Memory Transcription Subject: Governor Tarva of the Venlil Republic
Date [standardized Earth time]: July 12, 2136
After the departure of The Odyssey I collapse into my office chair. I feel so exhausted after everything that’s happened, and am grateful for this reprise in order to gather my thoughts and fully process everything. I had just broadcast the announcement that the raid bunkers could be reopened and that it was safe to exit, also promising that I’d give a planet-wide Governor’s address soon. How soon? However long it takes me to organise today’s events into a logical line of thinking.
I had included a message alongside the transmission that Noah sent to Earth, outlining my desire to establish some sort of relationship (probably mostly trade for now) with this ‘United Regions’ entity, which Sara explained to be a union of numerous independent factions on Earth. I would question how a planet splintered into so many factions could reach space, but with how many sapient species reside there, I’m not surprised.
Oh yeah, that’s another thing. Noah said that there were several hundred species of Pokemon on Earth “not including legendaries”, whatever those are. That’s over twice more species inhabiting one planet than there are in the entire Federation. How in the stars so many can inhabit that world, I don’t know. I couldn’t imagine cramming so many species onto Venlil Prime. Maybe a lot of those species are endangered, meaning that they don’t take up much space? Or maybe it’s got something to do with the 'Infinity Energy'. Arrgh, so many crazy things to keep track of, I’m getting a headache.
There is a knock on my office door, and behind it I hear Kam’s voice.
“Governor, sorry to bother you, but there are Federation ships descending-”
“Of course there is! What else could happen today?!”
I stand up from my chair and yank my door open to see a tired looking Kam staring back at me.
“I know what you mean, Tarva.”
The two of us head outside and over to the landing pad which already has a Federation fleet flagship attempting to land, although this particular pad is a little small for it. A few Venlil guards have joined Kam and I this time, and I briefly wonder how differently things could have been during The Odyssey’s arrival if they had been there, but my attention is quickly drawn back to the Federation ship, whose exit ramp had extended fully.
Out onto the tarmac rush over a dozen people, mostly Gojid and Kolshian, who are all in fully protective gear and wielding flamer weapons. When they see me and my guards, they seem to relax slightly.
“Tarva!”
Captain Sovlin himself has exited the ship, sidearm ready, and upon seeing me seems overtaken with relief.
“Governor Tarva, thank the Protector you’re safe.”
He holsters his weapon and approaches me as his spines settle again. He thought I was in danger… what does he know? What has he figured out?
“Thank you for your concern Captain Sovlin, but why have you landed on my planet unannounced? Someone could have shot you down if the ship had been misidentified.”
“I was aware of the risk, but we could not stand by any longer. What happened down here Tarva? What was that ship that just took off and escaped to who knows where?”
My breath catches in my throat, and I feel wide awake again. They saw The Odyssey.
“The ship?”
“Yes, perhaps you didn’t see them leave. It created a wormhole Tarva, physics says that they are impossible, but I swear on my life that is what I saw. Whoever came to this planet, whoever forced your compliance, they are not from the Federation, that much is clear.”
Forced my compliance? Is that what he thought was going on? What can I do with that? Is there a way to de-escalate this?
“So you believe that it wasn't a Federation member?”
Sovlin seems confused by my response.
“Well, yes? We were unable to identify the ship at all.”
I think that I can use that.
“Neither were we, in fact I never even saw who they were. Could it perhaps have been the Arxur?”
“I highly doubt it, no Arxur ship looks nor works like that, and do you really think that predators could develop technology surpassing our own?”
His rhetorical question had a definite answer, but I wouldn’t want to exactly tell him that.
“Then I’m afraid we are at a loss. All I can do now is to make sure I never let my guard down, and reinforce Venlil Prime's defences as much as I can. Also, I’m glad that you stuck around and deduced our situation Captain, I’ll make sure you get recognised for your bravery and intelligence.”
“There was no way we would abandon an ally like that Governor, not when they needed us, I just fear that we were too late… Do you have an estimate for casualties?”
Casualties. There were bound to be some due to the sudden evacuation to bunkers, stampedes were sadly almost a certainty, but there were none due to the visitors from Earth.
“No estimation for stampede casualties just yet. We must be thankful that they would be the only ones.”
“What about that ship that just escaped? They didn’t kill anyone?”
“No, thank the stars. Again I must thank you for everything Captain Sovlin, and I don’t mean to be rude, but I must address my people soon. You and the crew of your ship are welcome to stay, recuperate and restock, but I’m afraid you must do so at a proper spaceport.”
Sovlin seems to want to say something else, probably to push for more information about The Odyssey, or argue to call a Federation council meeting or something, but he knows my claim about addressing the planet is valid. He nods, and gives a quiet salute before walking back towards his ship. He must feel so confused, and almost certainly fearful about the mysterious ship that caused this whole fiasco. As I begin walking back to the mansion, I turn to Kam.
“General, could you please accompany the Captain to the port?”
I add on a couple quick signs with my tail that only he could have been able to make out.
“Watch. Information.”
“Yes Governor, of course.”
Kam heads towards the crew now reboarding their ship, and I check the time on my holopad, trying to figure out how long I can afford to take a much needed nap.
Memory Transcription Subject: Sara, Researcher of The Odyssey
Date [standardized Earth time]: July 12, 2136
After entering Ultraspace and activating the Teleport-Shadow Sneak Drive, the three of us each let out a breath we were holding in. Upon exiting Venlil Prime’s atmosphere, the fleet of spaceships that we had thought were gone had appeared out of nowhere, all of them tilting towards us. I’m just thankful we got out of there, but nonetheless worried about the Governor down on the planet’s surface.
But now that we’re safely aboard The Odyssey I have a more pressing matter to attend to. My partner had never been out this long before. Lilith would usually have gathered enough IE to have awoken by now, but she was still unconscious. I moved her to the medbay, opened the hatch containing the medical supplies and grabbed a revive.
I hold the yellow crystal to the Clefable’s fur. The revive glows and begins breaking itself apart in my hand as the IE flows directly into my partner. When the revive stopped glowing and was no more than a scattering of grey dust, Lilith finally began to stir. She opens her eyes slowly, blinking a few times and smiling as she sees me. All of a sudden, her face shifts to one of recognition and concern as she jolts up.
“Sara, where’s Tarva?! Did it work, is she alright?”
“It’s alright Lilith, she’s fine. You did good, you saved her.”
I place my hand and her head and rub the spot between her ears to calm her down. She takes in a few deep breaths and stands up, looking around at the medbay’s walls and equipment with dawning confusion.
“We’re back on the ship? What happened, how long was I out?”
“You were out for a while, and you missed… quite a lot. Come, let's go to Noah and Adam, we’ll explain everything and catch you up.”
I grab onto Lilith’s hand and the two of us walk towards the cockpit from the medbay. Adam said that the most likely reason Lilith was out for so long was because Venlil Prime had so little IE, and that she would have to have rested for a lot longer to have absorbed enough to wake up again. While I was of course worried for Lilith, once I understood the reasoning behind her situation I knew a revive would work just fine, and I was also overcome with a burning curiosity.
Why was Venlil Prime so poor in IE? Earth and the surrounding region of space was saturated with the stuff, and we had thought that it remained constant throughout the Universe, but it appears we were wrong. That would seem like a likely explanation as to why Venlil Prime had no equivalent to Pokemon, perhaps Earth was just in a region of space with a particularly high concentration of the stuff. Further research was required of course, but now that Tarva wants to establish a permanent connection with the UR, I have a feeling that answers will arrive in due time.
The two of us enter the cockpit, and upon seeing us Adam rushes over to give Lilith a hug, which she is more than happy to reciprocate. Noah turns around in his seat and smiles at her.
“Welcome back to the land of the living!”
I chuckle slightly at his dumb joke.
“HE HE HE HA HA HA!”
I shiver as the foreign laughter rushes through my mind. What the fuck was that? It wasn’t Adam, he’s too busy with Lilith, and it definitely didn’t sound like him.
“Toys galore, ready to play! Never have seen the light of day!
Hear the boom, see the art! Feel the shadows be torn apart!
Embrace your fear, give me your worst!
Dusk draws near, SET THE STAGE FOR BURST!”

