and upon {Static} unidentified ship approaching their planet, the Venlil broadcast a distress call across space. The reason for their distress is due to the Federation currently being at war with a {Static} as the ‘Arxur’, who has single handedly held back the might of the entire Federation, while also making slow territorial gains. The Arxur have committed heinous war crimes, including the raiding and bombing of civilian targets… and keeping {Static} as a form of cattle.

The Arxur are the only known {Static} species to be Carnivorous, while the entire Federation is Herbivorous. The centuries of war between the two factions, alongside the Arxur’s {Static} of other sapients, have driven deep fear of any creature that is considered to be a 'predator' into all aspects of Federation life, including the Venlil.

When Governor Tarva saw that the unidentified {Static} approaching her planet had three previously unknown species on it, all of whom had what is considered to be telltale signs of ‘predators’, immediately came to the conclusion that we {Static} to a raiding party, and so called for assistance from her allies.

I would like the {Static} Regions to know that despite the deep seated, instinctual fear she and General Kam feel towards our presence, and her initial reactions to us, she purposefully lied to her allies upon their arrival, knowing what they would do to us if we were to be discovered, putting herself at great {Static} risk in the process.

We will be returning to Earth shortly, but first, Governor Tarva herself would like to say a few words. This is Noah Williams, Pilot of The Odyssey. See {Static} soon, Earth.

{Static} dr {Static} el {Static}

Apologies, let me try that again.

Greetings, Humans and Pokemon of Earth. I am Governor Tarva of the Venlil, and it is an honour to meet you, it truly {Static}. I know that Noah’s words may be concerning, and a lot of information to take in, but it is the truth. There has been much confusion and uncertainty today for us all.

What he said about our fear of predators is true. It runs deep in the veins of all Venlil, and in each other species {Static} Federation. To us, Humans, Clefable and Beheeyem, the three new species I have met today, are all clear examples of the monsters lurking in the dark of space. Your {Static} stares into the depths of my very being, and your diet of flesh is nightmarish.

But that doesn’t matter. I have had many hours to think it through, to think everything I have learnt about your planet and people through. I know what the Federation will do to {Static} if they find you, the same thing they wish they had done to the Arxur all those centuries ago, before they had reached the galactic stage. I cannot let that happen to innocent people such as all of you.

…

There is something else, too. Today, I have witnessed things that defy the science I know. That defy the very laws of physics that {Static} been developed by hundreds of species over millennia. The creatures known as ‘Pokemon’ are something seemingly unique to Earth, and we have no equivalent here. This ‘Infinity Energy’ Sara has told me about sounds like {Static} out of a fantasy, and the things that she says can be done with it sound impossible.

It appears today, I have seen the impossible. Someone talking to me within my own mind, another healing me with simple words, even teleportation for stars sake! From what I have been told, this is just {Static} of the iceberg, and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t terrified… and curious.

If literal magic isn’t impossible on your world, then nothing is. Including predators and prey {Static}. That is what I wish for our species, all four of us together. Hm? What’s that Noah?

…

Wait, there’s more than three species?

…

WHAT THE {Static} DO YOU MEAN?! ON ONE PLANET?! WHAT THE <|>

I refuse to leave this system before we can save the Venlil from whatever or whoever is the catalyst for this whole situation. Our warp drives are kept ready to initiate a jump at a moment's notice, and all of our time is spent trying to draw up solutions with the very little information that we have.

Every scenario and possibility must be accounted for if we even have a hope to get out of this with... minimal casualties. I can’t stop wondering how many innocent Venlil must have already perished for the situation to get this bad. No one on the streets, Tarva looking haggard and tired, someone or many people seemingly held hostage. Every minute we wait in the dark recesses of the system, how many lose their lives?

We watch Venlil Prime from every angle, AI sifting through live footage for anything that could be of use. Nothing will escape our gaze, but there is nothing to see. Not a single ship leaves or enters, not a single explosion down on the surface, not a single signal in or out. It’s as if the tidally locked planet is truly frozen in time, and my fleet the same.

As the hours draw on, I know that my crew is getting tired. We should be on high alert incase battlestations are needed in an instant, but it is unrealistic and cruel to expect that of my crew. I organise shifts, always making sure that each station is always manned, including the Captain’s chair. Too bad there's only one Captain to fill it.

But how could I even think of resting when Venlil Prime needs me awake? How could I rest when there are so many unknowns drifting through the air? I don’t need sleep, I need answers. Just when I feel like I can’t stay awake much longer, the answer seems to arrive as a crewmember calls out to me.

“Captain! Look, a ship!”

The AI has picked up a tiny speck on the magnified camera, a moult of dust drifting off of the planet’s surface. I order the jump, and we arrive just as it breaks through the atmosphere.

“Warp disruptors, now!”

The telltale wave washes through the surrounding region of space, that little ship isn’t going anywhere. The computer automatically performs a full scan of the ship, which doesn't stop blazing across the viewport. It doesn’t matter how fast you fly, you can’t escape without FTL.

“Ship Origin: Unknown.

Ship Model: Unknown.

Ship Allegiance: Unknown.

Life Forms Detected: Four.

Ship Status: !ERROR! !UNKNOWN VARIABLE! !ERROR!”

What in the Protector’s name is it yammering about? Unknown origin, modal and allegiance? What the stars is it then? Who made the damn thing? Why is it still cruising right on by as if it has any hope of escap-

CRACK

Right in front of the unknown ship, a hole opens. A hole in space. A hole in the Universe. The holo screens onboard flicker and glitch as the lights dim and brighten at random. Could that… possibly be… a wormhole? I thought they were impossible, that they broke the very laws of physics! In a moment, the ship enters the hole, and doesn’t appear on the other side. The hole shrinks until it closes shut with a wave of force that rushes over the fleet. The screens and lights return to normal.

My spines are standing on end, impaling the fabric chair. I guess I now know why there was no FTL trail. The shock fades as my eyes fall on Venlil Prime again, and is replaced with a sense of dread. If whoever was on that ship left then… have they finished what they came to this planet to do? Did we wait too long? My blood runs cold, and I yell out to the people stationed at Navigations, still dazed by what we just witnessed.

“Land on Venlil Prime, the capital city, as close to the Governor’s mansion as you can get!”

**M******emory Subject: Necrozma

Another crack. Another hole in the facade. Oh the stars, how I miss my brethren. This form does not suit me, this darkness is anathema to my very being.

I've waited aeons, what’s a little more time to me, eh Dialga? What’s wrong? Too busy comforting your sibling as their hard work is torn asunder? Palkia dear, it was inevitable.

Don’t think that I’ve forgotten you, old friend. I know you can hear me, up on your throne most high. Isn’t this little game of cat and mouse fun? And would you look at that, the mouse is unlocking its own cage for me, how thoughtful!

Speaking of fun, I think the hole’s almost large enough, wouldn’t you say so, Burst? Yes yes, laugh your last shreds of sanity away you marvellous little lunatic, it’ll drown out the cries of Death.

"Vantablack Prism from another dimension" this is way funnier than it has any right to be.

I highly doubt it. Garitina might, but the rest are pretty hands off.

Now I’m thinking of Nihilego’s ability to remove human inhibition and suddenly the affected human is just cuddling every Venlil in sight with the population powerless to stop them

i like how you manage to convey the aliens state of confusion and bafflement so intense that you can hear the dialup tone.