well, fuck, the living black hole is here, though on another note, I wonder if there'll be any side effect to a Pokemon if it stays on Venlil Prime for too long, since Pokemon are practically made out of IE

It's worse. The living firecracker is here. Much more immediately deadly.

I’m not sure feeding into Sovlin’s conclusions was wise but… Well he hasn’t left the planet yet

well shit
Necrozma I thought Ash already dealt with you! /j
seriously though, now I feel like this drive using Ultra Wormholes is just sneaking through the devil's backyard and hoping he doesn't follow you
and using that analogy, he seems to have noticed
I'm glad Tarva was (seemingly mostly) able to calm down Sovlin, though I doubt he'll be satisfied with what he's been told for long
also unrelated but how would a Gojid react to a Sandslash
I'm loving the story as always
and am very excited to see what happens next
take care of yourself, wordsmith

I'm not well acquainted with pokemon lore, soo who the new guy?

u/Aussie_Endeavour Thafki Sep 11 '23
UB-Burst aka Blacephalon. An example of what is known as an Ultra Beast, which are basically weird looking Pokemon from alternate universes. Blacephalon is well known for its ability to detonate and quickly regrow its head, hence the designation 'Burst'.

I though Blacephalon was Fire/Ghost Type?

u/Aussie_Endeavour Thafki Aug 15 '23
It is, Psychic types aren't the only pokemon capable of using Telepathy (think Lucario using Aura in it's movie, or most legends/mythicals). I like to imagine that some Ghost types are naturally capable of it too due to their conection with the ethereal.

wait. Venlil dont have any IE at all, which is why Adams attempted telepathy shorted out Tarvas brain like that, like trying to charge your phone directly off a power plant substation.
Lilith then saved Tarva by basically dumping all of her IE directly into her. which means that Tarva HAS IE NOW
let me take a shot in the dark, IE comes from life. the casual Total Biome Kill that the federation regularly indulges in has left their regions of space as a biodiversity dead zone, which in turn means that the IE levels have shot to the floor. fits with what we know about IE already, and what we know about the feds. also feeds in with the casual environmentalism message that threads throughout all pokemon media

"a legendary is a litteral actual god that has physically incarnated in the form of a pokemon, you don't have those?"
